Cort is a great guitarist who has been taking drum lessons from me over the years - so he can teach you how to play the guitar and drums. Cort is a great drum student who has learned many styles of drumming from me. He's kind and gentle and very relaxed, which will put your mind at ease so you're not nervous. That's what I do with my students. So please check out Cort when you need lessons.

"Cort is reliable and gives you your money's worth."
"I took bi-monthly guitar lessons from Cort for nearly 3 years. Cort is enthusiastic about music and is very knowledgeable. Though originally a drummer, he is well versed in the guitar as a teacher and player. He pays close attention to detail and really cares about his students. He has an easy going demeanor and is open to your input about what you are most interested in learning. He also has a good idea of what will help you be a complete and well-rounded player. Cort is reliable and gives you your money's worth."
Learn drum technique for all styles. Rock beats and fills, Jazz drumming and more.
I have studied, performed and taught music for over 30 years. Accordion was my first instrument at age 7 which was a great introduction to the keyboard, melody and harmony. That was followed by guitar and other stringed instruments (Banjo, Ukulele) as well as drums. I studied with great teachers in the past as well as at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. I have also performed at the Cape Cod Jazz Festival, The Bakersfield Jazz Festival and numerous club dates and private functions throughout New York, New England and California.
*** Lesson Details *** Students will experience an
"original" lesson based on how they learn. Some students benefit most from a visual standpoint reading music or tab while others learn best by an auditory or hearing approach. We will explore what works best for you. Whether its blues, rock jazz or other styles, we will find the best avenue to progress toward your goals. At the same time I believe it should always be a fun thing to do!
*** Studio Equipment *** Guitars - Drums - Amplifiers - Accordion - Ukes and other assorted instruments
*** Specialties *** Depending on student interest, I teach numerous styles (Rock, Blues Jazz improvisation) by reading music or by ear. Some students are more visual while others are auditory learners. Whichever is best for the student.

Richard is a wonderful teacher. Very patient and knowledgeable

Professional and patient with kids!
Mr. Richard, as we call him, has been fantastic with my 7 year old son. His early recommendations maximized my son's guitar interaction and the visible (audible?) progress being made actively encourages practice at home.
Mr. Richard is able to give simplified homework that my son can understand. As opposed to "practice for 20 minutes per day", Mr. Richard was able to identify what works with my son's personality and established practice criteria that was much more effective.

I learned a lot in just a few lessons. I enjoy taking lessons from Richard. He is professional, knowledgable & on time.
Hi, my name is Pierre. I have enjoyed the music business for more than 30 years. My music education includes studies at the Swiss Jazz School in Switzerland and the Berklee College of Music in Boston.
I have been a music coach in Switzerland, in Los Angeles, in Long Beach, and since 2009 in the Mission Viejo area. During the 2009 / 2010 school year I was a music coach for the Saddleback Valley Unified School District (SVUSD) in South Orange County. I have also been a member of numerous groups, including Original bands, Top40, Tribute, Recording and Perfo
rming bands. Please do not hesitate to ask for references!
I teach students age 9 and up.
*** Lesson Details *** Here is some information on what you can expect if you decide to take lessons with me:
You will start learning songs and play along with them within 3-5 lessons. After 3 months you will have knowledge of the basics. At the 6 month mark you will start to get comfortable with your instrument and after a year you will have built a solid foundation on which you can expand into any musical direction of your choice.
I teach beginner to advanced depending on the instrument, and ages 9 and up are welcome! My customized lessons are based on the student's abilities. Lessons can be held at your home in the vicinity of Mission Viejo. Learn songs and music theory, melodies, harmonizing, rhythm, syncopation, solfege, songwriting, arrangement, reading and writing music notation. I can also help you with singing and recording your songs. If you wish, I can also teach your lessons in German or French.
Music styles: Rock, Pop, Folk, Latin, Jazz, Swing, Reggae, Funk, and much more.
Teaching style: I like to use humor to make the learning experience enjoyable. I adjust to the student's learning speed. My philosophy when it comes to teaching and music: Everyone can learn an instrument and enjoy that knowledge for the rest of their life!
Guitar (for example): Always work with books. Teach simple chords, rhythms and songs at first. Then move to more difficult chords and songs, and TAB reading. Then I keep increasing the level of difficulty as the student progresses. Then start teaching sight reading with standard music notation. When practicing songs, we play along to music. Similar teaching style for other instruments.

I really like Pierre. He is a very patient teacher. Recommend!
Paul C. February 12, 2014
I'm a new student.
I recently started taking piano lessons for the first time at the age of 65. Pierre has been very encouraging and patient. He has also been very professional, and has even been flexible when my schedule has conflicted with our lessons, allowing me to reschedule when necessary. I am enjoying this very much, and that has much to do with Pierre.

Pierre is by far the best music teacher I've come across. I used several other teachers before Pierre, and none of them were able to take me to the level Pierre has. He's very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and patient, but best of all, he's a lot of fun. He has the perfect blend of making the lessons challenging and informative, and at the same time enjoyable. His love for music is infectious, and my appreciation for music has grown tremendously since working with him. I can't recommend him enough!
I've been teaching contemporary drum set in Orange County for over a decade, and many of my students have gone on to not only play and read notated drum set music with ease, but have continued their studies at arts high-schools and music colleges, with several of them continuing on to the professional world. I use an award winning curriculum used at many music academies and conservatories, and have received accolades for my ability to retain many students for many years. Within the first few lessons, a new student will be able to understand the basics of rhythm and snare drum notation, play a plethora of relatable and cool sounding grooves, and build a foundation that will serve the student for a life time.
Hi! My name is Michael and I am excited at the prospect of teaching you or your child...
I absolutely love to teach, but not just because of my love for the drums or my life-long appreciation of music, but because of my enjoyment of people and the learning process itself. I feel that this is important to mention, because if I didn't enjoy what I did and take pride in working with people, then my teaching skills, curriculum, and experience would mean nothing. As anybody who has played a musical instrument can attest to, learning something new is difficult, and having a patient teacher who
enjoys working with people is mandatory.
Throughout my life, I have had the opportunity to study with some amazing teachers, including Carmine Appice (author of “Realistic Rock” and drummer for Rod Stewart, Vanilla Fudge, Cactus and Jeff Beck), Jason Lingle (Berklee School Of Music), Keith Harris (drummer for The Black Eyed Peas) and Lee Nichols, to name a few. My experiences with these teachers has led to a proficiency in rock, jazz and Latin, as well as the ability to convey these concepts in a manner that promotes patience, personal challenge, and constant progress.
Besides teaching private lessons at many local facilities, I have had the opportunity to teach group classes at dozens of elementary and middle schools, including schools in the Westminster, Ocean View and Huntington Beach school districts. I have also aided many students into attending the arts high-school/college of their choice by working with them to properly read and perform all audition material.
Whether you are a brand-new beginner or a seasoned student of the instrument, I am confident that I can take your playing to the next level. Oh yeah, we will also have a great time. Maybe you don’t know yet, but playing the drums is FUN. Give me a call and I will prove it to you.
*** Lesson Details *** I teach using the Freddie Gruber method, which promotes a natural grip of stick and the idea that we should allow the stick to “do what it wants to do” by using natural and fluid motions. This is an incredibly effective style of play and is used by drummers such as Neil Peart, Dave Weckl and Steve Smith.
I teach with an emphasis both on rudiments and hand technique, as well as drum-set exercises and genre study. I encourage practice to be done on a rubber practice pad as well as on the drum-set, and for brand-new beginners, I often recommend that the practice pad be used exclusively for the first several weeks or months to allow for a great understanding of basic grips and hand techniques. This is especially true when the new beginner doesn't yet own a drum-set. I am often asked, “does my child need a drum-set to take lessons?” The answer is always a resounding “not at all!” A pair of sticks and a practice pad will do the trick, and will also allow you, as the parent, to see your child’s level of involvement.
Within the first 3 to 6 months of lessons, my students can expect to:
- Properly play and understand a handful of rudiments, including the single and double stroke rolls, the paradiddle family, as well as several flam and drag rudiments. - Play and begin properly reading many different drum-beats and rhythms, and connect these beats using fills that are fun and sound cool. - Begin learning songs of the their choice, from Metallica to Miles Davis.
I am also inspired by many different educational sources, including the textbooks:
- Stick Control by George Lawrence Stone - Rockin’ Bass Drum by Charles Perry and John Lombardo - Realistic Rock by Carmine Appice - The Art Of Bop Drumming by John Riley - The Drummer’s Bible by Mick Berry and Jason Gianni - Haskell Harr’s Drum Method
…as well as many other awesome texts that provide both classic and contemporary concepts that are challenging, and most importantly, sound really cool.
I teach out of an awesome private studio that features 2 drum-sets (the student never needs to get off the drum-set), recording equipment (lessons are often recorded and cited later) and a great headphone sound system (for effectively learning and playing along with songs.) Simply put, I believe my studio is the most fun and efficient place to study the drums in Orange County.
Whether you are a drum-line student who needs help playing a piece, a rock drummer who wishes to learn the basics of jazz (or vice versa), or a brand-new beginner who wants to see what this whole drumming thing is all about (spoiler: it’s awesome), I have the patience, the passion and the skills to help you get the most out of this wonderful instrument. Let’s play the drums!

*** Specialties *** Years of teaching group classes to elementary and middle school students has given me lots of experience with a multitude of learning styles. My specialty lies in not only conveying lessons and concepts in an easy to understand manner, but doing so in a fun way that encourages progress. Simply put, you will want to practice, simply to see exercises and grooves evolve.
While I am most proficient in rock music and have played in many rock bands, I am also very proficient in formal snare playing (marching/classical) as well as standards in jazz and Latin.

Mike is one of the best drum instructors out there. I've been taking lessons with him from middle school, and he has helped me succeed to become the jazz drummer and drum captain at Marina High School. Mike understands several different styles: rock, jazz, Latin, metal, and more. In addition, he teaches students the proper technique, rudiments and how to read sheet music. Most importantly, Mike stands out from other instructors because he spends time trying to understand his students' interests and incorporates them into his lessons. He is very outgoing and energetic, so his lessons are always fun and educational. Overall, I highly recommend him because he challenges and inspires his students to become better drummers.
Ha B. June 9, 2015
If you have been looking for a great drum teacher, Michael is your last stop! He has the ability to communicate with the students and parents and make drumming fun. His students response to him very well and enjoy going to weekly lesson.
My son started with Michael when he entered 6th grade and is now a Junior playing for Marina HS Marching Band, Drum line, Symphonic Band, and Jazz Band.
If you have the time and sit in a lesson with your children, you will soon realize that your money is well spent...not a wasted minute in that 1/2 hour lesson.

As a piano teacher, I am amazed at the progress my 16 y.o. son has made in one year of lessons with Mike. Mike definitely has a talent for reaching his students in fun and creative ways, and does a great job at teaching to each student as an individual. I've seen him interact with other students, and you can just tell he loves what he does and sincerely cares about his students. My husband has also sat in on a lesson and saw how Mike has a gift as a drummer as well as a teacher. We look forward to the next level he will take our son as a drummer and musician.
I highly recommend him as a teacher to any age student. His curriculum is solid and he keeps it fun and engaging. You won't be disappointed!
I have been teaching drum lessons for 7 years and love sharing my passion with everyone! I grew up playing Rock n' Roll on the drums, and I also studied Jazz drums at UCLA and graduated with a degree in Jazz Studies in 2014. I am comfortable teaching both styles, and like to use all kinds of rhythms from all over the world as well.
I have a rehearsal studio with a full drum kit to work with, but I am also willing to come to you to work with your kit! All levels of experience are welcome.
My name is Oliver, and I am a professional musician from Southern California. I have played the drums since age 4. I have also played guitar for over 10 years, and am comfortable teaching both instruments. I also like to write and record music, and like to work with others and collaborate on musical projects as well as teaching others how to do the same. While it may be cliché to say that music is my life, in this case it is true! I love everything to do with music and am constantly involved with it every day. I recently graduated from UCLA with a degree in Ethnomusicology/Jazz Studies with an
emphasis on Drum Performance, having studied with Clayton Cameron and Jason Harnell. I am currently living as a musician based in Los Angeles.
I love teaching, and have been doing it since 2008. I have a rehearsal studio with a full drum kit and other musical equipment that I will be available to teach from, but I am also willing to come to you to work with your own equipment!
Please feel free to view/listen to my videos, and contact me with any questions. I look forward to hearing from you!

I've been Brian's student for 5 years, and I think that I wouldn't have been able to stay into my lessons if not for having him as my te
acher! Brian is a very capable teacher, and knows how to expand the drumming skills of his students both technically and creatively. His lessons are fun, challenging, and well worth the investment. Brian encouraged me to take my lessons outside of the classroom, and I was able to be in a band with the skills I learned from him; I've been lucky to have unique and exciting experiences, and there's so much to take away from his lessons! Brian teaches rudimentary skills, reading music and playing beats, and drumming along to your favorite music to improve your skills! I highly recommend lessons with Brian for drummers of any level."

I started taking lessons from Rob about 2003. I have found him to be a wealth of knowledge and inspiration. Believe it or not, not

"Jacob is teaching for his first time, but he knows how to guide his student as he had been a student of many different instructors. Jacob teaches the basi
cs, the rudiments, and postures. I have taken drum lessons from different instructors, so I was confident that I was doing the right thing. However, Jacob helped me figure out bad habits that I've never doubted. Jacob not only understands the pros/cons of different drumming styles, but he also knows how to transition smoothly from one to another. He guides you through how improve your capabilities, because he has been through the same steps that you are about to go into. I am having a very pleasant time learning from Jacob."
