Emmy is a brilliant teacher. Her approach towards teaching is very light handed and caring. She makes suggestions that not only solve an individual trouble spot or problem, but can be applied across multiple angles of singing. Her expertise in vocal training is abundantly evident.

I genuinely look forward to each lesson, eager to hear her feedback and input on the various pieces we are working on. I would highly recommend her to anyone seeking a great vocal instructor.

Very lovely person to work with and willing to work with different music styles. Lessons are fairly structured and Emmy offers good advice on improving voice control and breathing.

Professional, Effective, and Challenging Lessons

Wendy is probably the most professional and talented voice teacher I have worked with in my time singing. She was able to quickly diagnose and help me begin to address difficulties I was having, but was also very proactive in helping me find repetoire that I enjoyed and that meshed well with my voice and my musical interests. She is extremely knowledgeable about the mechanics of singing, as well as the interpretation of song, and really challenged me to think through my singing in a way I hadn't before. Thanks!

I've been singing in choirs for over 6 years and was looking for a way to get into singing in college, and I found Serena by a lucky chance and have seen her weekly since January - not only have my vocal skills and techniques improved considerably since then, but I've become a lot more confident in singing other genres.

Serena is a fantastic teacher and is very flexible with availability - she always tries to make the lessons work on your time, and as a full-time student juggling two jobs, that was exactly what I needed. Every lesson is great - it's a healthy mixture of singing, genuine conversation, and discussion of techniques and ways to become better at something I genuinely enjoy.

I would definitely recommend her to beginners and returning singers alike - she is extremely passionate about what she does, and it really pays off when you can confidently sing a brand new piece after having worked on it for just a few lessons!

A patient and skilled instructor

I was so nervous about taking up piano again. My experience as a child had been less than stellar. Serena was exactly the instructor I had hoped for - she quickly assessed my ability and was able to adjust her teaching style/lesson accordingly. I was a bit nervous at first, but her patience helped me relax and enjoy the lesson.
Natalie S. Chicago, IL

About Natalie

Hi there! Thank you for taking the time to check out my teaching profile! A bit about me: I am a working Chicago actress originally from Indianapolis, IN. I graduated from Ball State University with a B.A. in Acting. For three years I lived in Los Angeles pursuing opportunities in film and television. I am a member of SAG/AFTRA and with the help of my agents and manager, I worked on many t.v. shows including Numbers, Commander and Chief and McBride (starring John Larroquette). After realizing how much I missed being on stage, I moved to New York City. I spent two years performing off Broadway before finally landing in Chicago to attend graduate school. This past spring, I earned my M.F.A. in Acting from the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University. Currently, I am a

The warmest teacher around

Natalie helped me with monologues for audition season this year and it's made all the difference! I feel more confident in the product I'm putting out there and more comfortable in the moment of the audition. She has a unique ability to be both creatively nurturing and extremely effective. She'll always be my go to acting coach!

Very helpful

I needed help with projecting and emoting with my voice for a reality TV shoot. Natalie was very helpful in teaching techniques to connect my breath and voice, relax and eliminate tension, and thoroughly warm up. These were very helpful. I went from being anxious on camera to having fun and looking forward to more. Highly recommended!

Supportive and dynamic acting coach!

Natalie coached me on my monologue for a grad school audition, and she was wonderfully responsive. She cultivates a teaching environment of comfort and productivity right from the start with a full vocal and physical warm-up. When I began working with my prepared piece, I felt relaxed and supported. Natalie's suggestions were growth-oriented and ensured my performance communicated a meaningful journey. Her follow-up emails after each session built upon the work done in studio with reminders and actionable tactics.

I have only had a few lessons with Benjamin so far, but I'm happy to say that each one was fun and educational. In past vocal trainings I focused on my chest voice, but Benjamin is helping me to discover and control my head voice in ways that I didn't think I could. At first I was worried I wouldn't find a teacher who could help me with college audition preparation, but sure enough, Benjamin went through the process and had plenty of great tips that I can use this coming year.
Thanks Benjamin! :)

I'm a 31 year old singer in a Indie Rock band called Readen Roark. I have had little to no training prior to practicing with Benjamin. I was looking for someone to help me find my voice and help me figure out how to actually sing. After many years of trying it on my own and listening to vocal dvds, I bit the bulllet and swallowed a little bit of my pride and found Benjamin through takelessons.com. I immediately found results as far as realizing how I WAS singing isn't suppose to be how I AM to sing. When you sing, the feeling should be somewhat easy. Ben is helping me find that spot and easiness. I am eager to see my improvement as time moves on. Not to mention Ben makes the lesson enjoyable and easy going. It is something I look forward to and hope to continue for a long time to come. I am even tempted to bring him some of my band embers and work with the band as a whole. When the next album is ready for vocals, I will definitely try to have him there. Highly recommended.
