My daughter started taking lessons with Athena when she was 7. Within weeks she already was playing simple songs & loved practicing etc. Now 2 years later she has shown incredible improvements. Highly recommend Athena.

My first vocal teacher and the best!
Ms. Rachel was an amazing vocal teacher! We would always start off with simple and fun warm-ups, breathing techniques, and would practice singing songs from musicals. My first couple lessons she taught me how to sing I Feel Pretty from West Side Story and we both had so much fun with it! After a little while we learned Cups from Pitch Perfect and then we got into the Vaccai book and I learned a couple songs from there. Overall Ms. Rachel was the best! She even offered to Skype a lesson with me since she moved. She cared about me and always helped me improve my voice in every way she could. I love her!
I completed my Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance with a certificate in Music in Education from the New England Conservatory of music and completed a Master of Music in Opera Performance from the University of Maryland Opera Studio. I have performed in places such as the historic Jordan Hall, Avery Fischer Hall, Carnegie Hall, The Cornerstone Arts Center, the Academy of Music in Philadelphia, the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center and the National Gallery of Art. I serve on the music teaching staff of both Highbridge Voices and the National Children's chorus in add
ition to maintaining an active private teaching studio and a busy international performing schedule.

Monica is an outstanding voice teacher. She customized each lesson, from warm ups to repertoire choices, to fit the age, skill level, vocal strengths, and interests of each singer. Watching her work with high school age students is a joy--she loves what she does and the students respond very well to her. They are enthusiastic about going to their lessons and beaming when the lessons are over. Monica brings her strong vocal pedagogy knowledge, along with her own talent and passion for teaching to the voice lesson. She is a wonderful instructor. Highly recommend!

Besides being a fantastic vocalist, Monica is also a great teacher. She is very creative, patient and calm (no drama), but is still disciplined and persistent. She managed to get basic music theory into my thick skull and help me with sight reading, and did not yell at me when I didn't do my homework! The only downside is that she is so talented and well trained that she makes singing look effortless.

Monica is such a fantastic teacher. She is one of those people who really listens to the needs of the student, and gives her all at every lesson. Through her knowledge and experience, Monica has rebuilt my voice and my confidence from the bottom up. I highly recommend working with her!
I have been a voice, acting, and teacher of creative arts for over 25 years. My background includes ten years of classical training with Maestro Julio Berrocal, as well as vocal training through the Feldekrais approach with Marcy Lindhiemer. In acting I have studied with renowned Stanislavsky scholar Sonia Moore and Master acting teacher of the Strasberg Method, Marcia Haufrecht. I received a B.A. For comparative literature and creative writing at the State University of New York at Purchase and I am currently studying for a masters in social work at Walden University. I believe, within al
l of us, Is the ability to express something distinctive and original. I work to help the student discover their individual and unique voice, weather it be through singing, acting or writing. I share with my students tools to gain the ability and confidence to achieve their goals. I empathize deeply with the challenges students may face when pursuing a life in the creative and performing arts, having worked professionally in those arena's for most of my adult life. I believe, it is the teachers job to respect each students individual process of learning. My students have gone on to become recording artists, Broadway performers, movie actors, blues and cabaret artists and published writers.
*** Lesson Details *** Voice I am an empathetic teacher, sensitive to the students individual process of learning. My singing lessons usually start with breathing and relaxation exercises. Vocal exercise come next, then when the student is fully warmed up, we will begin to work on songs. It is important that the student be part of the process of picking material since the more they personally respond to the material the more apt they are to be engaged in their lessons and the more quickly they will learn. After three to six months they will understand the fundamentals of breathing and relaxation and its importance to proper vocal training. They will have begun the process of extending their range and will understand the principles of performance in song. Acting As an acting teacher and coach, I tailor my classes to the needs of each student. I utilize improvisatory and sensory techniques to help unleash spontaneity. I also encourage the students to use their personal experiences as a way to access a full range of emotions. I enjoy working with the student on script analysis, so as to discover the underlying motivations of the character the student is working on. Creative and Lyric Writing I use prompts as a way to get the student writing. Often, I will ask the student to write for stretches of time without editing themselves. It is important to unleash imagination before beginning the process of editing. Many times it is the unexpected that is the must compelling.
*** Studio Equipment *** home- 10 minutes away from Manhattan with piano, seating for parents -practice studio seating for parents
*** Travel Equipment *** I provide a piano, cd/mp3 player and an large library of songbooks to work from. The student should bring sheet music of songs they want to work on and a recording device.
*** Specialties *** I specialize in teaching how to sing rock, pop, musical theater, jazz, and blues without hurting the voice as well as method acting instruction.

About Dr. Daniel
Dr. C. was most recently described by Tim Page with the Washington Post as a “funny, exuberant and enormously likable” Papageno during Summer Opera Theater’s performance of The Magic Flute. Previously, the Post critiqued Daniel in Opera Theatre of Northern Virginia’s Barber of Seville as a “bright and bouncy” Figaro who delivered his lines with “aplomb.” Daniel has performed as a young artist in the Studio Programs of El Paso Opera, Kentucky Opera and Portland Opera. He has sung the roles of Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, Sid in Albert Herring, Figaro in The Marriage of Figaro, Belcore in L’e
lisir d’amore, Jupiter in Orphée aux enfers, Dr. Falke in Die Fledermaus, Bottom in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Masetto in Don Giovanni, Schaunard in La Boheme, the Clock in L’Enfant et les Sortileges, Mandarin in Turandot and Haushofmeister in a world premiere of Dorian Gray. Daniel has had the distinct pleasure of singing with The Metropolitan Opera, Washington National Opera, Fort Worth Opera, Kentucky Opera, Bel Cantanti Opera, Amarillo Opera, Crested Butte Opera, Opera Southwest, Waco Lyric Opera, Concert Royal, Ash Lawn Opera Festival and Seagle Music Colony. He was a finalist for Dallas and El Paso Opera Guild Competitions, the NATS Singer of the Year Competition and the NATSAA National Competition. Daniel resides in New York City.

Dan is a marvelous teacher.
His wealth of information, dedication and patience are a true gem. He is passionate about teaching and has a wonderful, positive, uplifting approach. We worked on various aspects of technique, such as strengthening the voice improving pitch, range, breath efficiency and vocal power.
We worked hard but there was always levity in our lessons. He is classically trained, but his instruction applies to all singing styles, including my own (Bossa Nova). Thanks, Dan. I am grateful and I will definitely be back for more!

Dr. Collins is a fantastic teacher! He takes time to listen to your voice then comes up with specific exercises, suggestions, and encouraging comments to bring out the best sound. I heard results after my first class and every class after.
I also learn best by example and he's patient enough to sing verses along with me in a beautiful baritone. We've even practiced pronunciation for other languages and will go over translations to help with the emotion of a piece.
I'd highly recommend Dr. Collins for any level vocal student/performer/hobbyist. Your voice will only improve under his coaching.

Daniel is a wonderful teacher with an incredible voice. His passion for voice is evident in his teaching. He gets quite excited when you hit a note correctly! I think that kind of positivity and energy inspires you to do better and work harder. I believe a teacher should be encouraging and his non-judgmenetal attitude helps foster the growth of learning. I definitely recommend him!

Stephanie is a very talented teacher. I made lots of progress in just my first few lessons in confidence and my voice. She has specific

"Tanisha is impressive. She focused quickly on my goal of developing a more sustainable speaking voice and gave me a set of practical exercises, tips, read
ing material, and video material for continuing to improve my delivery even after our lesson package had ended. She tailored her instruction to my specific needs and blended her advice with humor and empathy. I felt comfortable working with her. She even got me to sing once or twice. You'll be really happy with your voice instruction from her. Thank you, Tanisha!"

"I would like to start off with by saying that Tiffini is an amazing teacher. I have been taking lessons with her for the last year and a half through Skyp
e and each lesson in that time with her has been an enjoyable experience. I started taking speaking voice lessons with her then switched to singing lessons. She was able to help me immensely on both my speaking voice and singing; getting rid of my mumbling for former and helping me to regain confidence in the latter. With both types of lessons she was knowledgeable, encouraging, kind, patient, and a fun teacher to have. I could go on for at least a few pages about Tiffini, but bottom line is that she is a great teacher and I would highly recommend her to anyone who wanted to start taking lessons through takelessons.com."
