Athena has enjoyed tremendous success as a singer/songwriter, actress, musician and teacher. She is originally from Toronto, but is now based out of New York City.
Athena has released 5 CDs, toured North America (both as a singer/songwriter and as an actress), and taught voice, piano, guitar, songwriting and acting for the past 13 years. She has shared the stage Sarah McLachlan and Jim Carrey, and taught songwriting to girls with Lisa Loeb (the teaching project with Lisa Loeb was made into a documentary and premiered at Tribeca Cinemas). As a teacher, Athena has worked at numerous schools, organizations, and colleges across North America, including Oregon State University, Montcalm College, Manhattan New Music Project, TADA!, and The Ontario Science Center. She teaches privately (voice, piano, guitar, acting & songwriting), and facilitates workshops to kids and adults on topics ranging from "Vocal Technique", to "Booking Your Own Tour", to "Creating Original Musical Theater",She also conducts staff development workshops on "Communication and Socialization through the Arts for Autistic Populations" in New York City schools. Athena teaches all ages (age 4-99) and ability levels (gifted - special needs).
As a singer/songwriter, Athena has released 5 original CDs and numerous dance singles. Her latest full length album, "Little Girl Dreams", was produced by Emmy/Grammy Winning Producer Cynthia Daniels (Melissa Etheridge, Dave Mathews Band, "Producers" on Broadway). Athena's music is storytelling pop with a theatrical twist. She combines a dramatic 4 octave range voice with gorgeous piano and guitar arrangements. She performs regularly in the New York circuit, at notable clubs including the Knitting Factory, The Cutting Room, and Jacob Javitz Center. She has been featured in radio, TV, newspapers and magazines around the world.
As an actress, Athena has appeared in numerous commercials, Film, TV and Off-Broadway productions including Hush (Players Club in NYC and Hudson Theater in LA), Fran in The Day They Shot John Lennon (Redmill Theater), "Tina" in Love Sucks (NYMF Festival) and principle roles on the History Channel and CNN. She won Best Comedy at Canada's YTV Youth Achievement Awards (Judge Eugene Levy). She currently performs as a Lady Gaga Impersonator at corporate events across the country.
Athena's training began with classical piano at age 4, voice at age 8, acting at age 9, and guitar at 16. She began working as a professional actress in Film & TV at age 12, and recorded her first album at 20. She majored in Theater at Claude Watson School for the Arts in Toronto, and earned a BFA in Music from Concordia University in Montreal. She regularly attends master classes in New York, with internationally renowned teachers such as Neil Semer, Kimberly Vaughn, Garry Dial, Francine Kay, and Maggie Maes.
As a performer, Athena is bold, imaginative, and chilling. As a teacher, Athena is patient, creative, and inspiring.

My first vocal teacher and the best!
Ms. Rachel was an amazing vocal teacher! We would always start off with simple and fun warm-ups, breathing techniques, and would practice singing songs from musicals. My first couple lessons she taught me how to sing I Feel Pretty from West Side Story and we both had so much fun with it! After a little while we learned Cups from Pitch Perfect and then we got into the Vaccai book and I learned a couple songs from there. Overall Ms. Rachel was the best! She even offered to Skype a lesson with me since she moved. She cared about me and always helped me improve my voice in every way she could. I love her!
I completed my Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance with a certificate in Music in Education from the New England Conservatory of music and completed a Master of Music in Opera Performance from the University of Maryland Opera Studio. Monica is an outstanding voice teacher. She customized each lesson, from warm ups to repertoire choices, to fit the age, skill level, vocal strengths, and interests of each singer. Watching her work with high school age students is a joy--she loves what she does and the students respond very well to her. They are enthusiastic about going to their lessons and beaming when the lessons are over. Besides being a fantastic vocalist, Monica is also a great teacher. She is very creative, patient and calm (no drama), but is still disciplined and persistent. She managed to get basic music theory into my thick skull and help me with sight reading, and did not yell at me when I didn't do my homework! The only downside is that she is so talented and well trained that she makes singing look effortless.

*** Lesson Details *** Voice I am an empathetic teacher, sensitive to the students individual process of learning. My singing lessons usually start with breathing and relaxation exercises. Vocal exercise come next, then when the student is fully warmed up, we will begin to work on songs. It is important that the student be part of the process of picking material since the more they personally respond to the material the more apt they are to be engaged in their lessons and the more quickly they will learn. After three to six months they will understand the fundamentals of breathing and relaxation and its importance to proper vocal training. They will have begun the process of extending their range and will understand the principles of performance in song. Acting As an acting teacher and coach, I tailor my classes to the needs of each student. I utilize improvisatory and sensory techniques to help unleash spontaneity. I also encourage the students to use their personal experiences as a way to access a full range of emotions. I enjoy working with the student on script analysis, so as to discover the underlying motivations of the character the student is working on. Creative and Lyric Writing I use prompts as a way to get the student writing. Often, I will ask the student to write for stretches of time without editing themselves. It is important to unleash imagination before beginning the process of editing. Many times it is the unexpected that is the must compelling.

Dr. Collins is a fantastic teacher! He takes time to listen to your voice then comes up with specific exercises, suggestions, and encouraging comments to bring out the best sound. I heard results after my first class and every class after.
I also learn best by example and he's patient enough to sing verses along with me in a beautiful baritone. We've even practiced pronunciation for other languages and will go over translations to help with the emotion of a piece.
I'd highly recommend Dr. Collins for any level vocal student/performer/hobbyist. Your voice will only improve under his coaching.

Daniel is a wonderful teacher with an incredible voice. His passion for voice is evident in his teaching. He gets quite excited when you hit a note correctly! I think that kind of positivity and energy inspires you to do better and work harder. I believe a teacher should be encouraging and his non-judgmenetal attitude helps foster the growth of learning. Dr. Collins is an incredible voice teacher and coach. Under his guidance, my total beginner’s voice (not even karaoke) grew so much and so quickly!
Dan has a natural ability to bridge students' personal ambitions with the appropriate balance of technical training, push and honest encouragement.
