Samantha started taking piano lessons at age 3 from her mother, who was also a music teacher. She played piano continuously through school, and also learned to play clarinet, guitar, flute, trumpet and sax, often playing different instruments in her school's band. Samantha believes in teaching the fundamentals of music first, which will make the following lessons easy and fun for the student. She has used a variety of methods on different students and will use whichever method will be best understood by each individual student. She enjoys getting to know the strengths and weaknesses of each student and building on the foundation teacher and student have built together. As a team, teacher and student will put together short and long- term goals and work towards each goal with every lesson. Samantha asks each of her students to commit to practicing and to give their best effort at each lesson. If the student can make that commitment, goals will be reached quickly and easily.

The student will also see marked improvements in their school work, attention span, confidence and overall well - being.

Students learn music theory, basic improvisation, harmony, music analysis, technique and interpretation.

Wonderful!

Samantha D. is wonderful. My kids play so well for only 1 year'sworth of lessons. I would highly recommend her to anyone! I am blownaway by the music that comes out of the Piano from a 7 and 11 year old.My 11 year old signed up for her first music competition at school. Ifyou told me one year ago I would have girls playing a piano, I would notbelieve you. I truly thought they would quit after a couple of months.Not the case. They are musically talented and still love it. Thanks toSamantha D! They are now thriving in the in-school music program.Thank you, TakeLessons, for filtering out the best teachers. When achild has a small window of interest, you have to grab it the rightway...the wrong teacher would not have given me these results.

Highly Recommend her!

My daughters (10, & 6) have only had three lessons with Samantha! They love it. Her nature is kind and welcoming. She can tell how much they can handle so doesn't overwhelm them with too much theory or pieces to play. She strikes a nice balance. My 10 year old started composing her own song when she became bord with the beginner book! Samantha has added to this excitement and changed her teaching style to match my daughters learning style. My daughter was beaming! Samantha has taught her how to take the next pieces of theory and add it to her song. She also ordered music my daughter enjoys like Selena Gomez. My 6 year old is excited every week and doesn't want to be late. My husband and I thought this would be just another thing to start and quit. So far they are going strong!

I graduated with a B.A. in Professional Music from Boston's Berklee College of Music. When I first heard about Berklee, I too thought of warm and sunny Berkeley California and not the frigid winters in Boston. Berklee however, is respected world-wide as the musicians music college. Each year, only 3% of students are able to graduate. Advanced freshman placement accelerated all Berklee core requirements by my sophomore year. An early focus on their Advanced Harmony/Theory and Ear Training electives provided the rare opportunity of experiencing Berklee's highest level courses in both departments
. I graduated with Honors in 7 semesters with a cumulative music GPA of 3.6. (Magna Cum Laude). Since graduation, I've been a full-time independent professional musician with over 28 years of experience in all facets of music. Teaching private piano, guitar, and bass students however, is my first love and I consider my biggest accomplishment to be the accomplishments of my students. Since Berklee, I've amassed an extensive teaching library from over 5,000 original lesson plans tailored to meet the needs of students of all ages, levels, and musical interests. All students are provided a safe environment in my townhouse of 20 years located in a nice suburban townhouse development minutes from the intersection of Rt. 30 and Rt. 23 (New Holland Ave.). My 3rd floor teaching studio provides all instruments and students have the option to bring their guitar or bass to each lesson or simply use one of mine. Jim Rocks! I love hanging out every Sunday jamming

I have dabbled with the guitar for a couple of years but never got serious about. This year I made a new years resolution to get serious about it and find a guitar instructor.

I am so happy that I found Jim. He is brilliant with music and is that laid back, rad teacher that you hope to have for guitar.

We are about 5 weeks into lessons and I'm already playing Dead or Alive, Blackbird, Polly, and learning new songs every week. I thought we would be doing "boring" exercises still but he is great at teaching you the basics while keeping it fun.

A+ for Jim. Also, he is extremely flexible.

The only downside is that I wanted him to teach me how to sing Blackbird, but that's not his cup of tea. haha

Hey Jim- I had a GREAT 1st lesson. You went slow enough so that I could understand what was going on but also went a little quicker so we could make the most of the half hour session. The things we worked on were exactly what i was hoping for. I will definitely be back on I feel confident in my "homework" - those darn finger exercises and I have a love hate relationship right now!! Thank you!

Thomas J. W. is an active music teacher, composer, adjudicator, and clinician in the greater Philadelphia area. He has over fifteen years experience as a concert band director, marching band director, jazz improvisation instructor, choral director, private instructor, and marching drill writer. He served as an Associate Director of the Warren Junior Military Band of Youngstown, Ohio from 1995 to 2005. He also served as a visual staff member for the renowned North Penn Marching Knights of Lansdale, PA for one season in 2004.

He is a current adjudicator with Cavalcade of Bands. He is a member of MENC, PMEA, NJMEA, ASCAP, CASA, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and the National Band Association. He appeared in the Marquis Who's Who Among American Educators in 2004 and 2005, an honor rarely bestowed upon teachers, as students who appear in the Who's Who Among American High School Students must nominate them. He currently is a music teacher at the Center for Performing and Fine Arts of the PA Leadership Charter School in West Chester, PA and resides in Downingtown, PA with his wife and two sons.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are tailored to the needs and interests of each student. If a student is involved in school music ensembles, we will work with their lesson books from school in addition to material outside of the books, including SmartMusic, Noteflight, and teacher-created materials. We will focus on building proper tone production and individual technique - something that often is difficult to learn in a large ensemble setting.

I am capable of starting a beginner student on any band instrument including percussion, any classical string instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass), and piano. I can begin a student on drum set and work with them through their first method book, but I would then recommend they find a specialized drum set teacher after a period of six to twelve months.

For advanced students, I work from selected conservatory etude books on developing advanced skills and can work with students on audition pieces for honors bands/orchestras or college auditions.

My lessons are a half-hour once a week, with the option of working for 45 minutes or 60 minutes.

Having attended Westminster Choir College and taken music theory based classes in highschool, I have had experience with everything from basic theory to music analysis to ear training and more. I have taken practical theory classes and music history/world music classes which have contributed to my understanding of the patterns in and characteristics of a wide variety of musical genres. At Drexel University, as a music therapy masters student, I was expected to improvise and transpose at a moments notice. Hi, my name is Rosalind H. and I began my musical education at the age of ten, when I first started taking lessons.  *Please be aware that I teach Beginners Piano.  I do, however, teach all levels of voice, as long as the interested voice student is over at least the age of 8. Singing lessons for students younger than this age can be detrimental to a child's vocal development.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am available to travel to your house (piano students must have a piano or keyboard) or host you in my home 

Piano students can expect to learn the basic music theory knowledge, including reading staff notation and lead sheets.  I will also focus on fingering techniques and coordination.Students will be expected to practice theory knowledge and songs outside of lessons to help improve finger coordination and music-reading speed and accuracy.

I offer beginning to advanced singing lessons for students interested in classical, operatic, Broadway and popular music and beginning piano lessons.I try to provide my students the opportunity to practice a wide range of skills when learning music.

Voice students will learn exercises to practice good breath control, posture and diction, all of which form the foundations of good singing.  Students will be expected to practice these exercises outside of lessons, prior to practicing vocal literature, so as to develop good singing habits.  About fifty percent of lesson time will be dedicated to technique, and the other fifty percent will be dedicated to learning vocal pieces.  Dependent upon their level of knowledge, students may also be asked to watch videos of professional singers outside of lessons, so as to expand their musical understandings and aural sensitivity.  These practices will enhance muscle coordination and breath control when singing, helping to enhance and improve pitch, timbre, expression and vocal range.

As a board certified music therapist, I often draw upon those skills I learned during my master's degree in music therapy, which taught me that music can have a profound effect on the human brain and upon cognitive development.  My skills as a music therapist allow me to better understand a student's cognitive strengths and areas for improvement, and to develop individualized teaching strategies which utilize student strengths.

My home studio is equipped with keyboard, guitar and piano, as well as a sizable repertoire of classical, broadway and popular music. I am more than happy to help students find any music they may need for lessons that is not already in my library. I also own a portable keyboard that I use for out-of-studio voice students.

I expect students to provide a piano if they are receiving at piano lessons as it is needed for practice. I have a portable keyboard for voice students, but I strongly recommend that voice students record their lessons for reference during practice.

Jonathan began his musical studies at age 7, after falling in love with his first classical music cassette tape given to him the prior year. Jonathan trained as a pianist throughout his childhood, and studied with the venerated Harvey Wedeen at Temple University in Philadelphia through middle and high school. He made his orchestral debut as soloist with the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra at age 15, after winning their instrumental competition. He was recently a featured guest composer at the Bowling Green State University New Music and Art Festival. His piece for stings, Nightscape, has been a particular audience favorite and performed by orchestras across the US. Jonathan also enjoys doing collaborative and multimedia projects with local choreographers, videographers, and musicians.

As a teacher, Jonathan is exceptionally patient, always engaged with his students’ progress, and actively listens to what his students want from their lessons and in helping them decide on the music they want to play. He takes a very practical and holistic approach to teaching keyboard, and always makes sure to discover the fun in learning. Jonathan strongly believes that all students, no matter where one is in life, possess the ability to achieve success in their lessons – and that his job is to guide them to unlock and discover their potential, to inspire their curiosity, and to help them advance their musical skills on their chosen instrument.
