Terry P.

Henderson, NV

I do not play bass regularly but can teach all levels/styles beginner to advanced.

About Terry

Terry P. is a composer, producer, and a multi-instrumentalist specializing in guitar and piano. He has been teaching all types of people at all levels for over eight years at Axis Music Academy in Southfield, and has taught over 8,000 lessons. Terry has a Bachelors of Music with a concentration in Composition and Theory from Wayne State University. In 2012, Terry was awarded the prestigious Kresge Arts Fellowship in the performing arts category.
This is Terry's bio from the Kresge Arts In Detroit website:

Terry had already started making a lasting impact on the local rock scene – in hi
s influence over other artists and his musical innovations – prior to studying music composition at Wayne State University. Terry has used this classical training toward his goal of elevating the musical consciousness of popular music audiences by exposing them to compositional techniques they would otherwise never hear without listening to classical music. Terry, a multi-instrumentalist, has focused his efforts on the exploration of these techniques in contemporary genres, specifically progressive metal. In recent years, he has employed himself as a private instructor and has started scoring music for film.

I make sure that lessons are fun for the student, and that the student is learning material that they like. At the same time, I make sure that my students become well-rounded musicians by teaching them skills in reading and music theory. Lessons are tailored to the student, and my approach varies with everyone I teach. I will fast-track you toward your goal while supplementing your lesson experience with exposure to new things that will challenge you in a fun way. I have learned to play almost every instrument and will teach just about anything, although I am strongest with the piano and guitar. I am open to teaching all ages, all genres/styles, and have even taught students with various disabilities. My extensive training also makes me a good tutor for undergraduate music students taking classes in ear-training and theory.
Beginning students should expect to be playing a handful of their favorite songs after studying with me for a few months, and as well they will have a basic understanding of reading notes on the instrument, and a basic understanding of music theory fundamentals. Advanced students will find that they are continually inspired and challenged.

*Special note about locations taught*

I am centered in Ferndale, but would like to keep my travels north of 8 mile road. If you live south of 8 mile but still feel that you live in a safe neighborhood, we can deal with locations on a case by case basis.

*** Travel Equipment ***

I have worked with Terry for 5 years and I have had nothing but a positive experience working with him. Terry always makes lesson fun while challenging me and pushing me to become a better musician. Working with Terry I have learned about music theory, music history, songwriting, and guitar performance. You will be had pressed to find a teacher who cares about their students as much as Terry does. He works to make you the best you can be and takes pride in the fact that he turns out great musicians. Terry made me the musician I am today and I am very thankful to have worked with such a wonderful teacher. Whether you are a serious musician that wants to take their playing to the next level or a learning a new instrument, you can not go wrong working with Terry.

Terry is a great instructor. He will custom tailor the lesson to your needs and teach you how to play guitar the way you want. In the year I have been working with him I have learned how to play many songs and made improvements in rhythm, picking, and dynamics. He can transcribe music or help you use your ear to do it yourself. During lessons Terry will discover and correct bad habits

Terry isn't just another instructor that gives you some homework and prays for the best. He is passionate about music and will teach you to play better.

You will use the notation system that suits you best. I have developed one that a 6 year old can read. you will learn to slap and pop the bass. Pull Offs, and Hammer On. You will be guided by me through method books with supplemental materials I create to help you advance. I have been teaching bass guitar for 5 years. I want to be your next instructor.

About Mark

I teach according to your individual needs. I help you become successful on piano, violin, viola, bass, guitar. I help you learn the instrument and learn to read music with my own ideas using fun worksheets and songs you really like to learn how to play. I fill your voids with activities such as practice techniques, sub-lessons, and ear training. I guide you toward proper posture, tone development, and the ability to keep a steady beat. I help you develop your musical independence by tweaking lessons to help you succeed. I believe talent is not a factor in learning. Mastering an instrument is
the result of effective instruction and step by step guidance toward foundations and skills. I love to teach private lessons because I believe in spreading the word to make the great gift of playing music available to many. It is an inherited right and gift to enjoy a lifetime of personal satisfaction from playing a musical instrument. I love to help students build confidence and make progress. I help them problem solve by going through problems with them. I teach "how to think" and how to become a life long learner of the instrument. I love the challenge of finding ways to help students become successful at every step of the way. I am excited and enthused to be apart of student progress. I am influenced by many 20th Century performers including Van Cliburn, Oscar Peterson, George Shearing, Erroll Garner, Yudi Menuhin, Issac Stern and Horowitz among others. I am passionate in my teaching about providing an effective solution to my student's needs.

I am a professional educator who works with children and has the patience to help them. I am a performer who has over 30 years of public experience in solo playing as well as ensemble work. I have performed at Nordstrom for nine years, and performed at many private functions. I have performed classical as well as jazz music as part as my performance experience. I have taught private lessons for a total of nine years.

I believe in personalizing your approach to the strangeness of the instrument. You need to learn much about posture, and proper tone production within the first year. Method books are not "how to" books. You need a teacher to guide you toward becoming familiar with the instrument. You also need to learn how to listen to the sounds you make as you play. To develop "musical independence" you need to become musically literate, develop tone production skills, and internalize a steady beat. Rhythm and tone are basic concepts that must be mastered to maximize pleasure in playing your instrument. Learning how to problem solve is another skill I teach so you can help yourself toward progress.
I believe in using the instrument in daily activities such as playing "Happy Birthday" at family get together. Christmas Songs or Hanukkah Songs can bring much joy during December family parties.
A musician in the house brings much joy during holidays and celebrations; and the families are brought closer together. Memories are created and last forever. Playing an instrument is exciting and expresses what can not be said using words. I believe in teaching students based on their strengths, and building upon them. I am excited to help you learn!!

You can advance quickly if you are taught to listen to yourself and use common sense, and make sense of the music theory I will teach you.I will guide you every step of the way to understand how music works. Music lessons are fun and enjoyable. I am pleased to guide you through your learning every step of the way. My students in Las Vegas have had much success with my teaching and guidance. I will succeed where others fail. You will reap the benefits of my professional instruction.

Electric Bass guitar styles, techniques, note reading and theory and performing.

About Edward

My name is Edward and I have been playing music most of my life. I was involved in every form of music education that I could find, and took private lessons on guitar and piano for ten years. During this time, I learned that I improved when I performed music that I liked. I attended the College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY and received a B.S. in Studio Music in 1996. I then moved to San Diego, CA and started my own business teaching music. The lessons were taught at the students' homes and I incorporated the students' interests in teaching. I have also performed for many years and have written
many songs that have been recorded and performed.

The main styles include (but not limited to) rock, blues, classical, pop, jazz and country. Please contact me if you have any other questions about my teaching methods.

*** Studio Equipment ***

Edward really worked with my kids, taking into account what they wanted to learn, and how they wanted to learn it. This was great, because one was more focused on classical music, and the other on pop. He brought notes, and sent emails, and generally kept me very well updated on their progress. I would definitely recommend him as a teacher!

Nick B.

Las Vegas, NV

I have transcribed and written several bass books for Hal Leonard's Bass Play-Along series.

I like to teach musicians to learn music theory by learning their favorite songs and then dissecting them to find out what makes them work.

I can teach you to read notes and chord charts and get you ready for auditions and performances.

About Nick

About Nick:

He is a full-time professional musician who has taught hundreds of students how to play.

Nick has also transcribed over a dozen books for the Hal Leonard Publishing Co.

He has spent time as a private guitar and bass instructor at an accredited Conservatory of Music, two music stores, three private schools, as well as in his own private studio before relocating to Las Vegas to pursue more playing opportunities!

His playing experience includes, but is not limited to: original funk/rock/fusion groups, jazz ensembles, metal bands, improv bands, and various cover/tribute
bands. His performance experience has found him entertaining on large festival stages throughout the midwest, as well as intimate club and casino gigs, private parties, corporate events and weddings.

Nick has been teaching private lessons and masterclasses since 2004. He has a extensive experience teaching all styles of electric and acoustic guitar, including extended range instruments. Additionally, he teaches bass, improvisation, music theory, songwriting, and advanced techniques.

During your lessons you will work on anything from absolute basics, your favorite songs, reading notes, music theory and ear training to technique, improvisation, composition and anything in-between! And you will be learning in ways that are fun to play, sound good and can be applied immediately to your current playing!

Stop waiting! It's time to begin or extend your guitar knowledge and get you achieving that sound you're looking for!

Although an occasional book may be recommended, and any book you already have can be used, all other lesson materials will be provided (sheet music, charts, scale info, jam tracks, etc.) by your instructor!

I had a week in Vegas set aside for a trade show, and wanted to also use the time to hunker down in my hotel room and work on my bass playing. I wanted to locate a teacher during that time to help me accelerate my playing over what I'd been able to figure out on my own, and I was extremely fortunate to be able to work in several lessons with Nick.

Nick's a terrific guy who's not only tremendously knowledgeable, but incredibly flexible in his teaching style and very quickly got me where I wanted to go. Thanks again, and my strongest possible recommendation!

All lessons are documented by the teacher through a notebook kept by the student. Important concepts, musical graphs, musical exercises, and weekly goals are added to the notebook each week. Fundamentals of Rhythm, Pitch, and Tone are emphasized for all instruments.

Lessons are goal oriented, fun, and exciting. Any musical challenge is addressed from different angles in order to find a solution. The teacher uses "jamming" (improvising together) as a way for students to get better while having fun. Oliver can jam with the student through playing different instruments.
