Brian G.

Evergreen Park, IL

I am able to teach piano on all levels and am strongest on this instrument. Currently I mainly work with beginners on the instrument but can teach a variety of levels.

About Brian

Hello, my name is Brian and I am currently studying my Bachelor's in Music Education at VanderCook College of Music. It is the only college in the world that specializes in specifically Music Education, and has been since 1909. The school teaches us a basic understanding of 17 instruments and voice, while also teaching theory, aural skills, music history, professional ed courses, and includes a large number of various ensembles. Because of this, I'm able to teach some basic concepts on all of the band/orchestra instruments. Personally, I started taking piano lessons in 2000 and started drum se
t lessons in 2002. I've always had a dual musician life after that point, and was apart of the band and jazz band programs from 5th grade until now (sophomore in college). While attending Marist High School, I taught myself guitar, bass guitar, banjo, harmonica, and tin whistle. I expanded my concepts of music and genres, and find myself very knowledgeable of classical, jazz, rock, blues, and pop on piano, and fluent in jazz, blues, rock, Latin, and pop styles on drum set. I am willing to teach any student their musical needs as they prosper through their lives as an artist. I hope to one day teach in a band setting with my degree, offer private lessons, and compose music on the side.

*** Lesson Details ***
For lessons, I'm ready to work on making some music while always having fun. As the lessons progress, I start to expect more from the student regarding retaining knowledge and muscle memory throughout learning their technique and repertoire. This will come with consistent practice. After 3 or 6 months, the beginning students will find themselves recognizing note names, rhythms, meter, melodies and harmonies, and mechanics of their instrument. My goal is to keep the student interested in the music while learning about themselves.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living room w/ piano

Basement w/ drum set, guitars, bass, amps, harmonicas

both have seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
I would expect my students to provide themselves with their own instrument but I would provide my own in addition to theirs while teaching, unless there is the sharing of a piano. I can also provide various sheet music.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical, jazz, rock, and blues for piano. I specialize in rudimentary drumming, rock, jazz, and latin for drums/percussion. I believe in making sure the student learns as much as possible about his or her instrument, can improve each day, and ultimately can have fun while playing.

This teacher has many great qualities in the field of music education.

I am learning a great deal from this teacher about the piano and life qualities in general. I have taken the tools I've learned from each lesson to apply in my own practice to develop myself as a musician. I would recommend Brian Goodman to anyone interested in learning about music.

Gwendolyn F.

Harvey, IL

Student will receive a music program tailored for their age, experience with piano, and goals. I determine the appropriate text and workbooks, supplies and exercises based on the results of my evaluation and discussions with the student if an adult or the parent if student is a minor. Students who play other instruments are given supporting instruction to enhance their skills and performance on all instruments if desired.

About Gwendolyn

I am a retired concert pianist, entrepreneur and Minister of Music. I have been involved in the creation, performance and teaching of voice, piano and dramatic performance in one form or another since the ripe old age of 6 when I had my first recital. My recital piece was Fur Elise by Beethoven. My students still request it for their repertoire after they hear me play it from memory after all these years.

Unfortunately I no longer have the time or the patience to deal with 3 year olds such as I was or cell phone toting young people who expect to be able to play Beethoven after 6 weeks.
I have begun to work with senior citizens such as myself who want to go back and take the piano lessons they somehow missed in younger years. Many seniors express regret at never learning to play an instrument, especially now that learning to play a musical instrument has been shown that doing so may help protect them from dementia and related memory loss.

SO if you are a musically challenged senior who wants to be able to serenade your spouse on your anniversary; or your grandchildren at birthday parties; friends and family during the Holidays; or just for fun, give me a call. No need to weather the storm. If you are in the south suburbs on the east side, I'll come to you.

He enjoys playing lots of Motown, funk, and jazz, but is proficient in Classical, Rock, and Blues as well. Nick's dedication to education is shown through his music and his personal volunteer hours, he feels his diverse background gives his students an advantage to a broader perspective of music and theory.

*** Lesson Details ***
I set an individual curriculum based on students needs, wants and aspirations. We will focus on proper technique, theory, musicianship and sightreading to become a better all around musician. After a few months of lessons, you will have the proper fundamentals to grow as a musician and discover the art of music.

Nicholas really tailored the lessons to what I needed. They weren't cookie-cutter lessons, and I appreciated that. He answered all the questions I had, and helped me understand some concepts that I never would have gotten just learning online. I definitely recommend him as a teacher.

Nicholas was very patient, took the time to write down information that was helpful (very helpful). Nicholas understood where I was in reference to me knowing nothing about the guitar and he is very knowledgeable with the music trade. He was very clear and kept things simple. I truly enjoy his instructions, can't wait for the next lesson.

Nicholas is very accommodating to a student like me. While I have some background in piano, I'm lacking in key areas. Nicholas is able to tailor his lessons to my lopsided needs. He's also a great guy!

Music is a series of cultured patterns. Musicians create  a  pattern that makes us anticipate a resolution and holds back .. makes you wait for it. It begins with a simple idea which then becomes this beautiful piece of art. We are all different and our taste of music it's shaped by our culture and our brain. This is not a music class .. at least, not in a conventional sense. We make the surreal become real. We take your inside earworms and create art. We add texture, balance, contrast, expression, body, and emotion to your brain's palate. We do not define a genre from what we create, we just blend the music elements to find your music taste. We begin with Rhythm, the driving force in  music and compositon and the most valued skill of  any  musician's  arsenal. We compose, arrange, and orchestrate your masterpiece. We also learn how to record it, mix it, and master it. At the end our series of lessons we host student showcases where you will be able to show off your new talent. The ...

I have known Dr. Stanleigh Jones to be an outstanding organist and performer; but it has also been my privilege to know him as an exceptional instructor as well. The profoundness of his knowledge as a performer and instructor blended with his communication skills to explain, are distinctive attributes I greatly admire of him.
I’ve been a student of Dr. Jones for nearly five years now and for me, the most outstanding quality that have motivated me and kept me this long is his patience and understanding. Anyone can find a great performer, but finding a great instructor is not always easy. With Dr. Jones, I am blessed to have found both!

Stan Jones is an amazing organist, composer, arranger, orchestrater , and teacher! He taught me to appreciate organ music. I used to think that Bach's music was glorified finger exercises, until Stan Jones helped me to see the musically expressive side of Bach's music. Now I enjoy playing the music of Bach. Stan Jones is a very gifted teacher!

I have tried piano lessons many times through the years, and the other experiences did not work too well. I am so glad to have such an excellent teacher like Stan. He is patient and encouraging. Those qualities are hard to find in a teacher of his caliber. I started with 2 degrees in Voice Performance, but didn't have the same level of piano skills. Stan can take you from any level, and take you to the next. I certainly recommend Stan as a teacher.
