Elizabeth E.

Indianapolis, IN

I've been teaching piano for 5 years and have played for 25 years. I recently moved from Dallas, where I taught a studio of 25 students. I teach all ages and ability levels and specialize in classical piano. You'll start by learning the basics of technique, note reading, and music theory, and soon you'll be playing a variety of music from your favorite styles!

About Elizabeth

I've taught a studio of 25 students for five years and I studied privately for fifteen years, including as a music minor at the prestigious Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. I've also worked frequently as an accompanist for middle and high school band students competing in solo competitions. I recently relocated from Dallas, TX to my home state of Indiana and am excited to be growing my studio in Indianapolis!

I was born and raised in Bloomington, where I began piano lessons at the age of eight. In 2000, I attended the Piano Academy at the IU School of Music. During the summ
ers of 1994 to 1999, I attended Rocky Ridge Music Center in Estes Park, Colorado, where I studied piano and music theory with university faculty from across the country. I also played piano and clarinet in jazz and symphonic bands during middle and high school and was a member of the 2001 Indiana All-State Band.

I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of classical piano and music theory skills. With beginning and intermediate students I typically use the Piano Adventures series of books, which I supplement with music in a variety of styles ranging from authentic classical repertoire to jazz. Whatever your experience or goals, we'€™ll work together to come up with a plan that works for you.

I am a patient, encouraging teacher and we have fun during lessons. I also expect my students to practice daily at home so that they can make steady progress.

PLEASE NOTE: Students need to have a piano, whether acoustic or digital, to practice on at home. This is necessary in order for students to progress and to develop good piano technique. If you prefer to purchase an electric piano, look for one with touch-sensitive, weighted keys, which will mimic the feel and dynamic capabilities of an acoustic piano. If you do not have a piano, I'm happy to offer advice on finding a suitable one before your first lesson.

Elizabeth is a kind, caring and talented piano teacher. Her enthusiasm to teach my 8yr old son Jordan was clearly visible. She is patient and flexible. Jordan has learned and improved so much in piano by a remarkable measure and has exceeded all of my initial expectations. We are very saddened to see her go and its going to be very hard to replace her but we wish her well in her new journey!

I've been taking weekly lessons with Elizabeth for almost three years. I first took piano when I was ten years old, for only one year ,and now over thirty years later decided to try again. Elizabeth has been extremely patient and motivating. She's very good at explaining the music theory. In addition to going through the practice exercises and learning books, she also assigns sheet music. I look forward to the lessons and am sad that she will be moving.

Jay E.

Indianapolis, IN

I've been teaching piano for 3 years, and my students have been making excellent progress. I specialize in classical and pop music, and typically use either the Faber, Alfred, or Music Tree methods. I require daily practice from my students and I ask that they own a piano or keyboard in goo working condition with all 88 keys (keyboards must be touch sensitive). I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

About Jay

My musical journey began the with piano at the age of seven. I took regular lesson all the way through high school, eventually performing works such as Gershwin Etudes, Chopin Waltzes, Debussy Arabesques, and Beethoven Piano Sonatas. My trumpet performing started in 1993 and continues, having earned two degrees in trumpet performance, and performed with groups such as the Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra and Lone Star Wind Orchestra.

I have been teaching privately for 13 years, most recently having a studio of around 50 students in the Dallas area, where my students have performed at even
ts such as the state solo and ensemble contest in Austin, and it groups such as the Texas All State Band, and Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra to name a few. I now continue my private lesson instruction in Indianapolis. I have learned to adjust my teaching technique to match each individual, whether it be the music difficulty, learning pace, or musical genre preference. I have taught trumpet students of all ages and abilities, as well as beginning and intermediate piano and french horn. I look forward to helping you make beautiful music on your instrument!

My teaching philosophy

Private lessons are a one on one experience that give students guidance on their specific musical needs. Rather than only working on pieces for un upcoming audition or competition, I emphasize working on a variety of repertoire that will improve all aspects of one’s musicianship. Lessons are not a weekly practice or coaching session, but rather a time for me to help students with what they have already been practicing. More specifically, I help with embouchure formation, tone production, note reading, practice technique, musical phrasing, breathing, performance anxiety, rhythm, music theory, bad habits, or anything that will help the student make better music in the long term. I also frequently provide musical examples and inspiration by playing for my students.

Lesson Policies

Students are required to practice a minimum of fifteen to forty-five minutes per day (depending on the student’s age), six days per week.

Students are responsible for purchasing their own lesson materials, such as books, valve oil, metronome, etc. Piano students must also have a well maintained piano to practice on. High quality electric keyboards with all 88 weighted and touch sensitive keys are acceptable.

I have a 24-hour lesson rescheduling policy. If a student fails to provide notice via phone call, text or email at least 24 hours prior to the starting time of the lesson, or misses a lesson unannounced, the student will be charged for the full lesson cost. If adequate notification is given, the lesson will be made up at a later date. Lessons may not be missed without rescheduling, except for the months of December, July, and August. During any or all of these months, due to holidays and vacations, students may miss one lesson without rescheduling.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Clavinova keyboard with weighted keys

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide no equipment

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical, jazz, and commercial, having experience in all three areas. I teach a lot of ear training and music theory regardless of the instrument.

My Grand Daughter has been taking piano from Linda for over a year & she absolutely loves it! She has learned so much and always looks forward to going to her lesson. Linda is very professional and at the same time makes learning fun. Her location is convenient to get to from about anywhere on the south side of Indy. She organizes a yearly recital, which makes it nice for the students to experience performing in front of an audience. I would recommend Linda to anyone who would love to learn piano from a great teacher.

Josh L.

Indianapolis, IN

I studied classical piano for 15 years and contemporary for 8+ so I enjoy teaching aspiring pianists to reach their full potential. I teach classical as well as contemporary piano.

About Josh

I am a professional singer, pianist, songwriter, and recording artist. I graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University with a Bachelors of Music, specifically voice.

Voice students can expect to improve week to week in their vocal technique. Every voice has a unique timbre; I teach students to release built up tension and apply foundational techniques in order to unlock their own individual sound. I can help any student to sing with freedom, confidence, and expression.

I teach piano students of all different ages and experience levels. I studied classical piano for 16 years, and contempora
ry keyboard for 7 of those. I can teach students to read music and pursue classical excellence, to learn how to play contemporary music using chord sheets, or both depending on the goals and preference of the student.

As a professional recording artist I frequently take trips to Nashville for co-writing, recording, and meeting with record labels. I have written with well-known writers like Mia Fieldes from Hillsong, Tony Wood from Provident Label Group, Stu G from Delirious?, and Jon Steingard from Hawk Nelson. I love to mentor students who want to become effective, dynamic songwriters.

My personal passion is contemporary music but I firmly believe that great technique is essential to any and every style. I look forward to meeting you and helping you to become a better musician!

GREAT TEACHER!!!!

I am currently taking online Piano lessons from Josh.
(With the emphasis being on Christian music)

So far it has been a great experience. Josh is a super cool guy and has very calm, easy-going, and joyful personality. All these things combined make for a pleasant environment.

I have not taken any piano lessons before Josh (I was very much at the beginner level when I started my lesson). Josh did a great job of easing me into the piano without overwhelming me with information and/or techniques.

With his background, I feel like Josh is over-qualified to teach the piano - especially to beginners like myself, but he did a great job of teaching the basics and moving to more advanced techniques based on my skill level and the way I was progressing.

He also did a great job of challenging me to take my piano lessons to the next level without overwhelming me. He has definitely helped out tremendously in helping me learn the piano thus far and highly recommend him as a teacher.

He has a great structure to the course but also leaves room for the student to give input on things that they may want to learn, such as: songs, techniques, etc.

Additionally, he has done a great job of making the piano make sense. For example, sometimes I can get lost with all the different ways to play a chord, but he helped explain it in simple terms that makes sense.

I have learned so much from Josh in such a short amount of time and like I said, I highly recommend you take him as your teacher.. Great Teacher!

Josh is a student of his craft. He works hard to be the best and is great at teaching others to be excellent as well. He has a very creative approach to teaching and understands a lot of different styles. I have taken years worth of lessons and as an improv type artist myself, Josh has helped teach me a number of elements that were outside my knowledge base. Solid guy and a solid instructor.

Outstanding value. This is high level, professional instruction. Dana has been able to get my daughter to places in a few short months that we didn't reach in years with other instructors. With four kids, I have paid for a lot of coaching and instruction over the years - with out question Dana is at the top.
