Foteini M.

Flushing, NY

Whether you are interested to sing in a belt, mix, head, chest voice or all of the above, I can help you! By using well-thought scaffolding methods, based on research, experience, and clinical training my students are given the opportunity to project their voice in a healthy manner and with an extensive vocal range up to five octaves. I train students and professionals for all types of auditions and performances.

About Foteini

Personal Statement

I believe that progressive teaching must employ constructive pedagogical strategies to foster meaningful musical experiences for students to build and to exhibit competence. My pedagogical model is comprised of a student-centered approach to produce attainable challenges and to affect affirmative changes that will physically, technically, and emotionally enrich each student's performance.

During instruction, I exercise scaffolding methods to facilitate the students' zone of proximal development and innovative questioning to augment students' cognitive thinking and cri
tical thinking skills. The process of musical learning is purposeful when it is facilitated within a nurturing environment to motivate the students' intrinsic interests and that is my goal!

Currently, I prepare my students for singing auditions on Broadway and off-Broadway productions, CCM Singing Competitions, Commercials, Musical Theatre Productions, The Voice, X-Factor, American Idol, Specialized Performance Schools, College Music Performances, and Choirs. A number of my piano students prepare for the NYSSMA and ABRSM examinations. As a clinical trained Vocologist, I also work with students to correct vocal fold injuries and to prevent further trauma, as well to improve phonatory production during singing.

Education / Training

As a music professional, I specialize in Voice (Contemporary Commercial Music), Vocology, and in Piano (Classical). I am certified by the New York Singer Teacher™s Association and the Somatic Voicework The LoVetri Method. In addition, I am a City/State Teacher Certified in Music (K-12) and a member of NYSTA, NATS, and MEANYC.

I am a graduate of Columbia University in Music & Music Education, M.A., Ed.M. I have a comprehensive background and training in Piano, Voice, Vocal Pedagogy, Vocology, and General Music. I studied music at Hunter College and I obtained a Bachelor Degree in Italian from Queens College. As an instrumentalist, I attended Fiorello LaGuardia of Music & Art & Performing Arts H.S. and the Center for Preparatory Studies in Music at Queens College.

My professional development is comprised of studies in Vocology at Keidar Voice Instititute, in Voice Management Techniques at Westminster Choir College, and in Dalcroze at Lucy Moses School.

Over the years, I studied with acclaimed vocal professionals such as Dr. Anat Keidar, Dr. Jeanne Goffi-Fynn, and David Sabella-Mills among others.

Fay is such an amazing teacher! I got into Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School thanks to her. Best Teacher I've had, she helps train your voice and goes through the vocal anatomy so you understand techniques such as proper breathing, posture, coordination, grounding, acting, diction...etc. I've been her student for about a year three years now and I have to say that my voice has improved so much as a performer all thanks to her! If you get the chance, at least take a class, you will not regret it!

Indigo S.

Brooklyn, NY

Establish healthy technique, undo bad habits, and free your natural voice, enabling you to sing in the style of your choice.

About Indigo

Indigo has been working in the performing arts since she was biting ankles, first as a dancer and vocalist, and later as a guitarist. She's composed music for and/or sung dozens of international television commercials, spots on Law and Order and songs in Films premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, and as a lead guitarist and vocalist, toured the US, Canada, Europe and Iceland, extensively, performing in hundreds of theaters and rock clubs around the world, including-- Madison Square Garden, BAM, The Beacon Theater, Music Hall Of Williamsburg, The Bowery Ballroom, Club Nokia (LA), The Santa
Barbara Bowl, The Chicago Theater, Baby's All Right, The Mercury Lounge, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass (SF), Pickathon (Portland)

As a teacher, Indigo's method has, at it's core, a commitment to the idea of teaching a man to fish rather than giving him a fish, and every student, regardless of age or experience will be taught to understand, first and foremost, how music works, so that he or she comes away, not only with the skills to play the material covered in the lessons, but, eventually, the ability to teach themselves any other material they're interested in.

With an emphasis on ear training, her natural approach to learning theory, makes even the most wary or challenged student understand with ease, and find pleasure in the process of learning. Rote memorization is eliminated and replaced by a deep understanding, which grows naturally, while technique improves alongside it. Students quickly find themselves able to play, sing and understand things they'd previously only dreamed of.

These building blocks of music are the same regardless of the style of music you're interested in, but technique will be tailored to your specific interests, and from the start, a portion of each lesson will be devoted to learning the material of your choice.

Indigo also specializes in coaching songwriters, and can, in a gentle and non-invasive way, help to guide you through the process of both mastering craft, and establishing your own individual voice as a writer.

Indigo is amazing!!! Before meeting with Indigo, I was mostly self taught. Since I have started working with her, i've made great strides in both ear training and my overall understanding of the layout of the guitar. Indigo is extremely passionate and talented at what she does and cares deeply about the success of her students.

Concetta has a lot of excellent suggestions for improving singing performance. The typed notes she sends after each lesson were a tremendous asset as well. In only five lessons, she improved my daughters stage presence and taught her how to engage an audience. We were always short term clients, but Concetta more than met our goals and expectations. I would very much recommend her for any level of voice and performance. Excellent teacher

Excellent first impression. Arron connected with my son very well. Even though my son had to work hard, after the lesson he couldn't stop smiling and keep saying that he is going to practice daily to get better in singing. Hope the rest of classes are going to be as productive as my son's first class.
