Gina B.

New York, NY

Boleslavsky and Strasburg techniques combined with British Classical School. -as the result of my own training. We begin with training of the body for the ability to be relaxed and ready for anything, working in a chair in the Lee Strasburg system, releasing tensions and assessing the difference and working week by week on the sense memory exercises to build up the strength of imagination and elemental response and creativity. We also work with theatre games as well as analytical techniques.

About Gina

It's May of 2016!!!
I've just earned an MFA in Dance and Theater Studies from Mills College in Oakland, California. That will add to my BFA in Dance from The Juilliard School and my other pedigrees!! .
I'm in my home city of New York City.

I graduated from Juilliard in dance and pursued modern dance and all sorts of theatre, dance/theater, music/theater, experimental, modern and classical theater, post modern and modern dance. I have taught children and grown ups for many years. I have a strong performing career and love the way teaching keeps me in a giving and learning place.

**
* Lesson Details ***
With beginning students in acting I am very laid back and patient and believe strongly that in the play of games and experiments technique will develop and manifest. As the student becomes more advanced I become more demanding as do the materials. As an acting teacher I have an advanced capacity to take students along all the way to professional and beyond. I am a member of the Actors Studio, the performing unions and studied since childhood at ACT and then all over the world including The National in London.
In Singing and Piano I can be valuable to the beginning level and will want to send them to another teacher as they progress beyond my ability.
In dance I have a wide knowledge and can teach several forms as well as history and materials. In Juilliard I specialized in historical dance of the French Court which is also known as pre-ballet. At present I am studying Tango and other ballroom forms and can teach the beginning levels as well as help choreograph for weddings or events. Of course I can also teach Ballet and a many forms of Modern Dance.
In Visual Arts I can teach Abstract Painting, Installation and Performance Art. I have taught children and adults and have a way of bringing the body's expression into the act of making visual art that I and my students find very successful.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have supplies and space. Visual Art students need to contribute to materials by finding or purchasing whatever they like and adding to the mix. My students are welcome to use what I have here and I am always adding materials. Many people throw away materials that are perfectly good for art making so keep your eyes open and you'll find all kinds of good things. Visual Art students need to book a 2 hour minimum and I will lower the price if you just let me know you need it.

*** Travel Equipment ***
just a space to work in - we can create a work space out of any space.

*** Specialties ***
In dance I teach classical ballet principles for beginners or those who are returning and want to work carefully and privately. I teach from the tradition of Alfredo Corvino's principles of relationship to organic forms and structures for sound development. I studied with Mr Corvino for years and continue to study with Ernesta Corvino.
For acting I teach a combination of classical acting technique with American sense memory and relaxation skills. I am well versed in the teachings of Lee Strasberg and then spent time in London to 'fill in the cracks' of my training with analytical skills as well as the various european influences that the Royal National embrace.
I teach creative discovery in combination with classical devices so the student can discover their own artistry while learning actual classical devices for accomplishing specific goals.

Gina is great! My 14 year old daughter loved her. She helped her work on several techniques and scenes in preparation for an audition. I would definitely recommend her for various levels of experience.
She loves the craft and it shows in her teaching. Shes tough but so loving and enthusiastic.

I have had the opportunity to learn acting with Gina and it has been great so far. When I signed up for the lessons, I signed up with Gina because of her credentials as I never had an encounter with her. From my first class itself she has taught me a lot about acting specially stage acting and that too with great enthusiasm. I now feel like pursuing it further. She is quite knowledgeable specially in her field and every moment that you are in the class with her, you are learning something new. I would highly recommend her, doesn't matter if you are just getting into the field or trying to set your advanced level stage, her talents will teach you something new that would take you to the next level. I hope you can take advantage of learning from a Great Artist like Gina.
P.S. She is a great Dancer and a great Musician.

Good Luck!

Gina is amazingly dedicated, both to the material she teaches and to her students. She's knowledgeable and encouraging. I engaged her to teach ballet to me and a friend who was trying to use dance to work through some body issues. Gina navigated a tricky situation - two students at different levels, one with psychological barriers - beautifully, and we both learned loads. Definitely get her to teach you things!

Stephen H.

New York, NY

All levels welcome.
Can work on both theatre sides/monologues and film scenes/cold reads.
Focus is on consistency, spontaneity, character work, emotional connection, and use of frame for tv/film work.

About Stephen

Hi, I'm Stephen. I am a Vocal Technician and Trainer, Singer-songwriter, Acting Coach, and Career Consultant. I've been teaching for 15 years and I'm here to help you build your voice and tap into your artistry. :)
I have been singing since I was 3, anything and everything from Michael Jackson to Elvis Presley to Luciano Pavarotti. Originally from Colorado, I studied music/theatre, as well as vocal pedagogy at The University of Colorado at Boulder, where I graduated with highest honors. I made my Broadway debut in The Phantom of the Opera at age 24. I also performed in Chess in concert as a f
eatured rock tenor soloist at the New Amsterdam Theatre on Broadway with Josh Groban. I have understudied and performed lead roles in the first AEA National Tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Whistle Down the Wind. Regionally, I have played many lead roles all over the United States in productions including Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, The Wild Party, and She Loves Me. Currently I am recording my first pop/rock/neo-soul EP, building a TIYA Community, and focusing on SAG-AFTRA TV/Film projects. Recently, I booked lead roles in 4 SAG short films and was called back for producers for a Series Regular for "The Knick," an episodic series being produced and directed by Steven Soderbergh. My specialty is building, strengthening, and conditioning voices to unleash your authentic vocal timbre. My clients range from singer-songwriters, news anchors, dancers, comedians, CEO's, actors, as well as karaoke enthusiasts, and (aspiring) Broadway performers. They have performed on television in Smash, Glee, and venues around NYC ranging from The Underground, Le Poisson Rouge, Drom, Cornelia Street Cafe, Arlene’s Grocery, to the Broadway productions of Ghost, Sister Act, Evita, Wicked, West Side Story, South Pacific, The Phantom of the Opera, and Rent to name a few. I was a "belter" when I was a kid, trained classically for 6 years, and my journey has led me to create my own unique method combining speech level singing with bel canto techniques. You will see/hear/feel immediate results. My passion is storytelling and songwriting, and especially pop/rock.

*** Lesson Details ***
We will always work on whatever you want. As a vocal technician/trainer I am like going to the gym for your voice. My exercises are safe, simple, and most importantly, I teach you how to practice correctly. You may use my time however you wish (Voice, Acting, or Artistic/Career guidance). Most sessions will usually be a combination of vocal strengthening/ conditioning, and then exploring/performing a song. I also can work with you on film scenes, theatre monologues and ACTing the song. The key is to TAP into your Artistry. (Trust the Awareness and Play).

*** Studio Equipment ***
Yamaha Clavinova YDP-142 88-Key Digital Piano with Bench Black

Yamaha FG700S Acoustic Guitar

Bose Wave Music System

For online lessons:

2013 MacBook Pro 13-inch: 2.4GHz
with Retina display

iPhone 5S

*** Specialties ***
The vocal training method is uniquely my own as it combines both Bel Canto and Speech Level Singing. Emphasis is on developing a relaxed, released, authentic vocal timbre to sing in any style. Concepts explained and explored in my masterclasses and private lessons include utilizing the mask, developing resonance, 2 instruments in 1, posture, breath management, vocal cord adduction, trigger phrases, vocal placement, ring, consistency, and much more.

Stephen is a very thorough singing teacher. After 5 lessons, I know so much more about singing than I even thought there was to it. I already feel like I improved a tremendous amount, and I have fun in his classes. My range increased, my breath management improved, and the quality of my voice is also much nicer. I can only recommend Stephen.

Carolyn put together a dance routine for my mother and I to dance to at my wedding reception. It was a 4 song mix, which she researched and put together moves that were easy and unique to the songs. My mom and I had a blast learning them and dancing to them, and everyone at the reception was quite impressed! It was definitely a huge hit! I also need to add that this was all done on short notice with a very quick turnaround. Carolyn is a professional who cares!

Thank you Carolyn!
