Lynzi H.

Glendale, AZ

I gave my first singing lesson when I was 14 years old. It was then that I knew that I wanted to teach voice lessons. Growing up performing on stage, I fell in love with music. As I got older I knew I wanted to instill this same passion to others. If you do the exercises and techniques I teach you, you will continue to see improvement and you will be amazed at how your voice can develop.

Every person will start out with basics if they are a beginner: Diaphragmatic breathing (support), resonance (tone), and pitch. We will pick songs that you enjoy singing that is in your range, but I will also pick songs to challenge you to be better. If you don't know songs that would suite your voice, I will pick them for you based on your tone and range. Once we get the basics down we will begin to go into more advanced techniques such as vocal fry, controlling vibrato, and much more. I teach all styles of music and all ages.

About Lynzi

Hello everyone! I've been singing since the age of 3 and performing since the age of 6. I am not only an experienced music teacher with a passion for music and teaching, but an experienced performer, and songwriter. I started performing at a young age with the Columbia School of Theatrical Arts, and as I grew older I studied different techniques such as speech level singing, classical, and even techniques from Brett Manning, one of the most amazing vocal coaches today who teaches artists such as Haley Williams from Paramore. I have experience performing many styles of music, and also was a voi
ce major in college. The students I teach will benefit from my contemporary techniques, and can learn to sing in almost any style of music they choose.

*** Lesson Details ***
Do you want to learn how to sing your favorite song just like the artist? I can teach you the techniques! Or how about how to make a cover song your own based off of your own unique voice? We can work together to find, develop, and build the amazing qualities that you have in your voice. I will not only work on aspects of what you would like to improve on with your voice personally, but I will make an individual plan for you that will dramatically improve your voice! I will work with you individually to strengthen any weakness you may have in a fun environment. I am fun, encouraging and motivating! When asking students to do any vocal exercises, I will explain what the certain exercise does to improve your voice so that you can have the knowledge you need to be a good vocalist, and not just know how to sing properly. You will learn many things in lessons and what I teach you will vary on where you are vocally.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide a keyboard, CD, Boom box, music sheets, etc. Students do not need to provide anything.

*** Specialties ***
Speech level singing method, classical techniques, singing success, various genres including: pop, blues, contemporary, and musical theatre. I utilize the different techniques I have learned through proper classical training, but mix it with contemporary methods I have learned from speech level singing methods.

Lynzi spent enough time to get to know me and understand what I hoped to get from taking singing and piano lessons. We made a plan for the future, and got started right away. Since I am taking both piano and voice, I feel I may need to go to 60 minute lessons in the future.

We will work together to achieve your personal voice goals while learning various skills & techniques to make you a professionally trained, well rounded vocalist!

About Amy

My name is Amy and I teach Voice, Piano, and Music Theory! I am originally from Racine/Milwaukee, WI and have been a musician since I was young. I believe music is a universal language that connects us all on a deeper level. There is something so pure, beautiful, and genuine in music. It has the capability to move us to tears, feel empowered, or even break out in laughter. Sharing and connecting with others is what music is all about. I have loved music my entire life and enjoy bringing my passion and expertise to my students!

*** Lesson Details ***
Taking lessons is a fun and exciting exp
erience! However, learning to play an instrument (or sing) is not easy. It takes practice, focus, dedication, and hard work. We set up a plan at the beginning of lessons to ensure success!

Lessons are flexible, yet focused. It is important to set a routine and consistently stick to it if you want to see results. While I understand that we all have busy weeks, I do believe that consistent practice is essential to success.

Lessons are geared towards you as the student. We set up our lessons based on your musical goals. Voice Lessons: We begin here by focusing on building healthy singing habits, skill building, technique, range expansion, performing skills, diction, and expression. This is usually done from studying musical theater music. With musical theater, we get all the formal "classical rules" with a modern twist. From there we focus on the specialty each student is interested in - whether you want to audition for American Idol, prepare to major in voice in college, or be a Broadway star, we will focus on meeting your goals!

*Within 6 months you will see range expansion, improved accuracy & control, increase in breath control & capacity, as well as improved performance and expression skills!

**Musical theater book/cd purchase is required (discussed at first lesson). Students also need a notebook and pencil!

Piano Lessons: Studying classical piano will give you the tools and foundation that you need to pursue any other genre of music! Students will learn how to read and write music, hand position/posture, phrasing, texture, hand coordination & strength, discipline, music terms, dynamics, speed & accuracy, ear training, and much more through interactive lessons and games! Students will also learn a variety of music genres (including classical, jazz, musical theater, music in movies, rock and roll, and folk songs!).

*The level of success you see with piano is directly related to how much you practice. If you practice on a consistent basis, you will be reading music in both clefs (treble & bass) and playing both hands together within 6 months. **Alfred Piano Lesson book, Theory book, and Technic book are used. (purchase required). Students will also need a notebook and pencil. NOTES:

*Lessons are varied. You will learn all needed skills, but we will use various methods including worksheets, games, rhythm instruments, etc.

*** Studio Equipment ***
A piano keyboard is provided. Students are expected to bring their notebook, pencil, and method book(s) that we have been working out of.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have all supplemental things needed for lessons (worksheets, rhythm instruments, etc). I expect students to have the book(s) we are working out of, a metronome (or app), and the instrument needed (piano/keyboard).

*** Specialties ***
I usually use Alfred piano method books for piano. For other instruments/subjects I focus on gearing lessons toward the student.

Amy is wonderful!

I've been with Amy for just over a year now, having "0" experience in the beginning. I'm so glad that I found her. Amy is a great teacher. She's professional, talented and experienced, patient, flexible and super easy-going.
As a beginner, playing the piano can be challenging and frustrating. Amy is encouraging, even when I think I'm doing poorly. She identifies difficulties and explains/demonstrates helpful corrections. I have learned a lot in my first year and I highly recommend her as a teacher. Thank you, Amy!!

My kids love Amy!

My daughters are currently taking lessons with Amy to learn to play piano. They are really enjoying themselves and have learned so much already. Amy is very professional to work with and has a great method of teaching. She leaves specific instructions for what to work on every week. We are very happy to have found such a great source for music instruction!

Best Music Teacher Ever!

I have grown so much musically because of what I've learned from Miss Amy. She has taught me so much about my voice and being confident on stage, I even got a solo this year at school! I have learned a lot about diction, expanding my range, making a clear sound, and each class is so much fun!

Patti G.

Glendale, AZ

About Patti

I have 30 years of teaching experience and have enjoyed a successful singing, teaching and conducting career in the US and Australia. I have excellent piano skills and can sight-read and play most piano accompaniments for my voice students. No two students are alike so I teach everyone according to their needs and their learning style. I have an exceptional understanding of the voice and communicate using tangible imagery to produce excellent results. I work with all levels of singers from beginners to career level in Broadway, Pop and Classical styles. Beyond university training, I have had
training from teachers and coaches from the Metropolitan Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Arizona Opera and many others.
With piano, again, technique is important but lessons must be FUN! I like using innovative ideas and materials so that learning is exciting.

Practice is important for progress so the more you practice the faster you progress.

Because there is always more to learn, I continue to study and attend master-classes and workshops so I can be the best teacher I can be.

*** Lesson Details ***
I always want my students to leave their lessons knowing that they are better at the end of the lesson than they were at the beginning. Lessons are all about skill-building, so fundamentals of technique, theory and repertoire are included elements. I'm pretty laid back but know that practice is essential to progress. To that end, I always want my students to understand how to practice, not just what to practice. Practice doesn't make perfect, it makes permanent! My goal as a teacher is not just to help you achieve your goals, but to give you the ability to build on your own skills by knowing the how and the why, not just the what.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in the music room, 5'8" grand piano, computer, iPad, Apple TV, music stands, good lighting

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students must have a piano that is tuned and in good working order or a full 88-key weighted action keyboard. Voice students must provide a recording device. All students will be required to purchase music books.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in teaching the Italian school of "bel canto" singing. This technique provides complete connection of breath, voice and body and applies to all styles of singing.

For piano, I don't adhere to any one method. I teach practical, "real world" piano skills including playing chords and improvisation.

I have a Level 1 AZ Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Patti is a phenomenal musician and teacher

Patti is the most effective music teacher I have worked with. She has an intimate and readily communicated knowledge of vocal technique, and crucially, where problems can arise. She has an intuitive awareness of the voice in a way that can only come from extensive professional experience in performance and education. In a relatively short space of time I have learnt a great deal and grown vocally beyond what I thought I would be capable of.

I cannot recommend Patti highly enough.

Nanette G.

Tolleson, AZ

I bring the voice out of the throat and avoid straining. as the muscles develop correctly, sound and vocal agility improve drastically.

About Nanette

I started studying piano and singing from a very young age. I used to make my friends come over and watch me perform (karaoke style--before karaoke was big) when i was in the 4th grade. My greatest love is music, performing music, and sharing it with others. As a singer i have studied all types of music, but my favorite- and what i excel at- is opera.

I have taken private voice and piano lessons constantly since the age of 5, and have studied opera performance and music theory in college. I perform locally around the community as a singer, direct the church choir, and occasionally
accompany soloists on the piano. I have taught private lessons in voice and piano for 5 years and i greatly enjoy the one on one experience of teaching private lessons.

*** Lesson Details ***
I want my students to enjoy the time they spend with me. I believe in a very relaxed, comfortable environment, where students feel they can express themselves, but it is still an environment where time is maximized. In piano, 10-15 min is devoted to theory, scales, and chords, then we work on songs, some of my choosing and some of the students choosing. In voice we spend about 10-15 minutes on warm-ups and the rest of the time is devoted to songs. Again, there are songs that i choose for the students according to the needs of their voice and development, but i also allow the student to bring things he/she wants to learn for fun.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a sound system and microphone. i have my iPod hooked up to the sound system to play karaoke music.

*** Specialties ***
In piano I am partial to the John Thompson method. I also spend a portion of each lesson on scales and music theory.
In voice, I specialize in bel canto. The most beautiful sounds come when you are not straining the voice. I work on getting it out of the throat and into the mask.

**i do not recommend every other week lessons. take lessons does offer them, but i have not seen many students thrive or progress with that much time in between lessons.

Mollie K.

Phoenix, AZ

About Mollie

I have been a musician all my life -- started learning the piano at age 3. I am classically trained, was going to be a concert pianist, but then when I became 18, I realized that I wanted to explore other genres of music. I have played big band jazz, was in a professional original rock band and played on the stage with many famous rock musicians, have played with many different bands in almost every style of music (including hip hop), and am an accomplished studio musician as well. I love music, period. I also am a percussionist and vocal coach. I also can teach church musicians to play
"outside the hymnal." (I have played in almost every kind of church, including gospel)

*** Lesson Details ***
I am very laid back, I use a variety of curriculums and methods, depending on what is needed by the student. My goal is to help you learn what YOU want to learn. If you are are parent reading this, my goal is to help your student learn what they want to learn as well...I will discuss it with you, but the bottom line is that your student is the one who will be learning. I know through experience that music students only really learn what they want to learn.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Grand piano

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect them to have an acoustic piano or an electric piano

*** Specialties ***
My specialty is finding out what works for the student, and making sure they learn what it is they wanted to learn. I use a variety of methods and curriculums depending upon the student. I am very good at helping church pianists learn how to play "outside the hymnal" -- helping people learn how to play from chord charts or how to read music and learn all the scales and chords, etc. I can help teach people that play by ear how to play from written music. Another specialty is helping people to develop relative pitch, and ear training in general.

Mollie has taught children of all ages and is extremely patient and effective with them. Making Music Fun For Everyone!

Mollie is a great instructor with a great knowledge base. She genuinely wants everyone to enjoy music as much as she does. She cares enough to mold the lessons around her students, i.e. if one wants to learn a particular song first, then that is what happens. She makes it fun too. She is kind, patient, and very humble. She knows music, to the core and back again. It has been a real honor to have been able to study with Mollie. If you need someone who can play the entire music genre, classic piano to the latest hits on the radio, Jazz Standards to Improvisational Masterpieces, Mollie is tops.

Mollie is the one piano teacher who was able to get through to me and make it so it was easy and fun to use my left hand. She is patient, and very knowledgeable. Even though I came to her as an adult, I've observed her interacting with children of different ages over the years and she always treats people with respect and dignity.
