A native of Washington DC, Scott has performed for over 45 years in various shows, bands & theaters. He has worked with The Glenn Miller Orchestra and The Modernaires; The Peter Duchin Orchestra; The Ink Spots; The Tokens; Rory (Disney Channel); Charlie Byrd; Susannah McCorkle; Keely Smith & John Colianni (accompanist for Mel Torme) to name a few. He has also toured for the USO with Miss USA in Europe 85’ (With an 18 year old Halle Berry) and Miss USA in Central America 86’. Besides playing a in few theater pits, Scott has also performed on the stage as a musical character in the Kennedy Center’s ‘92 production of “Pump Boys & Dinettes”, taking the role of inbred “Eddie” to new lows. I have been teaching private lessons for close to 10 years and have been an active performer for even longer, playing in all different types of groups, from rock bands and jazz groups to orchestras and brass bands. I studied music at Frostburg State University (Bachelors) and the Peabody Conservatory (Masters). I can teach just about any age and skill level and cover anything you are interested in learning; whether its a certain style, genre, technique or song. *** Lesson Details *** My lessons are laid back, with a focus on perfecting the basics. Most students work out of a method book appropriate to their skill level. Aside from that we'll also spend time learning songs and pieces of the students choice. Originally from North Pole Alaska, Scott M. has been playing the tuba since the age of nine. While in high school Scott was in virtually every brass ensemble at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. In 2006 Scott enrolled at the Peabody Conservatory of Music on a merit scholarship where he studied with Toby Hanks and Baltimore Symphony’s David Fedderly, eventually earning both his Bachelors and Masters in Music Performance. While at Peabody Mr. M. performed extensively with the Peabody Symphony, the Peabody Wind Ensemble, and several brass choirs. In addition to these Scott performed with brass quintets every year while he was at Peabody and received the Grace Clagett Ranney Prize in chamber music on completion of his Master’s degree. I help all my students develop a good attitude toward playing music, as well as setting them up for success in developing a good sound and technique. I have helped students prepare for all situations, including auditions, adjudications, and yearly band concerts.
Hello! I have played brass instruments in many different ensembles over the last 15 years, including concert bands, jazz ensembles, brass quintets, marching bands, drum and bugle corps, and more, and I would like to share these experiences with you as you build your own rewarding experiences with music. I attended Hofstra University and The Hartt School, earning a B.S. in Music Education and a M.M. in Euphonium Performance, respectively. I am available for students of all ages and backgrounds, and will attend to the goals of each student separately and deliberately.
