Erin W.

Portland, OR

Learn to develop a healthy technique for singing with proper vowels, breathing, space, and placement. Gain confidence in your voice and sing the songs you love!

About Erin

I have a Master's in Vocal Performance from Portland State University, and over a decade of vocal training and performance experience.

I teach voice lessons to kids, teenagers, and adults.

My voice students range in ability from absolute beginner to intermediate with significant previous musical and vocal training. I have helped the beginning students learn to match pitch and read notes on the staff. My voice students learn to sing with purer vowels, increased breath support, and use a greater range.

I also teach beginning piano to all ages. I teach students as young as 5 as long as t
hey are able to stay focused for the duration of a half hour lesson. Most of my piano students are in the 7 -10 range, but I teach some beginning adults as well.

*** Lesson Details ***
Voice students will learn to improve their technique through proper breathing, correct vowels, space, and resonance. I teach repertoire based on the students' interest, but I am well versed in classical and operatic repertoire in English, French, German, and Italian, as well as some musical theatre and jazz. I also teach pop songs for those who are interested. I can help you improve your technique for whatever style of music you want to sing.

Piano students will learn to read music, play with correct form, learn scales, and improve their musicianship skills. I teach out of lesson books (mostly Faber) to improve technique, but I want students to learn supplemental pieces that are fun for them as well.

I hope to share with you the same joy I get from making music!

*** Studio Equipment ***
My studio at home has a piano, my music library, a large mirror for aiding the student in observing their vocal habits.

*** Travel Equipment ***
For in home lessons, students will need to have a keyboard or a piano in a space free of distractions. Students should have a neat, three ring binder to hold all of their music.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in teaching classical art songs and musical theatre.

Charity M.

Beaverton, OR

Whether recreationally or professionally we'll expand repertoire to display versatility, work on aural skills (sight singing, intervals, dictation), theory and musicality.

About Charity

The body is an incredible instrument that we use to speak, to rock out, walk, boogie, express, signify and croon. The body can captivate audiences or communicate to a friend. A person can personally and professionally take flight, gaining confidence through becoming familiar with themselves, their bodies and their artistry.

Charity ran away with both opera and the circus.Their vocal skill continues to take them on the jazz, theater and classical stages like Portland Opera and Opera Theater Oregon.

Combining both disciplines of music and cirque is one of their favorite things. They are
a previous resident artist and troupe liaison of Sky Circus, a continuing guest member with Wanderlust Circus, Caravan of Glam and instructor at Echo Theater

Highly skilled and great with kids. Looking forward to more lessons. While I'm just there with my kids (not taking lessons myself), I have found her warmup techniques more effective for me than what I picked up from two years of competitive high school choirs where i had an excellent voice instructor.

Kayla is very informative and descriptive about how the body works in producing sound. She not only showed technique but also gave some easy tips on how to improve. Best of all, I finally understand how a raspy sound can occur without damaging the voice! This is a thing I've found difficulty in finding online, in a way that does not damage your vocal cords. All in all, a fun teacher and I recommend her, especially if you like rock/metal as she seems to have a great knowledge of this form of vocals.

Parvaneh G.

Lake Oswego, OR

Have fun while learning sound vocal technique! My lessons are for the budding professional as well as the person who just wants a creative outlet. You will get to choose the repertoire you work on, in addition to some songs that I will choose for you. I am a classically trained singer who is comfortable teaching students of all kinds. Healthy vocal technique will always come first, but my students will also learn ear training & theory. Let's develop your voice together!

About Parvaneh

Hello! My name is Parvaneh and I am a voice and piano teacher with over 20 years of classical music study. I grew up in the Portland area and studied piano for 10 years before focusing on vocal arts full-time. At 18, I moved to California to study vocal performance at UC Santa Barbara, earning my Bachelor of Music degree with honors. I excelled in ear training and music theory while at UCSB and performed in numerous operas and choirs, including as the alto section leader of the Santa Barbara Choral Society. After graduating college, I decided to pursue other interests professionally, but have
maintained my status as a professional vocalist with jobs as a paid section leader at several churches. Currently, I am the alto section leader at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Portland.

I believe in nurturing the individuality in each student and encouraging healthy vocal technique. My areas of expertise include: diction/translation, Alexander Technique, ear training and theory.

Hayley worked for me as an Individual Voice instructor at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) in New York City. Her students progressed rapidly, absolutely loved her, and gave her the highest rankings. Her knowledge of vocal technique and classical and musical theatre repertoire are extensive and I highly recommend her to anyone who wants to strengthen their vocal technique and explore new repertoire.

Hayley has such a wide range of profound technic and knowledge in so many different styles of singing (From Opera, classical musicals to contemporary musical theatre etc.) that will absolutely help you get to the finest versatility of your vocal abilities as possible. Not to mention with her great phonetic skills, which if you are international student like me, you could get a lot of help from performing in Standard American accent. Also feedback on acting skills while singing if you sing and act as well :) She is a whole package and I feel so grateful to have had her as my individual voice teacher for she has got me so far in such short amount of time in terms of technique.

I had the pleasure of working with Hayley during our contract a board the Disney Dream! As our vocal captain, I turned to her to help me maintain and improve my technique. She was even able to help me through a cold that wreaked havoc on my vocal cords. Not only did she remind me of proper technique, but she coached me gently back to good and healthy sound production after my sickness.
