Jill H.

Winter Springs, FL

Learn to sing with posture, breath and enunciation. Practice the skills needed to have a voice for life. Learn songs and exercises to strengthen your voice.

About Jill

Jill holds a Bachelor's degree in Music Education and has master's work in choral music. For many years she has taught private and group music lessons to all ages and many varying styles of singing and instrumental music. Her lessons are unlike the ones she remembers from childhood; Jill's lessons are full of creativity, fun and excitement. It is amazing how students improve with each lesson. Jill brings more than just technique to the studio, she strives to find the best in each student and then concentrates on improving each individual's strengths and then delves into ways to correct th
e weaknesses.

Since Jill is a vocal soloist, instrumentalist, accompanist and director, she knows what it takes to prepare and rehearse and therefore she makes it clear which concept the student will be working on during the lesson. With an instrumental and choral background, Jill brings music to life and then shares with the students how to keep music in their lives forever. Many students who had vocal problems have achieved vocal success after taking several lessons with Jill and learning to keep their voices healthy for the rest of their lives.

Jill has worked with children, teens and adults in many schools, churches and after school programs that she designed. Her success with students who are very young or students who come with disabilities or autistic spectrum diagnosis are moved by the music Jill creates. With the help of the ORFF-SCHULWERK certification, Jill has many ways of reaching children through the use of instruments, rhythm activities, games and other fun ways of learning. Breaking barriers is Jill's best asset, she will not quit until the student has an understanding of the instrument or his/her voice.

The young and the older adults find that taking lessons with Jill has brought them to a place of realizing their potential. Successful stories include pre-school age through students who are retired. The length of time one studies depends on the student's practice and diligence. Many students have started with Jill in preschool or elementary school and have continued through high school and college. Several college age students wanted to improve their singing or instrumental skills so goals were set and met through Jill's successful teaching ability.

Many of Jill's students have become better musicians and many have chosen music professions for their careers. Several students have won contests, auditioned for parts in musicals, started local bands and have become songwriters and performers after taking lessons with Jill.

"Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers, plans succeed. " (Proverbs 15:22) It is Jill's belief that with her teaching qualifications and past record of success with student achievement and great experience studying with wonderful advisers, teaching YOU or YOUR CHILD will be one of success!

*** Lesson Details ***
Jill's teaching technique is flexible. Some students require a stern and strict approach while others seem to work best with more creative license. Jill is open to each student's needs. When booking lessons with Jill, one will find that the first thing she will do is find out more about the student's needs and desires to succeed in their chosen instrument.

Because of her flexible approach, method books vary depending on the student's need to succeed. Sometimes young students will need to review several beginning methods until their reading skills are achieved. For the young students, Jill teaches theory and gives the young students time during the lesson to explore musical symbols and try their hands at improvisation, rhythms, manuscripts and creativity.

Some students may desire to learn to play "by ear" or through improvisational skills. Jill is very good with improv and her song writing skills are strong. When a student desires to write music, Jill is there to help with questions about time signatures, note values, key signatures and transpositions.

Taking lessons with Jill is a journey that those who have tried have not had regrets. Several parents and past students would be happy to tell you how their talents and gifts improved after working with Jill for a few months. After three months of working together, Jill will know how to pursue the student's musical career. After 6 months the student will be able to play complete songs and have a sense of basic music theory. The hope is for the student to be confident of their instrument's abilities.

Several of Jill's students have taken their skills, gifts and talents to the professional level. Students who have studied with Jill are professional music directors in high schools, middle schools, elementary schools, churches, soloists and some who are in school studying music as their major. Taking lessons with Jill will be something that will add value to the student's life forever because MUSIC is her life! Without music, the world would be a very dull place and individuals would be unhappy and depressed in every walk of life. Music brings out the beauty of creation and man's ability to skillfully play an instrument for pleasure or for one's occupation.

Jill is a wonderful teacher. She is patient and creative in teaching, good at communicating her musical ideas with children. My son progressed a lot under her instruction. We really hate to say goodbye to her because we have to leave America. Her classes are part of our best memories here.

Singing is an expression of your passion and of your soul. Your voice is a beautiful instrument, and is unique to each and every person. I focus on helping students find their own voice, and develop it with passion and technique, to reach the heights they seek while still maintaining quality of tone.

About Jesse

Hi, My name is Jesse. I discovered my passion in music when I was 15 and saw another student playing guitar in school. Ever since I received my first guitar at age 16, I was hooked. Not a day went by that I didn't pick up the instrument and pour my energy and soul into my playing.

I specialize in teaching students how to unleash their creativity while also following a disciplined learning method. Music is meant to be fun, creative, and expressive, and I help students find this passion. After discovering their passion, practice and honing their skills will lead to more professional ventures
and possibly a career!

Specialties: Guitar, Leads, Rhythms, Fingerpicking, Solos, Improvisation, Recording, Songwriting.

I make sure my students have a wonderful time and are excited to want to keep playing and not put their instrument down.

*** Lesson Details ***
I was five years old when I discovered my singing voice. My youthful curiosity soon blossomed into a passion for musical expression through voice, violin, piano, and guitar. Now, my mission is to share the musical exploration that has enriched my life by fostering my students' desires to express themselves through music.

As a teacher, I focus equally on formal technique and artistic expression. Mastering correct form provides the foundation upon which a student’s capacity for the latter may grow. Techniques used during lessons are designed to develop a holistic understanding of music through aural, visual, and tactile cues. These include ear training, sight-reading, improvisation and using touch and visualization to navigate the instrument. Progress is evaluated by developing a set of goals specific to each student. I find that allowing students input in originating goals facilitates a cooperative learning environment and allows me to tailor lessons to a student's interests, strengths and learning preferences. Providing students with a plan to succeed inspires a drive to learn and sense of achievement. I encourage students to play their instruments daily. Through consistent practice, students will benefit from increased discipline, patience, creativity and self-esteem. Students are rewarded with the chance to share what they've learned at recitals held biannually. My philosophy is that mistakes are opportunities for improvement. For the duration of our lesson, my students are in a private, nurturing zone of free expression. Join me in an exploration of personal talent and creativity!

In singing lessons, you will learn about the facets of the human vocal instrument and how to use your voice in a healthy and pleasant way. Emphasis is placed on healthy singing habits such as proper breathing, accessing/connecting head and chest voice, and pitch matching.

About Monica

My first priority is instilling a love for the arts into any student I teach. No matter what the skill level is, I want my students to love music and learning. I believe in setting the students up for success while also challenging them to be their best.
My experience as a classroom teacher is useful in helping me understand different types of students and cater to their individual needs and learning styles. I have experience teaching both private piano and voice, as well as experience in putting together recitals and stage shows. I have a degree in music from the University of Cent
ral Florida, which has allowed me to receive a great deal of musical education as well as hands-on experience in teaching methods.
A student of mine will not only learn techniques specific to their instrument, but also a more broad range of music theory and performance knowledge which will apply to any other musical endeavor they may wish to pursue.

*** Lesson Details ***
I offer a relaxed environment where students will be given new challenges and information without feeling pressured or stressed out. I want to make learning fun while also giving them a firm grasp on the techniques and practices. I use a variety of music books and series such as Piano Adventures, but I also like to find out what type of music the student is interested in playing and cater the curriculum to their needs. After 2 months of piano lessons, most of my students will know the basics of reading music/music theory and basic practice techniques. After 6 months, they will be able to read and play a piece of music on their own. Depending on the level of skill and hard work, students can progress quickly and they will love showing off their new skills to their friends and families.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide a keyboard if necessary, but prefer that the students have their own.

*** Specialties ***
"Head voice" singing for children, sight reading practices for piano, Broadway singing and performance, opera singing and performance

I'm a college sophomore with absolutely no background in music. I decided I needed a hobby so I looked into TakeLessons, and I am extremely glad I did! Monica is an amazing teacher. She knows exactly what she is doing and can basically work with every situation. She is also so approachable and easy to talk to that the lessons are actually fun! I learned so much in just two months, it's unbelievable! I recommend it to anyone at any age to give lessons with Monica a try, I guarantee you that you won't be disappointed.

First lesson: assessment and getting to know your level. Lessons begin with warm ups then technique, theory then song piece. Choose your style or genre of music to pick which song book you desire for home practices. Recitals are a great way to gain live experience and confidence. These are optional and offered twice a year. Please note: a Minimum of 45 minutes is needed for singing. 20-25 are used for technique, then 20 minutes for song. If and hour class then 30-35 for song or two songs. 30 minute class will be difficult to accomplish technique and song.

About Jessica

I am a singer, actress, composer, author, and teacher. After graduating from the University of Central Florida with a Music Degree, I landed a singing position with a 14-piece band traveling throughout the USA and internationally. I also performed in various Musical Theatre Productions. I sing many genres, even acapella groups in Major Theme Parks. Now I am taking on new students to share my experience and help advance your careers.

Jessica is an outstanding piano instructor. I could never read music before I started taking lessons just a few months ago. Now I am very happy with the progress Jessica has helped me make in such a short amount of time . She really has a joy for teaching music and a passion for the craft. She does whatever it takes to find out what works best for each individual student and teaches accordingly. Learning how to read music can be a scary and difficult task, especially as a an adult, but Jessica keeps it relaxed and fun. I would recommend her as an instructor for anyone looking to improve their skills or just looking to start learning for the very first time. She is a genuine soul, and a great teacher.
