I begin by seeing students as unique individuals first, and my students second. Then we proceed along a unique curriculum based around their personal passion for music. I pride myself on helping my students by truly getting to know them and their challenges so they may achieve free, easy, and fun music making!
I am pursuing my Master's Degree at the University of South Carolina. I have a specialty in Classical playing but my roots are in electric, singer/songwriter pop, rock, and blues.

I have found it is not uncommon for beginners to lose heart as the early stages of musical development tend to have their challenges. However my experience has taught me that with a great teacher anyone can make music making a part of their life! I started with a very strong technical background as a Computer Science undergraduate at CMU and have moved entirely into the role of teacher/tutor/mentor. I have a very wide array of teaching and tutoring experience, especially in Math and Science, and have had success with virtually every student. My approach is very personable: I pride myself in getting to know my students' learning preferences and tailoring my style to suit them. I'm very patient and always looking to make tutoring fun as well as productive.
I grew up around Atlanta, GA and started playing piano when I was around 7 years old and bass when I was 11. Most of my education has been on the upright bass. I've studied classical bass performance at major music schools on the east coast and in the midwest. I've studied and worked with musicians from many of the great orchestras around the world. I enjoy working with students who are just coming to the bass or piano for the first time and getting them started with music in a rewarding way as well as more advanced students that need finer musical direction or audition coaching. *** Lesson Details *** I try to keep a relaxed environment while still being motivating and inspiring. My name is Eric . I have been playing guitar for over 17 years. I was taught by Wayne Bartley and classically trained by Irvin Kauffmann of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. I am currently finishing a degree in Musical Composition at the University Of Pittsburgh. I am a singer / songwriter / lead guitarist and very proficient in Pro Tools. I play in the Pittsburgh based band August Ruins and have taught students of all ages and genders. I am primarily a rock / metal guitarist but can teach any style. The way that I teach is simple, the student decides what they would like to learn and I model my lessons around them to keep it fun. The student will not only learn how to play songs but how the guitar works, music theory, songwriting and how to read tab / notation.
