Jill Z.

Huntington Beach, CA

Students can start from the very beginning or come in to improve technique, sound, skills, ear training, intonation, and reading music. Students work on scales, exercises for tone and coordination, vibrato, solos, audition music, and orchestral music. I can recommend many youth orchestras in the area. Some of my students work on auditions and music for All Southern Youth Orchestra and All State Youth Orchestras. I go at the student's pace and also start out many beginners. Students learn to sight read and practice rhythm exercises to prepare for orchestra auditions and playing with other musicians.

About Jill

Jill's first violin student was in 1998-1999 and began teaching steadily ever since 2002 with annual recitals for students.

She can help you with your goals whether it be playing music for fun, joining a classical orchestra, college auditions, or learning music theory!

Jill is currently available to teach violin, viola, piano, or music theory lessons in her Huntington beach studio.

Students will learn using a combination of the Suzuki method, fun books with pop or movie music, and other method books.

Piano students study from the Faber & Faber books, Snell, Hanon exercises, and sc
ale books.

Violin and viola students use Suzuki, Wolfahrt etudes, Bach Sonata & Paritat, Carl Flesch scales, other etude books and Sassmanshaus for young violin students. String students also learn how to shift out of 1st position and learn to tune.

Private violin students can participate in the Certificate of Merit program testing in Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach.

Students also learn to read music and learn rhythm.

Jill has 2 optional recitals per year for students.

Jill can help students with orchestra auditions.

She has helped students get into All State and All Southern Youth Orchestras, join an orchestra that toured Europe, helped students with Certificate of Merit, and auditions and acceptance into the Orange County High School of the Arts.

She has taught at various music studios and coached music at high schools and middle schools in orange county.

Jill graduated with her Bachelor's of Music Degree in Performance Violin and Viola from the Cole Conservatory of Music at the California State University, Long Beach where she also studied piano and also studied jazz improv and theory at Saddleback College.

She performs classical, pop music, and jazz and plays reggae music, top hits, movie music, and rock for professional violin events.

Jill also is classically trained and plays in professional orchestras like Dana Point Symphony and Symphony Irvine.

Jill is patient and has a variety of students and able to adjust to each student's personality and needs.

Jill has performed as a solo violinist at the Orange County Fair in 2007 and 2008 with a Bluegrass band and was a concerto competition winner in 2004 performing Haydn's Violin Concerto No. 2 with the South Orange County Chamber Orchestra as a soloist.

Angela C.

Long Beach, CA

Experienced teacher of 30 years available for eager students of all experience levels and ages. I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of classical skill. I specialize in classical music and provide multiple playing opportunities for my students throughout the year.

About Angela

EDUCATION

My musical education began while sitting on my mother's lap as she taught piano lessons. I began studying cello with a member of the Kansas City Philharmonic at age 9, and at age ten, I followed in my mother's footsteps to play the flute. I played all three instruments, (piano, cello and flute) until high school when it was became clear to me that I wanted to be an orchestra teacher. With this dream in mind, I began playing the violin as well.
I graduated from Drake University with a Bachelor's in Music Education in 1989 and again in 1999 with a Master's degree.

PERFORMANCE
EXPERIENCE

As a youngster, I was the youngest member of the Kansas City Youth Symphony and the Kansas City Cello Choir performing with these two groups for eight years. I was chosen from applicants nation wide, to perform in Carnegie Hall and travel Europe with "America's Youth in Concert" and I was a three time All-Stater.

While attending Drake University, I played in the Drake University Orchestra and the Des Moines Symphony, and I was the winner of the Young Artist Competition awarding me the honor as featured soloist with the Drake Symphony Orchestra.
In 1993 I began playing with the Encore String Trio. This trio plays on a regular basis for weddings and receptions.
I currently play cello in the Encore String Trio, and viola in the Long Beach Community Orchestra.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

My teaching experience includes nearly 30 years of private teaching. I've had the pleasure of teaching all areas of music; elementary general music, band, choir and orchestra. During my 20 years of teaching orchestra in the public schools, I implemented many innovative opportunities for my students such as children's concert which drew more than 700 people in attendance, strolling strings, cello choir and a viola choir, all of which proved to be very motivational for the students. My goal of teaching is to make music fun for all.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe music should be fun. I provide you with several playing opportunities throughout the year, ranging from solo to group playing. I provide large group playing opportunities at Christmas and at the recitals. Every group playing opportunity is accompanied with food and games for all. This studio is FUN!

*** Lesson Details ***
Whether you are studying for recitals, competitions, a music career or just for fun, you can expect equal attention to technique and musicianship in your lessons.
Lessons will be tailored to each students needs which may include flash cards, supplemental materials, ear training, sight reading, technical studies, scales, and solo work.
You are never to old to learn to play an instrument. Over half of my students are adult beginners. Because of this, I provide group playing opportunities and I organize a solo ensemble contest for my students. This gives opportunities to the adult beginners that they missed out on as a child. You will have a lesson by yourself, monthly mini recitals in my studio, and you will have the opportunity to play orchestra music as a group all right here in my studio. You are guaranteed to learn how to play your instrument, have fun and gain great friendships here in this studio. I'm looking forward to introducing you to our studio family.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The teachers studio is in a large room with multiple windows for natural light. The room includes instruments and stands in the middle of the room.

*** Specialties ***
I use the Suzuki method books. I am a classical player and I teach classical music.

Lessons with me...

I'm passionate about music and its many benefits, both academically, emotionally, and physically. I love to share my joy with my students in a fun, collaborative way that is professional and enjoyable. The pace is determined by the goals of the student, and materials are tailor-made to suit your preferences. Classical instruction is essential for proper technique, but branching out to Celtic fiddle or movie soundtracks is a definite option!

I recommend weekly lessons, and daily practice should be equivalent to the length of the lesson. Younger students should do 30-minute lessons, but around 8-years old, I generally start to recommend 45-60 minute lessons. Serious students preferred.

Ms. Tasha's exceptional enthusiasm for music shines through in her playing and her unique teaching style. She teaches violin to my daughters and she is a great teacher who is very knowledgeable about the music world. Her lessons are engaging and helpful to move further; she communicates in a way that anyone can understand and does all she can to help them be successful. She teaches at a level that is appropriate for both my daughters and goes out of her way to help each one of them play and comprehend music better.

Sara J.

Los Angeles, CA

Viola lessons will consist of learning great skill and musicality. Students are expected to always play scales and etudes to help form the foundation of great playing. I also encourage students to play musically, meaning I want them to bring out the emotion of the piece. Beginners will use method books such as Essential Elements and the Suzuki books to learn basic repertoire. I use a traditional approach, so I won't use the Suzuki style of teaching. After I feel the student is improving with these beginning method books I will start to incorporate traditional scale and etude books, along with pieces that pertain to the level they are at.

About Sara

Sara J originated from Pasadena, CA where she began her musical studies at the age of 7. Not only was she involved with her school's music programs, she performed with groups such as the Crown City Symphony (formerly known as the Crown City Chamber Players) and the Pasadena Summer Youth Chamber Orchestra, and took violin lessons for five years with violin instructor Roberta Wilcox.

After transferring from Pasadena City College, (studying with, violinist and conductor, Andrei Ganea and, member of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Paul Stein) she received her Bachelor's of Music degree in Perform
ance from the University of Redlands under the instruction of Pavel Farkas. In April 2014, she graduated from the Master's of Music program at the University of Redlands earning a degree in Violin Performance under the instruction of Jeanne Skrocki.

She has performed with orchestras like the Coachella Valley Symphony, Redlands Symphony Orchestra, and Pasadena Summer Youth Chamber Orchestra. She is also involved in a Piano Trio and has performed as a Colonial Fiddle Musician on Riley’s Farm in Oak Glen at the Hawk’s Head Tavern. You may also find Sara playing many events as part of a string quartet throughout the Coachella Valley, Inland Empire, and Los Angeles county.

Ms. J is very passionate for music and tries to instill that same passion into her students by teaching them both the technicality and musicality of different pieces. She believes that when one learns how to play an instrument, one must also learn the principles of music in general. When a musician knows every facet of a piece they are playing, performing the music becomes a deeper experience for the performer and audience, whether that piece be a Beethoven Concerto or Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. She strives to help the students become very knowledgeable, not only in playing the violin itself, but also in music theory, history, ear training, wise practicing, and performance etiquette.

Anna K.

Irvine, CA

I want to provide students with the opportunity to do and achieve anything they desire with music and become well-rounded musicians. My goal is to enable students to make music independently and become self-sufficient learners. As a result, students can enjoy music for their own playing and/or choose to become professional musicians.

About Anna

I have over 20 years of experience in teaching viola and violin students of all ages and levels. And I have knowledge of Piano and Music Theory as well. I have been a member of MTAC (Music Teachers’ Association of California) since 2005, and I currently serve as string chair as well as second vice president of South Coast Branch - MTAC. I am also a member of SYMF (Southwestern Youth Music Festival), so I enter many talented students pursuing music into the CM (Certificate of Merit) test, violin or viola competitions and auditions every year.
