His passion for scoring further grew while interning at Hans Zimmer's studio complex, Remote Control Productions, under Michael Levine.

He was also granted a scholarship to the CSU Summer Arts Media Scoring program. Joe is now finishing his last year at the Bob Cole Conservatory at California State University, Long Beach. While at CSULB he has had the privilege to study with Perry La Marca, a veteran composer and orchestrator of Los Angeles and a former student of Bruce Broughton and John Williams. Joe is a fun, professional and talented teacher! He gave me advice and etudes that really helped me play interesting breaks at gigs. Have your questions and goals ready to tell him, and he will give you exactly what you need to sound better. He is very intuitive and understanding, and he will use every minute of your time efficiently with practical exercises that work. He was also very responsible, dependable, easy to reach and punctual. I'm scheduling more lessons with him!

Brenton K.

Los Angeles, CA

I picked up the fiddle a few years ago. It's much smaller than the bass, but utilizes many of the same principals in performance. I play with my youth orchestra - Santa Monica Youth Orchestra - every week and help the section sound more cohesive.

Once you start shifting a whole bunch, we'll get you off to a more experienced fiddle player.

About Brenton

"Music is the best!" --Frank Zappa

That is the only thing I can claim to know for certain.

My ideals as a teacher are sound control, fun, and community. I teach all of my students how to play their instrument in a manner which they understand and enjoy. I demonstrate how much fun music can be once my student has the facility to create sound freely. And I inspire them to use this gift for bringing people closer together.

Since beginning my musical studies at California State University Northridge, I have been working as a musician in the greater Los Angeles area. Now over a decade
later, I continue to perform and teach - enjoying the whole ride wherever it takes me. While my primary instruments are Contrabass and Electric Bass Guitar, I have technical know how on a wide variety of instruments. Some of these include the violin, guitar, and piano.

I'm also happy to teach students who already have technical facility are interested in learning about things like musicality, melodic phrasing, harmonic analysis, rhythmic accuracy, ear training, reading in various clefs, improvisation, and much more.

Let's jam!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can bring whatever I need to a lesson, but I expect all of my students to take the initiative to have all necessary equipment for playing. That being said, if a problem ever arises in the procuring of this equipment, I am always happy to help in anyway that I can.

Brenton is just terrific with my 8 year old son who is a beginner. He makes it fun for Gus and my kid actually comes home from violin / fiddle lessons saying "It was awesome!". He then will actually practice at home-- and Gus is normally one lazy kid. I observed one lesson where they laughed through it even as my kid learned. Parents or nanny are welcome to sit in on the lesson or hang out in the comfortable living room just a few feet away. Brenton obviously is really at ease with kids and kids respond to him equally well.

Devin K.

Pasadena, CA

Proficient in Jazz, and Folk styles with a background in improvisation. Taught by reading music and by rote.

About Devin

I have been involved in music my entire life, and I love sharing my knowledge with others. I began taking vocal lessons from the age of 9 and have studied a variety of genres such as Musical Theatre, Jazz, Classical, Rock and Roll, and Folk. I studied Voice Performance at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA.

I have been playing the violin for 16 years, and was classically trained from the start. I was involved in the Award-winning Sacramento Youth Symphony for several years before heading to Berklee. I was a member of Berklee's Contemporary Orchestra, and was involved in string quart
ets, Celtic ensembles, and led my own band. During college I branched out to fiddle styles such as Jazz, Celtic, and Folk, and became known for my improvisational ability.

Since moving to the West Coast, I have performed at venues including House of Blues Sunset, The Viper Room, The Hard Rock Cafe, The Pasadena Playhouse, and more. I am an accomplished songwriter, utilizing voice, violin, and ukulele in my arrangements.

My vocal instruction style varies based on the genre my students wish to pursue, and I have had excellent results. One student went on to tour in the international company of Bring It On - The Musical.

As a violin teacher, I instruct in the traditional style, and highly believe in a solid basis in reading music. As a fiddle teacher, I teach both from the page and by rote, and focus heavily on rhythm. I am happy to provide references from current students, if needed.
