Joe S. is a composer for media and concert music as well as an active performer around the LA area. He was born and raised in Santa Monica, California, where his musical family introduced him to the violin, his first instrument. His command of a diverse palette of styles and techniques can be attributed to playing several instruments, singing, and dabbling in many ensembles of different genres. Joe is currently in his last year at the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University, Long Beach and will shortly receive a degree in Music Composition. His music has been featured in films, jingles, animations, and more.
I picked up the fiddle a few years ago. It's much smaller than the bass, but utilizes many of the same principals in performance. I play with my youth orchestra - Santa Monica Youth Orchestra - every week and help the section sound more cohesive.
Once you start shifting a whole bunch, we'll get you off to a more experienced fiddle player.
"Music is the best!" --Frank Zappa That is the only thing I can claim to know for certain. My ideals as a teacher are sound control, fun, and community. I teach all of my students how to play their instrument in a manner which they understand and enjoy. I demonstrate how much fun music can be once my student has the facility to create sound freely. And I inspire them to use this gift for bringing people closer together. Since beginning my musical studies at California State University Northridge, I have been working as a musician in the greater Los Angeles area. Now over a decade later, I continue to perform and teach - enjoying the whole ride wherever it takes me. While my primary instruments are Contrabass and Electric Bass Guitar, I have technical know how on a wide ...

Proficient in Jazz, and Folk styles with a background in improvisation. Taught by reading music and by rote.
I have been involved in music my entire life, and I love sharing my knowledge with others. I began taking vocal lessons from the age of 9 and have studied a variety of genres such as Musical Theatre, Jazz, Classical, Rock and Roll, and Folk. I studied Voice Performance at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. I have been playing the violin for 16 years, and was classically trained from the start. I was involved in the Award-winning Sacramento Youth Symphony for several years before heading to Berklee. I was a member of Berklee's Contemporary Orchestra, and was involved in string quartets, Celtic ensembles, and led my own band. During college I branched out to fiddle styles such as Jazz, Celtic, and Folk, and became known for my improvisational ability. Since moving to the ...
I have been playing Irish fiddle for 18 years and have been teaching it for almost 8 years. I studied and taught in Ireland until last November, when I relocated to California. I have competed in the All Ireland Fleadh on numerous occasions and have ranked amongst the top 10 Senior solo fiddle players. I am currently a leading member of an Irish/blues style folk band and play in various venues throughout Los Angeles. I would present a focus on aural training in lessons, as this is the most traditional and effective way of learning Irish music. I would also teach a history of the music and it's origin, and all about the various styles in Ireland.
I began learning both the piano and the violin when I was five years old. I play Irish Fiddle, Classical Violin and Gypsy Jazz/Blues Fiddle. I completed the ABRSM grades throughout my teenage years and began studying for my performance DipABRSM when I was in University. Although I was successful in my application for studying music performance in Trinity College Dublin, Cork School of Music and DIT Conservatory of Music I decided not to continue my further education with music just then as I felt a change of direction was necessary to explore. Instead I studied Industrial Design in the National College of Art and Design for four years. I attended the DIT Conservatory of Music as a part time music student during this time while also being a member of various orchestras including the DIT ...
