Singing Lessons in Fort Worth, TX

By LK F. - Fort Worth Singing Teacher

Are you a singer looking to take singing lessons in Fort Worth? In Texas, where everything is bigger, the opportunities are vast - especially in Fort Worth, Texas. Fort Worth is a great place to be a singer. The Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) Metroplex is one of the busiest places for musicians of all genres. Singers at every stage of their training (pun intended) can find multiple opportunities to supplement their private singing lessons in Fort Worth by performing in local groups, joining music clubs, local auditions, classes, workshops, festivals and more.

Before you sign up for that next audition or join a band and start booking gigs, make sure you have your priorities in order. Know what it takes to move forward as a singer. As Malcolm Gladwell argues in “The Outliers,” it takes about 10,000 hours to master a particular skill. So, as a singer, know that it will take much time and practice before you can start gigging, auditioning, etc.

Fort Worth Opera, a world-renowned company, offers a full season of programming with many additional programs and opportunities for students. Bass Hall hosts national tours and productions with many options for students, as well as summer camps and workshops. National talent agencies like Fort Worth Talent (www.fortworthtalent.com) offer weekly classes and seminars, as well as free showcases to show off new and emerging talent.

If you’re interested in karaoke, there is a website just for you: Dfwkaraoke.com. Additionally, be sure to check out “Karaoke On The Fly”, a karaoke show at Cassidy’s every Thursday evening (http://www.cassidysfortworth.com/). Have fun showcasing what you’ve learned in your singing lessons in Fort Worth!

If you are a competitor - it is all here. Dallas Opera. Check. “The Voice.” Check. Six Flags Amusement Parks. Check. And of course, if you think you’re the best singer in Texas, you want to visit www.thebestsingerintexas.com or try and find a recording contract through the competition at www.unsignedonly.com.

Some great options for musicians to perform, to listen and to network include the many open music groups throughout the metroplex. In Grapevine, there is a live music Meetup group that meets once a month for acoustic musicians and singers. There is a DFW Karaoke and Music Lovers (live bands) open group that singers can sign up for notifications. “Step Stool to the Stage” in Bedford invites a wide variety of performers to share their talents. There are also Irish music, folk music, Bollywood groups and more for singers at every level. Information on many of these open groups is here: http://group-singing.meetup.com/cities/us/tx/fort_worth/

Come sing in Fort Worth! It’s time for you to be heard!

Ben H.

Euless, TX

I'm in a country band where I sing and play guitar.

About Ben

Hello, my name is Ben and GUITAR IS MY BUSINESS...AND MY BUSINESS IS GOOD so please consider me. I've been playing guitar for over 18 years and have been in playing bands for 12 years. Recently after the band broke up, I decided to further my education and went to Musicians Institute in Hollywood California. There I was taught by the best guitar players in the world. Marty Friedman, Paul Gilbert, Scott Henderson, Tommy Emmanuel and Johnny Hiland were just a few of the great players who gave clinics there. I received a degree in Guitar Performance and the knowledge I received there made me UNDE
RSTAND the mystery that is the guitar.

I can teach Rock/Metal, Country (lead and rhythm), Blues, Alternative, Acoustic, Classical, Chord Melody, Melodic Soloing, Twang, Chords, Scales, Modes, Many different lead and rhythm techniques and more importantly any song you want to go over.

I feel learning to play your favorite songs is the most important and the most fun about guitar playing. After playing songs, some of the information given (scales, chords, theory, ear-training) starts to make some since and you begin to slowly figure the guitar out.

Theory and Ear-training I feel are very important to learn when trying to understand music. It just gives you a basic mathematical way of understanding how music works. It can be very frustrating to learn and takes some time to sink in so if you don't want to learn it then that is great. Ear-training is cool because when you start to understand it you can actually hear music and not just listen to it. You can listen to a chord progression on the radio and go home and play it and also improvise over it.

I encourage BEGINNERS through EXPERT to at least hear what I have to say. I have A LOT of information to give about the guitar. I played for ten years made 2 demo CDs, one full length album, another demo specifically for Metal Blade Records, was in a big cover band and so I thought I knew it all and was a great guitar player. Then I went to GUITAR SCHOOL in Hollywood and reality hit me.
I wasn't as good as I thought. When you hear the best guitar players in the world everyday for a year and a half like I did at Musicians Institute it makes you want to be better and practice, practice, practice. I learned everything there about guitar and music and I know the Right way to teach.

Please consider me for your guitar teacher I will make it fun and a good learning experience as well.

Thank you,
Ben

*** Lesson Details ***
It depends on what level the student is on and that is where we will go with the lesson. If you are a beginner we will start with the very basics. I try to make it to where you can easily understand everything taught. The most important part of the lesson is you are having fun with playing the guitar and also getting as much information as possible. Upper level students may want to go over a song they are learning or want to know about theory or chords. Usually we will talk about where you are at with your playing and then go from there.

Thanks.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Acoustic and electric guitar PA system, small amplifier for student

*** Travel Equipment ***

*** Specialties ***
Teaching Rock, metal, country lead, blues, ear training, theory solo improvization. Scales and chords and how they go together. Melodic soloing and chord melody. Can teach out of a book and can read music. But most importantly have fun and learn cool songs

Sharon S.

Fort Worth, TX

About Sharon

I have a diverse, mixed-up, wonderful background. I have wanted to do something with music and performance since I was 3-years-old. I have been able to foster that goal through work in the professional film and television industry as well as professional theater (and no, the word is not misspelled despite what spell-check would have you believe and I would love to explain why.). However, my greatest love has always been teaching. My education includes training in theater, film, television, music, voice, and communication. I received my BA in Fine Arts and Humanities from the University of
Nebraska at Kearney and my MS in Communication Studies at Texas Christian University. Most recently I worked as the director of the performance studies program at a local charter school, using music and theater to reduce communication anxiety in students. I am a member of the the Texas Music Teachers Association and attend frequent training and events to keep my skills current. My greatest teachers, however, have always been my students!

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are as various as the students who take them. Just like no two students are alike no two lessons are either. My lessons are designed around the students goals and desires. I use modern technology as well as classical training techniques to help my students become the best that they can be. I use a variety of different curriculum depending on what best meets the needs of the individual student. Growth is a constant goal as we work together, student and teacher, to take the student from where they are to where they want to be. Lessons are full of "aha" moments as we work to not only understand the how but also the why behind everything that we learn.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Small room(10X12), piano and electric keyboard, computer, iPad, mirror, iGallop, CD/iPod Player.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect music students to have a keyboard/piano for home use as well as purchase their own books and/or sheet music. I provide computer equipment when applicable and other outreach tools.

*** Specialties ***
I use the classical approach for singing.
I teach quasi-method acting.

Sharon is awesome!

I can't say enough great things about Sharon. Her teaching style is great and she gets through to my daughter like no other instructor ever has. Emma has landed more call backs than ever before. She also had her first ever principal role with a solo singing part using an audition piece that Sharon chose and helped her prepare. Emma has improved vastly and she really enjoys her lessons with Sharon. We give her an A +++.

LK F.

Fort Worth, TX

Instruction for beginning through advanced singers.

Lisa Kay Fletcher is a visionary teacher, professional musician and arts advocate. She is an active singer, actress, director, pianist, clinician, conductor and adjudicator. More importantly she is a mentor, an educator and encourager to thousands of performers. Lisa Kay has performed professionally for twenty years as a soloist in opera, oratorio, recital, musical theatre and jazz. She has taught in summer programs in Rome, Viterbo and throughout the US. She has served as music professor at several institutions including Colorado Christian University. She is a published playwright, a national drama critic and an acclaimed director and performer. She is passionate about the arts and empowering artists.

About LK

I am a singer-pianist-actor Or a pianist-singer-actor. :-)
I have a bachelors degree in voice performance and a minor in piano and theater.
I have a masters degree in voice as well as a second masters in piano literature.
i have a certificate in comedy improvisation from Second City and am a professional actor. I am the owner and senior talent agent of a large talent agency in the DFW area.
My post graduate work is in vocal pedagogy.
I have been a professional teacher and performer for over 20 years.
I own and manage a professional talent agency in the DFW area.
My students come in e
very model imaginable - and I wouldn't have it any other way. Raw beginner or veteran actor or musician, professional recording artist, College music major or American Idol wannabe.

The arts are such a great language for communicating. I grew up with two parents who were professional musicians (mom is a concert pianist) and I also raised 3 children who are professional musicians. We made music our native language in our home. We all have the ability to speak music when it is spoken to us. I don’t ever remember not playing the piano. I started winning piano competitions in high school. I minored in piano, and then did additional post graduate work in piano. I “speak” piano. It has served me so well as a teacher, composer, opera coach. It is really a gateway to understanding all other instruments. The same scenario with my singing.

I began my professional career as an opera singer which has taken me around the world. I have premiered works by Leonard Bernstein and Samuel Adler in addition to principal roles and concert work with Pittsburgh Opera, The Pittsburgh Symphony, Dayton Opera, the Tuscia Opera Festival and hundreds of professional engagements. I have also had the wonderful opportunity to belt the National Anthem for several major league teams in a television appearance- and has done so on multiple occasions. (Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Penguins, Pittsburgh Steelers, Cincinnati Reds) I am passionate about vocal jazz and musical theater and am frequently found as a performer in various national and regional venues. Feature concert works include PBS (Gershwin in Concert) as well as featured solo concert works (Pergolesi Stabat Mater) on Italian Public TV.

My approach to music has always been to do what you love. I have never limited myself as a performer to a genre or an instrument. I have explored, applied myself to and enjoyed a very diverse musical career. If you have a passion for an instrument or style of music let's start there first... and then let's discover together all the things you do that uniquely define your musicianship style.

*** Lesson Details ***
Your lessons will always be engaging, challenging and fun!

I am very consistent in my approach to technique, my focus on goals and my demand for excellence. I constantly am working to access with you what your goals are and to provide feedback and support to help you achieve them.

I am very flexible in utilizing a wide variety of repertoire, resources etc. Your lessons are personalized to your skill set and your musical interests. I utilize audio and video recordings almost every week for all my students. I routinely promote and encourage my students to participate in a wide variety of competitions, recitals, workshops and master classes.

I have a very low turnover rate for students and a very high rate of students who have progressed to professional full time careers in music. Students like being a part of my studio and really like the confidence they have in their music abilities in a very short period of time.

I do not use the same curriculum for all students, in face, each curriculum is customized for that student. The components are similar: technique, repertoire, theory, listening, composing, recording and performing.

You can expect the following:You will feel very encouraged and supported in your talent. You will have measurable improvement in your skills. You will have a personal advocate to encourage and direct you in finding and creating opportunities to succeed in your music personally, academically and professionally.

I can't wait to get started!

About Melodie

Music has been a very important part of my life for a long time. I began taking piano lessons at age 9 and also started as a church musician that same year. Some people would say I was a very fast learner! I was, and still am, very interested in every aspect of music. I began singing in church and school a few years after that. I have played and performed a variety of styles of music but I have the most experience with Christian music, classical, pop and R & B. I am confident that I can teach you whatever style you are interested in! I am currently a high school choral director and a min
ister of music for church. I also play in a band with a group of my co-workers where we perform mostly pop, rock and oldies. I have been doing private lessons since I was in high school and have taught school music for 25 years. I've taught general education, choir, band and general music. I also do some composing.

I attended Jarvis Christian College (1984-1989) where I majored in All-Level Music Education. I received a Bachelor of Science in Education degree in May of 1989.

After I was hired at my first school, I started working on additional certification at Texas Christian University and Texas Wesleyan University. I completed the required subjects and received certification in general education in 1991. I am currently certified in 3 areas: General Music 1-8, All-Level Music K-12 and General Education 1-8.

Ms. Brookins is an excellent teacher. Although I had a few ideas of how to sing, I had no idea how technical it was. After a couple of weeks of struggling, she helped me further understand the complexity of the voice. She is great at going at the students pace while trying to help them grow musically.
