Beginner Classes

1. No experience necessary.
2. I provide machines for the first few classes.
3. I provide all basic supplies needed for these classes.
Students learn about the sewing machine and various things it can do -- how to thread and operate it, how to sew seams and finishes, and, of course, everyone will construct and sew some fun basic items like pillow case, cushion cover with appliqué, apron, coasters etc.
My program is designed for children ages 8-16 and adults who have an interest in fashion design, sewing, and illustration.
My goal is to help kids take this “arts” seriously from an early age. I teach kids with the same discipline that I use in my adult classes. I want the children to have fun while learning skills they can take with them and use for a lifetime!

Intermediate Classes

This class is for students who have completed the Beginner Class or already have comparable sewing experience.

A beginner sewer will learn how to lay out and cut a pattern, identification and use of sewing notions, sewing machine mechanics and utility stitches, and in the end, the creation of a basic garment.
An intermediate sewer will learn bias techniques, fitting garments, button holes, sewing on buttons by hand and by machine, hemming, and topstitching.
An advanced sewer will learn serging techniques, French seaming, working with lingerie patterns, and lining simple garments.

About Monica

I am new to Texas. Originally, I am from Indiana, where I earned my teaching degree. I have never had a student that I didn't enjoy teaching - everyone learns differently. My license is in Special Education, but I am fluent in core curriculums. I can't count how many prom dresses, wedding dresses, or other items I have created. I started sewing on the machine at 5 years old. I am also an expert crocheter, quilter, and jewelry designer. I also paint and upcycle furniture.
