I started out with absolutely no musical training at all. The first few sessions we spent on learning the basics of how to hold the instrument properly. Julian then asked me why I wanted to learn so that he could find the right method for me. Its been about 4 years and I feel I keep getting better. I have learned more than I ever thought id be able to. I even played live in front of fans before a stars game at the AT&T Center. Julian is a great instructor and will tailor your sessions based on what you want to learn, all the while giving you the proper tools to grow on your own and find your own sound.

Very patient with young children, an outstanding guitar teacher!

Tom has been teaching my daughter guitar for her first year of lessons. She is now 6, and can be moody, very easily distracted and will not sit still for long. To keep her focused, Tom combines harmonica and slide whistle lessons along with her guitar lessons, and it works very well. He also brings in different kinds of guitars (electric and classical) to keep the lessons interesting for her. Every week he reviews what she has learned, and also brings new music and will even write requested songs (using fret # a good approach for kids at this age). He shows up for lessons like clockwork, and she has learned much more than we had expected her to.

Tom is knowledgable, patient and FUN!

Tom lets my son choose the type of music he wants to learn, even specific songs. He also has him work on other types of music in order to improve his technique, yet ensures that its music he likes. As his mom, I am particularly pleased that Tom discusses with him the types of things that my son should practice that will help his progress. Tom is a low-key individual, but has plenty of enthusiasm for his work. My son is always excited about his guitar lessons and thinks the world of Tom.

Jim is a great guy and excellent teacher, but was not up to date on the oldies instrumentals and that was my main profile request. I did learn things from him in other areas that will help me with other songs. Thank you

Music Theory · In studio
I recently began taking lessons with Michael on understanding more about music theory with the objective of becoming a better guitarist and song writer. Not only the knowledge I have gained, but the overall improvement of my musicianship in such a short amount of time has greatly surpassed my expectations. I would highly recommend Michael to any musician looking to take their craft to the next level.

Michael has been wonderful. He seems very young to this old woman, but his maturity is remarkable. I have never had a teacher handle 'Thias the way Michael does. Somehow he seems to always be a step ahead of his young student and has a distinct ability to keep 'Thias focused on the lesson. Mathias has learned so much in the last four weeks, his playing sounds much more mature and organized and he is enraptured with the music he is making. I have always had to keep an eye on the lesson to make sure that Mathias was engaged. Somehow I do not feel the need to do that anymore. I guess I can say that Michael has given me the chance to relax and "enjoy the music". Thank you, Michael, You are making my dream and Mathias's dream come true.

Andrew F.

San Antonio, TX

After understanding a student's level and what their interests with guitar are, we pick out suitable music to use for lessons, as the student progresses. I like to experiment, so, after the student gains a good understanding of playing a song or a piece, I like to go over various ways of playing the song to explore other kinds of expression through the guitar. With this approach, my students may learn to bring logic (technique, scales, theory) and feeling (how music is played) together. After a good level of understanding is obtained, I go over beginning lead guitar with students. I strive to make it a fun experience so that motivation is well-maintained and progress takes place. If desired, I can include singing in the lessons!

About Andrew

I have experience tutoring students as well as working with people individually and in groups, as an undergrad Psychology intern, a cognitive skills trainer, and a counseling student. As an undergrad intern, I worked with elementary school children as a tutor and a mentor. As a counseling student, I have worked with various populations, from grade school students to adults to older adults in hospice care, as well as individuals suffering from a mental illness. Also, I teach a beginner ukulele class at a community education center. Through my personal, academic and vocational experiences, I have gained insight about the process of working with people, educationally, musically, and developmentally. My approach is one that is peculiar to each of my students. As an auto-didactic ...
