Carmichael, CA

About David

I have been a working musician and occasional private music teacher for over 40 years. During that time I had a career in the professional audio and video industry, during which I learned how to successfully deal with people. I recently returned to school and completed a Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree at CSU Sacramento. My goal is to bring excitement and enthusiasm for music and playing an instrument to my students, and to create musicians who will make and enjoy music throughout their lives. I play guitar, bass guitar and flute, and enjoy teaching all of them to all age groups.

*** Lesson Details ***
Playing music is supposed to be fun. Lessons include playing, so they should be fun as well. My lessons are both focused and fun. I believe you get out of music what you put in. If a student doesn't practice in between lessons, I will know. If a student does practice, I will know that as well. My lessons stress not only what to practice, but how. In 3-6 months, the beginning student can expect to be able to make a pleasing sound on the instrument, and be able to play beginning repertoire. Most importantly, the student will be able to play well enough to enjoy the instrument, which inevitably leads to more productive practice and continued improvement. This continued improvement is what lessons are all about.

*** Travel Equipment ***
If I travel to a student's home, I will bring my instrument only. I expect the student to provide all other equipment necessary for the lesson.

*** Specialties ***
Folk guitar, rock and roll and blues bass, classical flute, analog and digital recording

About Curtis

Hello there! I'm a friendly and patient teacher who understands the frustrations that can occur when learning the guitar. Each individual student learns differently and having studied in the Guitar Institute of Technology program at Musicians Institute has given me a well rounded perspective on how to help my students overcome problems from many different angles. I first started out teaching only a handful of students on guitar in 2009. Since then my student base has grown and the art of sharing my knowledge of music has become a passion of mines. I enjoy teaching students of all ages and l
evels!

Growing up, I have always had a passion for music. I was listening to Pop, Top 40, Rock, Metal, Blues, Jazz and everything in-between. However, I didn't start playing the guitar or studying music until I was 21 years of age. This presented some challenges as most professional musicians start much earlier. But through determination and having great teachers guide me, the age old saying of "It is never too late", resonates loudly in my life.

I was self taught for the first year of playing the guitar. I ran into many problems and picked up bad habits. I noticed my growth as a musician had hit a plateau. I then decided to get serious and take lessons from professional teachers. I spent one year studying with Kurt Shiflet and three years with Musicians Institute alumni Scott Allen. After the four years of private lessons in Sacramento, I decided to study in Los Angeles attending Musicians Institute(G.I.T). After the two years, I graduated from the G.I.T program with a certificate in Guitar Performance. During my time at the Musicians Institute, I was instructed by Keith Wyatt, Greg Harrison and Daniel Gilbert (just to name a few). Having been instructed by these great musicians has proven to be invaluable in my career. Allow me to share the wisdom bestowed upon me from my great teachers to you.

*** Lesson Details ***
I like to develop a customized lesson plan for each of my student's specific goals in music. We can work on specific areas that the student wishes to work on such as: Reading standard notation on the Guitar, Guitar Tablature, Theory and Ear Training, Songs and Guitar Soloing. I can also create a customized well rounded curriculum that is similar to what I went through at music school. Anything music related we can work on, nothing is off limits in our private lesson.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Boss E-Band Js10 and Fender Guitar

*** Travel Equipment ***
Boss E-band Js10 and Fender Guitar. For my electric guitar students I expect them to have their own electric guitar, guitar tuner, instrument cable and a amplifier. Acoustic students I only require they own a tuner and guitar.

*** Specialties ***
Blues, Rock, Funk & Pop styles on electric guitar, Music Theory, Beginner to Intermediate Acoustic Guitar.

Curtis has been an excellent teacher in helping me start playing the guitar, with no prior experience. He is always in tune with the kind of goals I want to meet with my instrument while giving me useful exercises and tips to improve my skills. Would highly recommend him to other students looking to pick up the guitar or wanting to improve on your current skills.

Esther B.

Sacramento, CA

I have been teaching the guitar 8 years. I'm building a strong foundation of techniques.I specialize in Blues, classical &typically use MelBay books and also have the following to use the Sheet music.
In addition,I emphasize how to read a good sight reading.

About Esther

I'm Esther, a very enthusiastic musician. I started out teaching myself piano and singing in a choir at the age of 9. I moved to the U.S. in 1992 and studied music for 10 years receiving my B.M. & M.M in music at California State University of Sacramento. I studied and trained with Claudia Kitka & Jackie Victorino for voice and Kirsten Smith, Joan McDe, & Angel Mamn for piano. I have performed many solo concerts in the U.S. as well as South Korea.

I find a student's strengths and weaknesses using various ways to encourage each student. I am very patient, kind, flexible, and enthusiastic
and I love working with children as much as adults. I strongly support basic skills: sight-reading, pitch and tone.

I have 30 years experience teaching kids and adults private piano and 6 yrs voice coaching (early period to contemporary). I speak fluent Korean and English.

*** Lesson Details ***
My objectives: to help students powerfully communicate through the essence of music and aid the development of children and adults by finding their strengths and weaknesses and to develop their skills and show their musical talents. I emphasize basic skills, good sight-reading, and Solfege skills (Do-Re-Me...etc), vocal technique, vocal performance, and Alexandria technique. Students participate in their own recital and show their musical talents.

Lessons are held at either your home, or mine using composers from various time periods that speaks to the individual student.
Also,I do prefer to work a weekly student.
A beginner lesson may be 10-15 min. for warm-ups and scales, 10-15 min. theory and 10 min. playtime. In three to six months the student will be able to read sheet music and should be able to perform simple songs.

An intermediate lesson is longer, 45-50 min., with more focus on music from a specific chosen time-period. A specialty is preparation for voice and piano auditions for entering college.

I enjoy teaching children from age 5 up to adults. I also can teach beginner oboe and beginner guitar.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano, electronic keyboard, guitar, oboe

*** Travel Equipment ***
Guitar

*** Specialties ***
I teach the basic skills very strongly, and also encourage students and, challenge them, as well.
I also have new techniques for teaching voice and piano.
I do prefer to teach a weekly lesson.

For the past few years, I have learned a lot on how to play music using a guitar. Ms.Esther helped me realize what I needed to focus on and what I was great at. Essentially, she helped me figure out my limitations with regards to my musical knowledge and skill which is great because it made me aware of what I needed to improve my skills. Ms. Esther is excellent in teaching; always making sure to help her students truly understand music and its value. I could not have asked for a better teacher. Thank you !

Riffs, reading music, tabs, songs, chords, performance opportunities... it's all here. From country, pop, blues, classical, jazz... everything from the ground up. Acoustic styles. Electric. It's all here!

About Loren

Loren is a well-known music instructor and has been teaching private music lessons in the Elk Grove area since 2002. He has been teaching for years and years, has two music degrees and is an active performer in many styles, enjoying a steady gigging schedule in the Sacramento area. He's "the real deal."

The lessons are of the highest quality available as the student learns to read music, is guided in music theory with ear training, technique, and performance, however performance remains optional. There are options.

We often begin with songs that the student alre
ady likes. Sometimes that's the ticket. From Bach to the Beatles, Taylor Swift to Bob Dylan, there are always great entrance points.

Theory, (chords, intervals, scales, cadences, etc.) Reading music, (tabs, traditional music notation, charts), Technique, (right and left hand patterns), it's all covered. It's fun and legitimate education.

*** Specialties ***
Lessons in piano or guitar cover all popular music styles including country, rock, and classical.

Beginner Bass: Get to Know the Bass
You might think that bass guitar is just like a guitar with fewer strings. Some people even think that the bass is an easier instrument to play because of this. However, the bass is just as complex as guitar and also requires a different skill set. In this beginner bass video, TakeLessons teacher Chris S. shares what beginner players need to know about the bass guitar to get off to a great start! Interested in Private Lessons? This practice doesn't suit every guitarist, and it drives my family crazy, but I find playing guitar with the TV on incredibly relaxing and I think it's actually helped me become a better player in three distinct ways
