I've been teaching cello for 30 years and my students have gone on to play with different ensembles like symphony orchestras. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to play simple songs by reading and by ear and as time goes on you'll be able to play more complex repertoire. I specialize in classical, style but I can teach you different kinds of styles, typically use Kummer method and Suzuki repertoire but I use a variety of method and books. I have the following tools available for your lessons: cello, computer program, sound system, Tuner and Metronome . I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!
With more than 20 years of teaching experience for the cello, I have taught students of all ages, throughout California and overseas. I earned a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in Cello Performance and am currently the Principal cellist for the Camellia Symphony, California. In addition, I am teaching all levels of cello and beginner violin lessons to my students in Folsom, Napa and Sacramento. My professional performing experience began in Medellin, Colombia in 1985 with the Medellin Philharmonic Orchestra where I was their Soloist beginning in 1992 and later on, as First Cello, from 1998-2002. While in Colombia, I also performed with the Antioquia Symphonic Orchestra and the Antioquia Chamber Orchestra from 1991-1999. I left my hometown of Medellin to ...
Cello playing is strenuous and can result in chronic stress injuries. Learning to play with minimal tension in your arms and hands is an important step in playing strain free and results in more a more beautiful tone and phrasing. I teach you to use your larger trunk and leg muscles to transfer your body weight to your cello as opposed to using small muscles in your hands and arms. This is safer and more easily produces the lovely resonant tone qualities that make the cello special.
I particularly enjoy teaching adults who have struggled with tension and discomfort.
I have played in orchestras for over 15 years and play in several local chamber ensembles and know the challenges of playing with others.
Your lessons are designed to help you develop the skills and confidence you need to successfully perform in public. I work hard to prepare your lessons and I ask my students to invest daily time working on skills studied at their lessons. Performing music requires the patient integration of multiple skills over time, however, the rewards are BIG. I continually update my teaching methods by attending workshops and master classes and I incorporate my knowledge of human anatomy and function, to help you perform with minimal strain. Also, I incorporate internet resources in your lessons to keep them interesting and up to date. What will your lessons be like? At your first lesson we will explore and name the parts of your instrument (voice or cello). We'll talk about what you ...
I have had many opportunities to grow in the area of Cello playing. I took an intense two year training course in college where we met everyday. I learned many cello teaching techniques to augment my violin/violin techniques. This training was invaluable to me. I am also now a part of the Valli Celli in my Stockton, CA. The Valli Celli is an all cello choir. This experience has and will continue to aid in my teaching of the cello.
My philosophy of teaching has many facets: 1.) The students physical health must be taken into consideration when playing an instrument. 2.) Only through hard work and practice can a student make lasting improvements. 3.) Repetition is the key to long-lasting learning. 4.) A teacher needs to be a cheerleader and a task-master at the same time. 5.) I use the Suzuki Method in as many ways as possible along with reading exercises for most ages. *** Lesson Details *** I do have high expectations of my students, but I am considerate about schedules and family conflicts. *** Studio Equipment *** Office/classroom, seating for parents, piano - it is his so reservations won't be an issue *** Specialties *** I am currently training with a violin/viola master teacher who ...
