Matthew's approach is technique driven, while at the same time, expressive, musically sensitive, and fun! Matthew's voice students will learn English and foreign language diction, ear training and sight-singing, proper posture, stage presence, confidence, and healthy vocal production suitable for all styles of singing. Drum students will learn the importance of snare drum rudiments, how to read drum charts, the nuances of various styles, as well as, develop dexterity and increase muscular function and independence. Matthew currently teaches voice and theory at Wyoming Seminary Institute in Wilkes-Barre, PA during the Summer, teaches voice at Fairfield School of Music, and owns and operates a full service analog and digital recording studio.

Being a musician is exciting, challenging, and of course, rewarding. Musicians are communicators; instruments of expression. I'm a firm believer in diligent practice habits and learning the fundamentals of one's craft. From there, the music can happen.

Hi! My name is Barry and I have been teaching for over 10 years in the Fairfield County, CT area. I have had success teaching all ages, styles and abilities, from the most gifted to the physically impaired. I grew up listening to a tremendously wide range of music, and have studied classical flute, rock, jazz and classical guitar, and even the japanese shakuhachi, with some of the great minds of the instruments. I graduated high honors from Queens College with a Masters' in composition, and have had works performed by major acts in the contemporary classical scene. In jazz, I have shared the s
tage and recording studio with the likes of Marc Ribot and William Parker; I have quite a bit of experience as a performer that I bring to my teaching. My passion for music is addictive; I have turned the least motivated students into consummate music lovers. My goal is to find a student's personal musical voice so they have the opportunity to discover where THEIR musical passion lies. Whether it be country, rock and roll, or classical, the long term goal is to both teach the student what they love, as well as expand their musical horizons to discover things they may never have thought they would love.

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach in a fairly laid back style with an emphasis on technique, theory making the most of your practice time. Starting with a set curriculum, the material moves into more student chosen songs as the lessons progress. The idea is to communicate the connections between music with the goal of expanding the students ear and teaching them to listen; not just in music but in every aspect of life.

Students should have their own instruments and amplification for electric guitar, music stand and place to take lessons in their home. If they don't, I am knowledgeable of the local music stores and can recommend places to either buy or rent instruments. I provide practice sheets and curriculum.

*** Specialties ***
In general, for each instrument I teach I have a cirriculum for the primer/beginning level. Once that level is reached, the direction becomes more student driven; that is if the student responds to classical music (for instance), we will focus on that. As the students interests change, the lesson development changes and the student grows as a musician. That being said, I am primarily a classical pianist, and a jazz/rock guitarist/drummer. While I am a classically trained flautist, much of my gigging and recording experience is with rock bands.

Very good experience.

Barry has great patience....I enjoy my lessons, but I don't always practice as much as I should so I'm not as good at this as I might otherwise be. He makes the learning experience very worthwhile. It makes me want to stick with it. He definitely gets an A+!!

*** Lesson Details ***
In a one hour lesson, we will spend twenty five minutes on vocal exercises designed to teach support and placement. Having performed leads on and Off Broadway, I know that without good technique you can't do eight shows a week, do back to back sets in a nightclub or cabaret or tour as a pop or rock singer. The second half of the lesson is spent on songs. As an acting as well as vocal coach, I focus on dramatics as well as musical interpretation. A singer must be connected to the words as well as the music. I hope to teach you to love singing as much as I do.

Mary is wonderfully patient and convivial. I'm pretty much a beginner at lessons, and she's found a way to explain to me technique exercises such that each week, my body understands more, and I feel progress. In responding to my singing, she has not been a perfection czar -- she zeroes in on the most important concern at the moment. While she's extremely knowledgeable about and experienced in musical theater, she can help singers with pop as well. I'm enjoying our lessons. She has boosted my confidence while it's quite evident how much I should improve. Her pricing is also reasonable -- no small thing.

Hi my name is David and I love and enjoy teaching guitar lessons to students of all ages and I come to your home for lessons. My goal in life is to enrich people's lives with music. The first thing I do when I meet a student is to interview the student and find out why they want to learn how to play the guitar and what are some of their goals. Then I find out what style of music they would like to learn. I have the student come up with ten songs they would like to learn. I take this information and structure future guitar lessons around the essential elements of these songs. I design each less
on to teach the specific skills required to learn those songs. I create an organized custom guitar lesson workbook for each of my students at no cost to the student or parent. This way, my students have a weekly organized practice routine and they become successful. Having a teaching degree, (B.A. Music - Conservatory of Music - Concentration: Studio Composition / Master's in Education - M.A.T. / Adolescence Education (Grades 5-12) 3.56 GPA).

I create all of the guitar lessons to meet each students individual needs that include lessons on theory, technique, rhythm, chords, scales, riffs, arpeggio's, songs, and exercises etc. I break down songs into easy digestible parts so students can learn a song in a logical and most manageable way. I use a color coded method to teach that I created that help students not only learn and understand scales and chords but also they are able to see visually how scales and chords are created. I currently teach private guitar lessons and have worked for 12 years in our local schools as a teacher with students K through 12. For 2 years, from 2012 to 2014 I taught an after-school enrichment guitar and songwriting class. I created the curriculum and music workbook specifically for 6 and 7-year old children whom I taught at Pequenakonck Elementary School in North Salem, NY. In College I won an award for the most Improved Studio Composition Student at Purchase College. I incorporate lessons that I have learned in the classroom as a teacher to help my guitar students learn. I feel the most important thing for my students to learn about music is to have a lot of fun.
