About Jaxon

*See further below for lesson details!*
Jaxon the Guitarist: I am a Doctoral Guitar Major at USC studying classical guitar. I have been playing the guitar for 19 years and teaching for 10. My main style is classical, and due to the technical training I have had since I was very young, it has been very easy for me to learn and master other styles such as Rock, Jazz, Blues, Pop, Country, and other styles of guitar. I have a passion for performing and have played hundreds of solo and ensemble concerts. As a classical performer I was the Oregon State champion in their guitar competition for bo
th 2005 and 2006 and won 4th prize at the Sierra Nevada International Classical Guitar Competition 2014. I have played concerts all over the United States as well as in Spain and Mexico. As a performer of other styles I have played in many bands and have won high school battle of the bands competitions and recently placed 2nd in BYU's battle of the bands 2011. I was a regional finalist in Guitar Center's "King of the Blues" competition as well.

Jaxon the Teacher: I really love spreading the knowledge I've learned over the years about the guitar, bass guitar, songwriting, music theory, and everything music related to my students. I find a huge sense of fulfillment in seeing my students understand and enjoy learning and making beautiful music. I have a high level of knowledge and skills that I am very willing to use to teach students from the most beginner to the most advanced. Former students of mine have achieved lofty goals ranging from making it into a music program at the college level to winning their school's talent show to being accepted into their school's jazz band.

*** Lesson Details ***
My curriculum is based around YOU. I push my students hard, but I make sure they're always having fun and enjoying playing. I like to get my students playing real songs as fast as possible so they can see results immediately and get excited!

Note: I am trained and specialized in teaching children fingerstyle guitar. I have taught hundreds of kids in schools, privately, and in groups over the last two years. The method I use is proven to give kids the best possible start to music and maximize their potential. If you have children and you want them to learn good technique and music principles through guitar, you don't want to look any further, I promise.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have stools, music stands, and an amp here so all you need to bring is your guitar!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I do not provide any equipment.
Student must have their own guitar and amp if they play electric.
I do have guitars available for rental.

*** Specialties ***
-Children's fingerstyle guitar
-Proficient in Suzuki method
-Specialist in classical guitar, though proficient up to highly advanced in any guitar style (blues, rock, country, jazz, pop, etc)
-Also very experienced teaching songwriting and music performance

Initially, I received the quintessential guitar lessons, complete with classical guitar exercises. I then developed an affinity for classical guitar, but I couldn’t journey further into the style because my training was limited. I can happily say that I have not only been able to overcome my plateau but also found the teacher who can shape me into the guitarist I aspire to be. I’m being taught via video chat but the lessons are nothing short of insightful. Your dedication as a student with Jaxon will take you far. Take the first lesson and you’ll see!

I just finished a series of online upright bass lessons with Dr. Norman. It's wonderful to have a lesson without toting the bass around town. Dr. Norman is impressive in skill and knowledge. There was nothing musically he didn't know, couldn't explain, or demonstrate on the bass. He has a keyboard at hand to play chords or emphasize a particular key, and he is proficient on that too. Dr. Norman is A++.

About Joseph

Joseph R. has 5 years of experience teaching students elementary, middle school-aged children and adults on to how to play keyboard, guitar, flute and saxophone while sharing his learning experience with them as a self-taught saxophone and flute player and his more conventional education on piano and guitar.

Joe started developing his musical talent through piano lessons at the age of 7. After only a year of formal study, he began to experiment with other instruments such as the bamboo flute, the guitar and the drums. When he moved to the United States at the age of 13, he was introduced to
the school’s band where he chose to hone his skills with the flute. Since then, he has been exposed to classical and symphonic repertoire. During high school, he joined the marching band and at the same time, found interest in jazz and alto saxophone. He decided to pursue a career in music by majoring in Jazz Studies and Performance at the University of California in Irvine where he has received his Bachelors degree in Music. Joe is a great instructor. He has done a fantastic job explaining concepts in an understandable way, and utilizes a lot of computer tools to help the lessons, such as backing tracks. I would definitely recommend him as a teacher.

Regina G.

Glendale, CA

The class is essentially for students who have at least some basic knowledge of piano and music theory. Music performance is like a workshop class to radically improve the performing skills of the student. I will focus on specific techniques which will help the student perform more effectively. An intermediate level of piano is recommended for the class.

About Regina

At the age of fifteen, Ms. Regina graduated with honors from the Z. Paliashvili Special Music Gymnasium for Gifted Children in Tbilisi, Georgia. As a student of a famous Georgian pianist, Tengiz Amirejibi, she presented her country in numerous competitions. (Tengiz Amirejibi was a student of Heinrich Neuhaus, a famous Russian teacher and pianist.)

As a child, Ms. Regina gave many solo recitals and concerts with the Georgian Symphonic Orchestra. Ms. Regina earned her Doctorate of Musical Arts with emphasis on Advanced Piano Performance from the Yerevan State Conservatory. After graduating,
she worked with talented children in her alma mater for many years. Later in her professional career, Ms. Regina taught at the Tbilisi State Conservatory as well as the Moscow Music Gymnasium.

With more than eighteen years of professional teaching experience, Ms. Regina is able to offer her students a diverse range of educational resources. She specializes in teaching piano, performance, and music theory to students of all ages and levels.

Ms. Regina's teaching techniques are based on a combination of the famous Russian Music School (based on music giants such as Konstantin Igumnov, Daniel Barenboim, and Heinrich Neuhaus) and the American Music Education System. This combination allows each student to work at a pace comfortable for him/her, and helps all students make significant progress in the areas of sight reading, ear training, and performance skills.

***Ms. Regina teaches in her Glendale studio and the surrounding areas every day of the week except for Saturdays. She teaches in her Orange County studio located in Fountain Valley on Saturdays.***

Sara J.

Los Angeles, CA

The preparation for performing is very important when giving a concert or recital, solo or not. You must learn how to conduct yourself (how to walk on stage with confidence, bowing, etc.), how to convey to the audience what it is you are trying to present to them (musicality, emotion, etc.), and how to interact with other performers on stage with you (orchestra, quartet, etc.)

About Sara

Sara J originated from Pasadena, CA where she began her musical studies at the age of 7. Not only was she involved with her school's music programs, she performed with groups such as the Crown City Symphony (formerly known as the Crown City Chamber Players) and the Pasadena Summer Youth Chamber Orchestra, and took violin lessons for five years with violin instructor Roberta Wilcox.

After transferring from Pasadena City College, (studying with, violinist and conductor, Andrei Ganea and, member of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Paul Stein) she received her Bachelor's of Music degree in Perform
ance from the University of Redlands under the instruction of Pavel Farkas. In April 2014, she graduated from the Master's of Music program at the University of Redlands earning a degree in Violin Performance under the instruction of Jeanne Skrocki.

She has performed with orchestras like the Coachella Valley Symphony, Redlands Symphony Orchestra, and Pasadena Summer Youth Chamber Orchestra. She is also involved in a Piano Trio and has performed as a Colonial Fiddle Musician on Riley’s Farm in Oak Glen at the Hawk’s Head Tavern. You may also find Sara playing many events as part of a string quartet throughout the Coachella Valley, Inland Empire, and Los Angeles county.

Ms. J is very passionate for music and tries to instill that same passion into her students by teaching them both the technicality and musicality of different pieces. She believes that when one learns how to play an instrument, one must also learn the principles of music in general. When a musician knows every facet of a piece they are playing, performing the music becomes a deeper experience for the performer and audience, whether that piece be a Beethoven Concerto or Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. She strives to help the students become very knowledgeable, not only in playing the violin itself, but also in music theory, history, ear training, wise practicing, and performance etiquette.

Music Criticism: How To Handle a Critical Audience
Years ago, I heard my first band would be featured in the local paper and I was so excited to read the article. I hurried home to read it and found that the short blurb was far from complimentary. A public critique like that can make you want to give up. I certainly wanted to hide under my bed for a week! However, I have learned how to handle criticism and continued to make music that makes me happy. In the time since then, I have been lucky enough to receive both criticism and positive revie
