By Matt B. - Dallas Voice Teacher
Everyone has their own voice and whether we realize it or not, nearly all of us strive to find and develop it. Whether our voice is quite literally a speaking voice, or whether it is expressed through career, lifestyle, or relationships with friends and family, chances are that we have found a vocation and endeavored to grow with and through it at some point in our lives. Our voice is the biggest part of who we are for one simple reason: it identifies our unique, individual character, and allows us to share that with the world.
Teaching singing lessons in Dallas has been a wonderful experience. With historic areas and venues like Deep Ellum and the Meyerson Theatre nearby, as well as the eclectic and quaint Granada Theatre, and charming live music venues such as St. Martin's Wine Bistro and Arthur's Restaurant, the Dallas/Fort Worth area is overflowing with creativity and original talent. Not far away, the Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth is home to the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, and the city is home to the wonderful man, founder and superstar himself, Van Cliburn. Other noteworthy musicians who launched their careers from the rich recesses of Deep Ellum's unique culture scene include Blind Lemon Jefferson, Robert Johnson, Huddie "Leadbelly" Ledbetter and Bessie Smith.
One of our main goals as TakeLessons teachers is to help students grow. We teach students not only to find their voice, but to develop and refine their methods of expression. Every single individual I have worked with personally has expressed to me the positive effect that their voice lessons have had on their lives, sometimes in unexpected and amazing ways! Whether you are an experienced performer or have never taken a music lesson in your life, we at TakeLessons will find the right teacher for you and help you to reach your dreams through positive effort and encouragement.
Aristotle once said, "What we have to learn to do, we learn by doing." I encourage you take Dallas singing lessons to find your voice and with it the immense freedom, confidence, and personal growth that will accompany it. Find the voice that is yours and yours alone, and share it with the world!
We will learn vocal health care, anatomy of the breathing apparatus (how sound is formed and released from the body), proper breathing technique and exercises, warm-ups for tongue, lips and vowels, diction, pitch control exercises if necessary, find your range, then onto learning your favorite songs or genres.
I prefer to teach combination piano/voice, or guitar/voice, those students that wish to sing and accompany themselves with an instrument.
Lastly: Please come to me with long term goals of learning to sing, or enhancing your natural-born singing voice. Through my years of experience teaching voice, I have found many students come to me with delusions of grandeur - to attain fame from American Idol, The Voice or other types of entertainment shows. Please come to me because you love to sing and have, perhaps, professional goals and aspirations. It is a learning process, just like any instrument, and doesn't occur overnight, or after taking just four or five lessons.
Focus is on improving style, range, agility, flexibility and protecting your voice.
I've taught singing to children, teens, and adults since 2006. My Masters degree training has afforded me the opportunity to be well versed in effective vocal techniques that will help you succeed. My main goal is to help you to develop your own set of tools, and better understand your unique voice as an artist. Make sure to wear clothing you can move in during our sessions, and, most importantly, explore and just have fun!
