David M, M.Ed. grew up immersed in the music industry in the Muscle Shoals Alabama area where greats such as Cher, the Allman Brothers and Aretha Franklin got their start recording with the world renowned Muscle Shoals Sound. Click, here, to see the trailer for the documentary about the legendary "Muscle Shoals".
After playing piano professionally while in high school, David attended the University of Montevallo- Alabama's oldest and most respected music school and earned a Bachelor of Music Education in Piano and Voice. In fact, David studied classical piano with Dr. Robert Cowan of the i
nternationally acclaimed duo piano team- Yarbrough and Cowan and studied voice with Bruce Tolbert and Madame Baruvka- a world renowned European opera singer. Additionally, David was also a fellow classmate of the current Broadway diva, Rebecca Luker.
After graduating from Montevallo, David moved to Atlanta and starred in professional musical theatre while working as a public school choral music director and attending Georgia State University for Post Baccalaureate studies in Theatre. In fact, David completed some of his actor training at the HB Acting Studio in NYC.
Some of David's favorite roles include the Dentist in Little Shop of Horrors, Rudolfo in A View from the Bridge, Serge in The Food Chain, the teacher in School House Rock, Sky Masterson in Guys and Dolls, multiple characters in The Harvey Milk Show and Raywanda in Saga: The Story of Whitney Bonneville. David has been seen on stage at the 14th Street Playhouse, Neighborhood Playhouse, Actor's Express, Terrific New Theatre, the World Congress Center and the Crystal Pistol Theatre at Six Flags Over Georgia.
In 1995, David earned a Master of Education in Counseling from Georgia State University and completed 2 more years of additional Post Graduate studies in Counseling at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
After working in the public and private schools for a number of years, David combined his music, theatre and counseling experience into creating David M Artist Development in 2005. In fact, David is one of the only piano and voice teachers in the country who's been cross trained in the areas of music, theatre, education and psychology.
David particularly enjoys working with semiprofessional and professional musicians and actors in the Atlanta area looking to expand their knowledge, skills and experience and adults who've ignored their creative sides for most of their life while attending to family and career matters instead.

I have had an amazing experience with David. He has taken the time to truly get to know me and has set up our sessions based on what my goals are. He took his time to really understand what I needed to take my skills to a higher level. I feel that I was able to open up to him with total confidence and trust. I feel that he takes his time to really understand his students and mold his sessions to the needs of his students. I honestly feel that I have found a mentor who I will be reaching out to for all my needs.

Author and Motivator, Joyce Rennolds says...Phenomenal Results!
David, I am grateful to you for encouraging me to give up old beliefs about 'not being able to sing'. Since I am a Motivational Speaker and a New Thought Minister and teach an 'I can' attitude it never occurred to me to apply that idea to my singing voice. The results have been phenomenal. Thanks to your wonderful style of teaching I am now singing with confidence and poise in my church services. For my own pleasure I am becoming better and better at singing those wonderful Broadway tunes. Thank you for your encouragement, your professionalism, your unique style and your loving patience to work so diligently with me. You are the BEST!

Amazing Teacher and Gifted Musician
"I write this testimonial as a supporter of Mr. David Mashburn and his everlasting passion for implementing the love of music into young musicians like myself. I had the pleasure of being a student of Mr. Mashburn when I was in high school, and I can honestly say that experience helped enhance my skills as a pianist, singer and songwriter. His enthusiasm for the many faces of music, and his knowledge on how to properly develop oneâs talent allowed me to grow as an artist. Through my academic matriculation through Morehouse College, Mr. Mashburn inspired a passion for writing and composing that led me to form a songwriting team named, Nemesis, under the direction of Russell Carterâs Artist Management company. I would not have found this passion and skill without the help of Mr. Mashburn, as he was the first one to encourage songwriting by helping me combine my skills as a pianist, singer and lyricist. He has been a teacher, counselor, and a friend to me. I credit my future successes to the humble beginnings as a student of Mr. Mashburn, and I am forever grateful to him. I hope he continues to spread the love of music to musicians everywhere."
Theater Acting is a skill quite different from film acting. I have been teaching acting for three years. Build up repertoire, learn to dissect a character and a monologue, character development, finding a goal to become the character and deliver a line the right way.
Also encourage creating and writing your own work and researching others for inspiration.
Ali has had music in her life since she was in the crib. She has performed professionally in the musical theatre world and she has studied in several universities for Musical Theater, Jazz, Pop, Blues, and R&B. Since the age of sixteen, she has been selected to sing as a guest soloist for venues such as Spivey Hall, Georgia World Congress Center, and Georgia Tech Hotel Conference Center. Ali has also sung for many movies and recordings, and recently recorded a demo for David Foster, Barbra Streisand, and Andrea Bocelli and recently toured as a pianist for "The Women of Ireland." She is a rece
nt graduate of Berklee College of Music and earned her BM in Music Business and Vocal Performance cum laude studying under Magi Scott, Jeff Ramsey, Jerome Kyles, and Carolyn Escoffrey, Donna McElroy, Livingston Taylor, Joan Lader, and Charlie Sorrento.
Ali is also known for playing piano. She received her minor in Piano Performance within a year at Shorter College under Helen Ramsaur. She has been playing since she was five years old and has accompanied many people and musical productions.
Some of Ali's major influences include:
Linda Eder, Aretha Franklin, Jennifer Hudson, Lena Horne, Judy Garland, Whitney Houston, Billie Holliday, and Lara Fabian, Barbra Streisand
*** Lesson Details *** Ali loves to share her passion of music to the world and especially through her students. She loves to share new ideas and nuances along with the basics and fundamentals of technique. Although practice can be boring for the student, asking a student to pick at least one song to work on can help the student and the teacher have fun and learn at the same time. After a few months, not only will her students have fun, but they will learn how to be a better person and musician.
*** Studio Equipment *** Home Studio: Baby Grand Piano, Living room, Stands, metronome
*** Travel Equipment *** Just the music I assign and their appropriate instrument
*** Specialties *** For Acting: Meisner Piano: Just beginners- intermediate Voice: Anything you can think of and I'll do it

Dear Allie, We are so happy to have found you this summer. It is amazing to see Nicholas stay so focused and interested for an hour at the piano. His love of music seems to have grown since we started lessons with you. We really appreciate your capacity to adapt to his needs and to keep him excited. Thanks!
The mission of my studio is to create well-rounded, educated musicians who will always have a lifelong passion for the art no matter their long-term goals. I strive for my students to be:
(1) Lifelong learners who develop successful learning habits. (2) Creative and critical thinkers who will become effective communicators. (3) Responsible and respectful members of society who respect other cultures. (4) Able to set short-term and long-term goals and be able to see them through to their success.
It is of the utmost importance that my stude
nts are well-educated in their chosen instrument; they must know and understand music and music-making. Students who can play are a dime a dozen, but students who understand the music they are playing are often hard to find. I teach students to know music thoroughly, not just to “play.” I desire my students to comprehend elements of the score, to use their bodies effectively to make good sound, and to interpret music creatively and according to historical performance practices across all genres of music. Thus, I give students a purposeful education in technique, quality literature, performance and artistry, music theory, and music history.
Although students differ in ability and development, I maintain high expectations for our students. I expect attention and respect in lessons, faithful and diligent practice, careful adherence to instructions, and an “I’ll-do-my-best” attitude. If students regularly meet these expectations, then they will excel to the level that they are able. It is my joy to help students master their music, to do the best they can, and to strive for and achieve excellence.
Lastly, I want students to enjoy and appreciate their instrument, music, and music-making; and we know as teachers, we are very influential in making this happen. Students develop enjoyment of music by understanding music, experiencing success in music, being exposed to good and varied genres of music, and receiving instruction from a teacher who is enthusiastic and encouraging. It is our goal to provide all of these opportunities for students, and as a result their lives will be enriched as they enjoy their instrument.

Maria has been an absolute blessing for our family. Piano is something both my wife and I wanted for our children to learn, but having 4 boys where their interests are only video games and football, it can be difficult. Also since my wife and I are from from musical, we had absolutely no clue what to expect. We had gone through 3 other teachers where our kids didn't advance at all. Maria was our last try and we are so thankful for the referral.
Maria really connects with the boys and they absolutely love her. To top it off, she's very motivating, organized, and for the first time with any teacher, she had an action plan. We knew where are kids were with progress regularly. We also we informed how to keep them motivated at home and how to get them to practice. My oldest son (14) has gone through 3 levels in 1.5 years and has actually been asking about joining the jazz band at his school. My 3 other sons (6,8,9) have been steadily going through the levels and most importantly are able to apply what they are learning to music Maria doesn't teach them. My 8 year old was actually describing what a chord progression was the other day to his grandfather and used the word cadence. I had to google what that meant on my phone!
Her location is also perfect. As long as they have something to do, Maria doesn't mind them sitting in the living room while she teaches a lesson so it enables me to run to the grocery store or bank which are less than 2 miles from her home while the kids are in lessons.
We are extremely pleased with Maria and I would recommend her to anyone. She is worth every single penny. Our family will be moving to John's Creek this October and we will be making the drive once a week through Atlanta traffic happily.
I am a licensed Chiropractor but my first love is teaching and creating new things from old. My family owned and operated a daycare and after school facility for over 30 years. I grew up in the business and taught reading and science. art and dance. I have assisted private students in my home as long as I can remember and have helped students pass SAT, ACT and MCAT exams. I have taught reading as a second language. I enjoy seeing people learn and grow in confidence. I love a challenge! I was very impressed with Debora as a ballet instructor. She was very professional, and extremely gracious when I ran late to our first lesson on account of traffic and directions. She is very experienced and models correct form with incredible confidence and know-how. Debora was very patient, as I am a beginner, and I'm verygrateful for her willingness to teach. I highly recommend her as an instructor and admire her as a lovely person both inside and out.

Nathan was my director for a show in October 2013. His communication skills as a teacher, director, and collaborator made the process very enjoyabl
e and also allowed me to grow as an actor. He is an experienced professional who excels in working with both seasoned actors and those who may never have performed before. I gained a lot from working with him and highly recommend Nathan to anyone seeking a super fun, informative, and productive acting student experience!"

"I have known Dave for many years, and have worked within him onstage and off. In addition to being a respectful, down-to-earth person, Dave has a treasure
trove of invaluable expertise when it comes to acting and stage performance. As a director, Dave challenged us and brought us to new levels to create our absolute best performance. I am currently a K-12 Certified Theatre Teacher, and I would absolutely recommend Dave to anyone who is looking for an acting coach, teacher, or director."

"Whether it's getting his guidance at his Theatre Co's open workshops, watching him act on stage, seeing shows he has directed or getting one on one coachi

His ability to see, to feel and to guide an actor to the deeper parts of their own work are what makes him superior at all levels; if your a beginner or a seasoned veteran needing to work on improving your acting "back hand" Dave is the man to go to."

"I worked with Dave on two different plays. He directed me and I was very satisfied with working with him! He's welcome to suggestions, yet has a clear vis

"Rachel is very nice and willing to help. She takes time to get to know her students before working with them to get the most out of the lessons. This was
my first time ever taking lessons so I was a bit nervous but Rachel is super friendly and doesn't judge you on your ability. I also live on a college campus and she was willing to do the lessons on campus. Since I didn't have a way to get to her this was very awesome! I'm very excited for the lessons to come."

"I have had the pleasure of being one of Kelly’s students during my time as an undergraduate in Theatre Arts at the University of Minnesota. In the time th
at I was her student, and beyond that, I have nothing but positive things to say about her as an instructor in both her ability to teach and to relate to her students on a humble and personal level.
My first day with Kelly I could tell instantaneously that she was going to be something unique. And that is because she is perfectly honest about who she is and why she is instructing the material she does. So often, in the collegiate field, I come across professors who are willing to be personable with their students but with their own ends at the forefront of their minds; that is teaching the material as it appears in the book. Kelly operates on a different level - everything she does is to make her students not just learn the material at hand, but to understand, dig into, and critique it. She welcomes the ability to bring any opinion or process to accomplishing a goal in class (which takes an edge off of the need to fit a certain methodology of thought that many other classes lock themselves into). Working with Kelly is like talking to that one friend who you go to in order to share a really exciting idea because you know she will boundlessly support it, push you to realize what your exact goal is and how it works, then make you do it. Having her insight as a student, an artist, or in any form or group-problem solving is invaluable.
To speak further on her personality is beyond words. She is the kind of team member you can only dream of having. She is hard working, committed, light hearted, and understanding. Kelly has a great eye for standing back and seeing a whole picture and pin pointing what goes into it, and what could go into it to make a more realized work (be that artistically or academically). When I was in one of her classes, she worked privately and team-wide with me as we collaborated on the final project for the class, which involved composing and directing a scene that commented upon one of the works that we analyzed during the semester. During this collaborative process Kelly, as the instructor, was focused on understanding what our work was striving toward first before she ever commented on the quality and merits of what we were doing and how we were working. It was after she had met with all of us that she offered her own personal insight into what we could do to make a stronger piece, in a style as far away from a report card or teacher conference where they tell you everything wrong you did and how to make it better, she was telling us everything right we did and offering ways that she saw the piece being stronger.
The inviting energy that Kelly gives off no matter what task she is charged with is something truly electrifying, and her positive attitude is infectious. Any place of education, person looking for tutelage, artist, or co-worker would be remiss to not invite her on board.
It is with the utmost sincerity and pleasure that I recommend Kelly for any position in consideration for her."
