Drum Set: Jazz, Blues, Rock, Pop and World Music.
Originally from New York City, I started playing drums when I was 10 years old and studied with studio/Broadway drummer Roger Mancuso. After graduating from Ohio University, I studied and was managed by the famous studio drummer/author Gary Chester. As a full-time working musician I have played on many national commercials, Broadway, off-Broadway and off-off-Broadway shows. I was signed for three years to Carrere Records, a subsidiary of Warner Bros./Reprise Records. I have toured Europe and most of the USA with acts such as Luther Allison, Johnny Winter, Big Bill Morganfield, Bo Diddley, Joey Dee, Gary US Bonds, Zoot Sims, Jeremy Steig, Bobby Lewis, Alex Chilton (From The Box Tops), Eddie Brigati (From The Young Rascals), Johnny Rivers, Little Anthony (From The Imperials) and many more.
Learn to play drums by Ear!
I emphasize that I teach more on the basis of doing rather than by a book, although time is still well spent on learning fundamental techniques and rudiments etc that you will find in books. Drumming is an awesome mental and physical skill set to have. For many, it becomes a lifestyle. The more you enjoy the learning process, the more you will play/practice and the better you will become!
Depending on your skill level, lessons will focus on:
1) Learning and playing rudiments, which are a basis for not only coordination/ambidexterity and muscle memory, but also as a foundation for many fills and beats
2) Learning to listen to songs to learn beats (how to break down the beats and parts)
3) Learning beats/parts from songs you want to play (drumming is like learning a foreign language; repetition and imitation are key elements to mastery) because you are far more likely to spend the time necessary to practice when you are playing/learning to ...
I've been drumming for over 20 years and have loved every beat of it! I've learned to play by ear and will make you an accomplished drummer the same way. My biggest style influences are Buddy Rich, Ginger Baker, Carter Beauford, Jose Pasillas and Midorin of J.A.M. Drumming is supposed be fun and if book exercises bore you, come jam with me! My philosophy is that learning is best done by doing and drumming is no different. When drumming is fun and makes you feel good, you are far more likely to practice, progress and achieve an impressive skill set, hobby and outlet for your creativity!
I have about two years of experience teaching drums. My curriculum (that is, my teaching plan) is tailored to the student. You inform me of the results you desire, and I design my lessons on getting you (or your drum student) to that goal. If you are looking to sharpen your skills in general, I can help you there as well. I including reading sheet music into my lessons, both to appeal to visual learners and to enable students' practice between lessons.
I have performing drums regularly for about 15 years, mostly at church, but other gigs as well. (see a video at http://www.bandmix.com/wakeupjacob/) My forte is rock and pop, but I did do a semester of jazz band, so I can help beginners in Latin and Jazz. I studied for a degree in Elementary Education, but it was not what I imagined it would be, so I moved on to other things.

"My daughter's wedding was weeks away and I had never been able to dance a step. With Jenny's help, I came further than ever before in such short time in any subject."
