John S.

Lancaster, OH

Beginner through intermediate snare drum (hand development), drum set (various musical styles).

About John

I have been interested in drums for as long as I can remember. When I was very young I remember trying to imitate drummers from the bands I was listening to at the time. I had a toy field goal kicker that would kick a ball through the goal posts when I pressed down on the player's helmet. I remember taking the goal posts apart and using them as drumsticks. I would use those "drumsticks" to play on the side of my bed when listening to my favorite drummers. My interest in drumming hasn't diminished at all since those days. I joined the school band program when I was in the fifth grade and I have played the drums for over 30 years in a variety of musical settings such as marching band, symphonic band, jazz band, worship team and home recording. A group of neighbors and schoolmates ...

First thing,John and his family are very nice people.Being a little older person looking to play as a hobby. I still knew that in order to even be a decent drummer, you have to learn the fundamentals first.John in my opinion is like a professor of the drums.Like anything worth anything in life,it takes lots of hard work and practice in order to come close to perfection.John has the knowledge to give you all the tools that you need to strive towards that perfection.

John is a wonderful drum instructor. I was very interested in learning the underlying drum structure and rudiments before progressing on into other complicated drum techniques. His teaching style is perfect for everyone from a beginner to an advanced player. He has an in depth knowledge of the drumming industry from his own personal experiences and from teaching as well. He is able to communicate in such a way that is very easy to understand for both the lessons and the practice homework. I highly recommend John!

John is great! He has a lot of patience with my son. My son is eight and a beginner.
Nice clean house, with a good learning environment. My son looks forward to his lessons and practice because of John's enthusiasm.

Top Notch

I have known Doug for several years. I have seen him perform live in concert and listened to his recorded material. I believe that Doug would make a great teacher for both the novice and the advanced student. His knowledge of drum and percussion techniques is top notch.

Learn to play drums by Ear!

I emphasize that I teach more on the basis of doing rather than by a book, although time is still well spent on learning fundamental techniques and rudiments etc that you will find in books. Drumming is an awesome mental and physical skill set to have. For many, it becomes a lifestyle. The more you enjoy the learning process, the more you will play/practice and the better you will become!

Depending on your skill level, lessons will focus on:

1) Learning and playing rudiments, which are a basis for not only coordination/ambidexterity and muscle memory, but also as a foundation for many fills and beats

2) Learning to listen to songs to learn beats (how to break down the beats and parts)

3) Learning beats/parts from songs you want to play (drumming is like learning a foreign language; repetition and imitation are key elements to mastery) because you are far more likely to spend the time necessary to practice when you are playing/learning to ...

About Chris

I've been drumming for over 20 years and have loved every beat of it! I've learned to play by ear and will make you an accomplished drummer the same way. My biggest style influences are Buddy Rich, Ginger Baker, Carter Beauford, Jose Pasillas and Midorin of J.A.M. Drumming is supposed be fun and if book exercises bore you, come jam with me! My philosophy is that learning is best done by doing and drumming is no different. When drumming is fun and makes you feel good, you are far more likely to practice, progress and achieve an impressive skill set, hobby and outlet for your creativity!

Jacob C.

Westerville, OH

I have about two years of experience teaching drums. My curriculum (that is, my teaching plan) is tailored to the student. You inform me of the results you desire, and I design my lessons on getting you (or your drum student) to that goal. If you are looking to sharpen your skills in general, I can help you there as well. I including reading sheet music into my lessons, both to appeal to visual learners and to enable students' practice between lessons.

About Jacob

I have performing drums regularly for about 15 years, mostly at church, but other gigs as well. (see a video at My forte is rock and pop, but I did do a semester of jazz band, so I can help beginners in Latin and Jazz. I studied for a degree in Elementary Education, but it was not what I imagined it would be, so I moved on to other things.
