Jeff began playing guitar at the age of ten. His very first performance was in the fifth grade, performing in a rock band. In high school he sang in the concert choir, chamber ensemble and studied music theory piano and classical guitar. After high school, Jeff obtained a Bachelor and Masters Degree in Music Composition from Virginia Commonwealth University and continued classical guitar studies with Jesus Silva who studied with Andres Segovia. After graduating college, he directed the guitar program at J Sergeant Reynolds Community College for nearly a decade, receiving a faculty recognition and achievement award for five or more years of outstanding service. With over 10 years of experience as a professional musician and a Bachelor of Music Degree from VCU, I prefer to teach music by coming at it from an angle my student is excited about. Whether that means the music of The Beatles, Taylor Swift, AC/DC, or anything else, people progress quickly when they love what they are learning! My experience covers all styles of music, with special expertise in rock, pop, jazz, and blues. I also have an additional expertise in improvisation in these styles with experience with country, bluegrass, funk, metal, and classical guitar.
I first fell in love with music at the age of 7 after hearing Led Zeppelin's "Black Dog". I soon after received my first guitar and started learning all of my favorite classic rock songs.
