Tracy B. Berwyn, IL

Celtic music with all the customary ornamentation (trills, turns, glissandos and grace notes) is a huge favorite with many of my fiddle students. We also love our standard Appalachian tunes - Devil's Dream / Cripple Creek along with beautiful ballads such as Ashoken Farewell.

About Tracy

I have been teaching individual and group lessons for 12+ years. Many of my students have won trophies at the Granquist music competition and also play in local youth orchestras. My own youth string ensemble plays publicly at many popular local venues several times a year. I enjoy exposing my students to the finer points of being a professional musician such as the camaraderie, team work, creativity (creating harmonies, tailoring arrangements to fit student’s level) and of course, stage presence. I am very proud of my students. It is so gratifying to see their confidence build with each new skill they master. *** Lesson Details *** My approach to teaching is to combine fundamentals with “adventure.” I encourage students to experiment with their instrument and have quite a few budding ...

Mr. Kelvin is a passionate musician, best that I've known. His lessons are not boring and always go by in a flash. He is good at identifying problems that needs correction and he will point them out consistently until rectified. Mr. Kelvin demystifies Lightroom and the layering process. He has taught me how to edit with ease. He makes sure you understand what he has done before moving on and is generous with his time when you have questions. Whether you are a beginner or a pro, Kelvin moves at YOUR pace and does not move on until you fully understand the task at hand. I will continue classes with Mr. Kelvin for the foreseeable future. He is a pleasure to work with. He is a very intelligent, kind and understanding mentor. I would recommend him to anyone. :)

Ms. Isabelle is patient and able to reach my wiggly, Star Wars-obsessed kid where he is. She is a great communicator and keeps things interesting for him, while also pushing him to work to best of his ability. She is clear about her goals for his musicianship. She expects him to not just learn the songs, but to play beautifully. She models professionalism and respect during her lessons.

About David

Hello, My name is David S. and I am 22 years old. Thank you for visiting my profile! I am originally from Aurora, IL but currently live in Chicago in the Buena Park area. I am a recent graduate of DePaul University where I received my Bachelor's degree in Cello Performance. There I studied with Stephen Balderston, former assistant principal of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. I began my piano studies* in a Yamaha Piano studio at age five and continued private lessons for eight years. Then I shifted my attention to the cello, which I started in a public school when I was in fourth grade. I began my violin and viola studies in high school during a period I broke my wrist and couldn't hold my cello with a cast! *I attribute my versatility as a string player to my many years of piano

About Silvia

I have been teaching since I was 17 years old, so this has become a passion very dear to me. I manage to engage and motivate my students in each lesson, by providing them with the guidance they need, and making it enjoyable and fun rather than tedious . Learning so much from great teachers have changed my life and approach to music, so I feel honored I can now do the same with my own students, encouraging them to improve and develop new skills that will take them to the next level in the process of learning. *** Lesson Details *** I like to use the Suzuki method for beginners, combined with Essential Elements. Etude and Scale books are also helpful. All these can build a solid technique that will allow students to express themselves and communicate through music. As I go along with a ...

a patient and knowledgeable teacher

I am an older adult who is taking violin lessons for fun. Silvia was a remarkable teacher. First of all her ability to detect when I was a teeny bit out of tune was freaky! She has an amazing ear. She has a toolbox of techniques to help learn a new piece. And did I mention her patience? I am sad that we are no longer in the same region so that I can continue to take lessons from her.

I did go to several performances of hers and master classes she participated in and am in awe of her talent.

I believe she would be an excellent teacher for just about anyone wanting to learn to play strings and I recommend her whole heartedly.

Fantastic Teacher!

I studied with Silvia Suarez over the summer of 2013 for 7 weeks, and I improved so much because of how helpful she was! She always knew how to take my playing to a higher level than before. Wether it was a better bowing/fingering, or my phrasing, her suggestions were always so helpful. I'm very glad I got the chance to study with her over the summer; I wouldn't be the same player without her help. I highly suggest taking from her, you will not regret it!

Libby W. Chicago, IL

I am experienced in classical styles but am knowledgeable in the old time genre, as well! Let's play some tunes!

About Libby

Hello! I am 20 years old and have been playing the violin since age 4. I'm currently majoring in Violin Performance at DePaul University. In addition to studying classical in my formative years, I also took lessons in old time fiddle. I have most of my experience teaching students who already understand the very basics of music reading, however, I have also successfully taught this skill. I prefer to teach at DePaul or in other public spaces such as schools, churches, or community centers (for safety reasons), but I'm open to other location suggestions and can move students to my home studio after our first meeting.
