Basics similar to classical.
Hey there musicians to be. I'm Jamie! Guitar player for 14 years. I've played all styles, from Jewel to Lamb of God to Mozart to BB King. No matter what you want to learn, I can teach it. No polka though : ) I've had years of lessons myself that provided that push and input I needed to grow on my instrument. Not just guitar too, I've played tuba, trombone, even sang in school choir up into college. Speaking of college, I attended Macomb community for a couple years taking classes in theory and classical guitar. Also, I went to Berklee school of music in Boston for their summer sessions, I highly recommend it if you want to learn a lot real fast . It is THE guitar college, wish I had the money for it. BTW they placed me in advanced classes when I was 15 years old : ) smirk
I can say that Flamenco guitar is one of my personal favorites as a style to play and to teach.
Much rooted in classical guitar techniques; but also very individual in approach and nuances; as well as rhythmically much more firey and eastern rooted.
I've been playing for 29 years, and teaching for 22. I’m both a professional musician/songwriter; as well as a professional, experienced, and diverse guitar instructor. I teach all styles; from finger picking classical and flamenco guitar, to all rock(from classic to indie), jazz, world music styles, etc. I also teach bass; as well as Mediterranean instruments such as the Greek Bouzouki. All ages are welcome. Some insight into my teaching method: I teach sight reading notation, and all general theory; as well as general guitar tab; from the simplest songs for young students, to complex classical guitar and jazz improvisation. I started playing at 12 years old, have won numerous awards; locally and nationally; and have written and recorded in a wide variety of styles. I also front ...
rasgueado is the quick down/up percussive strumming you'll hear in flamboyant guitar music
I teach all styles of guitar, as I have been in many different types of music situations: Soloist (Classical) Ensemble (Classical and Jazz) Lead and Rhythm (Various Rock and Roll bands) Songwriting and Recording. I am a people person that learned the guitar from many different sources. Most of my learning came from watching others and communicating with others. I like to learn about the people I am teaching so that I can better understand their needs as a musician. My education came as a practical necessity in order to get better as a teacher and performer, as well as make a living doing it. But, by no means do I preach the need to be "educated" but only to be a working, practical musician. I will surely go over the need to read music once the need becomes evident, enlighten you as to ...
My name is James and I am a professional multi-instrumentalist/composer from the metro-Detroit area. I've recently completed my B.Mus. Degree from Wayne State University, concentrating in Jazz Studies with a minor in Music Theory/Composition. I've worked as a private and group lesson teacher in and around Detroit for the last ten years and have more recently started directing choirs and musical theater casts with ages ranging from 4-approx. 90. My experience started at 3 years old with learning and performing Traditional Arabic music, and eventually moved on to American folk, Rock, Jazz, and Classical finally landing me in Wayne State's college of music. I learned completely by rote, and didn't learn to read music until I was 18 years old. This has given me a firm appreciation for ...
