Justin P. Fairfax, VA

I think every musician should be composing no matter what level they are at on their instrument. It is important for personally growth musically and in general.

About Justin

I understand that there are many desires a pupil can have about learning music, especially towards the practicality of the modern world and I hope to gear the student towards that. I have worked with children for almost a decade so I am comfortable with youth education. My experience with working with children is mostly with the Boy Scouts of America since I was 14. From teaching scouts about nature, to directing shooting ranges as an NRA Rifle Safety Officer, to eventually managing a camp. As a young adult who has just finished their music degree from collage and working to further my education, I can understand the process of learning a musical instrument and guide the student on a smoother path to their goals. *** Lesson Details *** When taking lessons with me, you can expect ...

Justin is a natural teacher!!

I had a great experience learning under Justin's guidance. He really took the time to learn how much understanding I had of my instrument before he started teaching, so he knew exactly what I needed more work on. I can see he definitely tailors lessons for each individual student's needs. He was patient and introduced new ways of learning that really helped me grasp the material. Although he sticks to a general lesson-plan for each session, he gave me plenty of freedom to play around and jam. I would recommend him to anybody, and have already referred him to some friends. If you're looking for a professional, yet fun and relaxed teacher, you've found him!
John N. Chantilly, VA

Having written many songs, both for demos and my album, I can teach lyric choice, vocal and guitar phrasing and common pitfalls for songwriters.

About John

I have been playing guitar and bass for over 35 years and traveled the world playing concerts in Clubs and Stadiums. My band ESTUS was signed to Columbia Records by Clive Davis, I played with the Eddie Kirkland Blues Band, formed Fat City in Woodstock NY, and played toured nationally with Quicksilver Messenger Service. Currently I play in RSB, the Rick Sickmen Band, and teach at the School of Rock in Vienna. I want to share my knowledge and extensive experience with students to 'play it forward' while having fun. *** Lesson Details *** From beginners to experienced players everyone has their own goals and style of learning. I will try to have my students playing songs as soon as possible, in the style (rock, blues, country) that they want, while teaching some basic music theory to build

I have been learning guitar with John for past 3 months and it is a great experience. John is very knowledgeable and patient to guide me with the much more efficient path to learn play with songs. I was trying to learn from books and YouTube videos for past 1 year, but much more improvements were made after two lessons with John! I also love his teaching styles very much: trying to explain WHY things work the way it is (e.g., music theory) instead of give a lot of "recipe level" exercises you can get from a book. I would strongly recommend him as a guitar teacher to any level!

I'm about to have my forth lesson with John and I must say he is an amazing musician and an amazing guitar teacher. In the last four weeks, John and I have been working on blues guitar licks. I've been playing at the same level for years. John has changed that for me immediately after our first lesson. He has made a huge difference in my playing and my approach to the guitar.

After I finish writing this review, I will be signing up for additional lessons.

Thanks John

Wonderful instructor

I chose John because of his extensive experience as a professional musician and recommend him highly if you are looking for a great instructor. If his patience with this 44 year old starting musician is any indication, I'm certain he's good with anyone at any age!

About Aleksis

My name is Aleksis B., but many of my students know me as Mr. B. I am a professional instructor and performing musician who combines a love of music with a desire to help others who want to achieve their highest musical potential. I try to make that passion show in everything I do. My education includes classical voice training with Michele Howard Hansen, an opera singer that often performs at the Kennedy Center. I studied piano with Geoffrey Chappell, who writes for Jazz Times. I also received compositional training on multiple instruments from Stanley Cowell, who recorded and performed with legends like Miles Davis. I have been performing professionally since 1992. I studied education in college and did my student teaching in a music class at Goshen Elementary School in ...

Aleksis has been the best teacher (in any subject) that I've ever had! He's very calm and patient, but also stays focused on teaching. Every time I have a question he has a good answer, proving to me that he is very knowledgeable.

Most importantly the results of his instruction have been excellent. I've made more progress under his tutelage in two months than I've made over a couple of years on my own.

An excellent teacher and very affable, I can only think of good things to write about Mr. Aleksis!

Learning at my age!

I started singing backup vocals in a band and at the age of 57 it's not easy. Alexis has been great. He is very patient, kind and encouraging. I enjoy our lessons and feel he is getting the best of my abilities.
I'm having a great time.

Geoff S. Fairfax, VA

Experienced in contemporary song writing, as well as writing and arranging music for church worship music, choral music, strings, and classical guitar. Experienced in both playing and recording by ear, as well as writing down formal music charts and scores.

About Geoff

I played on a toy piano when I was very young, learning a bit of sight reading from my Mother, while listening to classical, jazz, and rock music. When I was 12, I learned guitar and later took private piano lessons from a prominent Philadelphia instructor. After playing in a rock band in high school, I went to college and received my degree in Physics. During this time, I joined a choir, and sang and played guitar in a contemporary vocal group where I became the lead guitarist and vocal arranger, and later became the director. I also played guitar in my church, as well as in a small folk group, performing music of the Beatles, Bacharach, Crosby, Stills, and Nash, and many others. I also played or sung in a number of weddings during my college days. Upon graduation, I moved to ...

If you're interested in studying classical guitar you know that it is both difficult and important to find a quality guitar instruction. Look no further. Geoff is fantastic. His daily exercises for guitar have helped improve my technique dramatically. I'm so glad I found him and had an opportunity to work with him.

I am enjoying my lessons. You are being extra patient with me I suspect. My practices since our last have gone better I think. I think I am picking up things better. I practiced quite a lot today. Every commercial break in the football game as well as half time. See you in two weeks. Thanks

Miles is fantastic!

Miles is great at working with my 11 year old on both what she wants to learn and what she needs to learn; he ensures the right balance of theory and contemporary music to keep her interested. We move a lot and have had other piano teachers over the last several years, but Miles is top notch. His calm demeanor and endless patience is much appreciated in this house! Hope he continues to teach my daughter for years to come.

I've had a great time learning with Lena. She's very nice and extremely patient. She mixes music theory with hands-on practice during each lesson. I was playing music (terribly) with her by the end of the first lesson. Every lesson I've walked away with enough information to keep me hungry to learn more.
