Songwriting is a craft and must be approached as such. The study of almost all forms of music reveal certain similarities that all the masters (be they classical to pop) have either intuited or understood. I can help you to understand these concepts and lead you to better songwriting very quickly

As a novice piano playing student, I was introduced to reading music as well as playing the piano by Buzz Amato, a great pianist and instructor. I would be remiss if I did not share how wonderful my piano lessons have been under the many talents Buzz offers as a piano instructor. His ability to convey concepts/theories of piano playing into understandable and applicable practice has made my learning experience enjoyable. Buzz is a good listener, very patient and observant, and acquires an innate gift to teach piano playing in ways that encourage me to continue my lessons. Buzz is a highly skilled piano instructor.

So, Buzz is pretty much the best! I’m an adult with a full-time career and no musical background, and I've been looking around off and on for years to find a teacher who wasn't stuffy and was open to a non-traditional student with a semi-crazy work-life schedule. Buzz is patient, flexible, and really breaks down the lessons in ways that make sense to my logical thinking. I always walk away feeling that I learned something new and excited to learn more, which I feel is the biggest testament to his teaching skills. His expertise in music theory has really inspired me to do more than simply learn how to read music, too, and I have no doubt that I’ll be taking lessons with him for a long time to come. Plus he’s hilarious, so that helps.

WE LOVE OUR DRUM INSTRUCTOR! My son was an extremely high energy very distracted five year old when we started lessons with Mr. Al. Let's just say that my son is not an easy student, but our son had already developed an obsessive attachment to music, most intensely to drums. We expected someone would be able to teach him drums, but we also got someone who is patient, flexible, understanding, and always respectful and kind to our son. We see Mr. Al in his home studio, and at now at seven years old, Joey's skill has definitely progressed. In fact, his learning has a momentum that our entire family can see. But Mr. Al has given Joey so much more than just that. Joey's love of music has flourished beyond measure. Joey now tells Mr. Al that he loves him after every lesson, WOW! We have been so pleased that my seventeen year old daughter now also takes lessons with Mr. Al too. Mr. Al is the perfect instructor for us. My kids think he's cool, and we think he's just fantastic all the way around!

One of the Best

I have studied with several instructors, and I found Al to be the best. He not only knows his craft and takes pride in it, but he has a unique way of connecting with his students.

He listens, observes, and then starts to create a curriculum that is specific to the student. He can then convey this material in a manner that is fun, easily understood, and constructive.

I would highly recommend Al as an instructor.

MY daughter loves playing!!

I tried to teach my daughter, Rose, how to play the guitar and I couldn't get her to follow through with her lessons. Al has made the guitar fun for her. She'll play AT LEAST an hour a day now, learning songs given to her and playing warm-ups like scales.

Al also teaches music theory so Rose understands music more. Any teacher that gets a student that excited is doing something right.

Learning to write songs is an integral part of my method, for every student. Understanding song structure, learning to count measures in songs, analyzing phrasing (patterns in chords and melody), and basic lyric analysis are all a part of this process. Putting what you learn together in your own voice is the fun part!

About S. Parker

Music became my life when I found a dusty guitar in the storage room at age 10. I owe a lot of really cool experiences to the guitar and so many of them center around learning. Teaching is fun and rewarding, but it is also my way of thanking the great teachers I've had. -Studied Music Theory/Composition at Metropolitan State College of Denver -Won a scholarship to the 2001 Summer Guitar Program at Berklee College of Music in Boston -Frequent substitute at Arapahoe Community College (2004-2005) -Teacher at St. Mary's Academy Middle School (2008-2013) -Active member of Onsombley guitar ensemble -Songwriter, Vocalist, Guitarist in The Penny Dreadfuls -Creator of "Strum by Strum" -Takelessons teacher since 2008 *** Lesson Details *** The ...

In the few short months I have been with Parker, I have first and foremost have learned patience- Something a self taught guitarist does not have.

He sets a solid foundation, very crucial to making progress, enabling me to take simple practice pieces to showmanship quality.

He also teaches the student how to better teach ourselves with an intuitiveness to direct them to where they need to go to achieve their goals.

I've never been more wholly dedicated to my practices, nor have seen such advancement in my playing, for which I am truly grateful!

I started writing songs at age 7. I recorded my first song at age 16. I use theory and chord progressions with my instrumental students to help develop their own style sometimes by only adding suggestions. I teach a rock camp in the summertime where kids age 7-15 come out and learn to write original music and perform it on stage in only a week.

About David

Since beginning his teaching career in 1974 David has taught 7000 people how to play guitar! Some aspiring only to play at home for fun and others to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. David F. has also taught advanced guitar and music theory to several professional musicians who already play other instruments fluently including Oscar nominee Scott Rogness, who co-wrote and performed the songs featured in the movie That Thing You Do. Scott had this to say about his study with David: "I studied with David for about 8 months. Although proficient on keyboards, a singer and songwriter; I had never learned the guitar. I knew a lot about the guitar by osmosis, but technically was green. David let me look at the guitar in a whole new way, using infinite variations on basic

I have increased my lesson frequency to two one-hour sessions per week simply because of my progress under David's direction. After only three months of weekly lessons, I can now read music and play while reading. David has introduced me to effective melodic soloing, has significantly improved my understanding of barre chords up and down the fretboard, and has convinced me to abandon "guitaristic" thinking in favor of really understanding the potential of the guitar beyond shape memorization.

For those players serious about music, who are willing to devote the time and attention required to improve, and who appreciate not only learning to play guitar but the theory and history behind the music, David is your man. I have taken lessons in the past, usually consisting of a teacher asking what riffs I wanted to work on that day. Sound familiar? Not David. Within the first two weeks, he has me focused on plucking the strings with more feel, using a pick and fingers simultaneously with my right hand, practicing scales to the tempo of a metronome while using the forwards and backwards technique, etc. He has convinced me that I can become as accomplished a player as I put my mind and heart to. His mantra is to work towards playing at the speed of thought, which, for the first time in my life, looks to be a possibility with time. Thank you, David.

Songwriting is one of my biggest passion, so I keep pushing my students to create their original work rather then copying other artists.
I've helped a vast number of singers to write their first song and assisted them to find a way to record it.

About Val

Whether you are an experienced musician or just in the beginning of your educational journey, I perhaps, can help you to advance you potentials and bring your skills to the next level. First and foremost I am an expert in teaching voice. Not many teachers in Chicago have clients that are currently topping Billboard charts and get signed by major record labels. I do!!! I taught in Paris, Barcelona, Dubai and New York and have an extensive experience in working with a wide variety of musical genres including Pop, R&B, JAZZ, Rock, Country, Musical Theatre, Gospel and last but not least Classical, which I can proudly can call my background. We're searching for our own voice, for the greatest version of ourselves. With lifelong experience and his own personal library of exercises hardwired into his brain, Val is the perfect instructor to lead us to the promise land. His ability to dissect what is happening inside our vocal instrument is uncanny, and he packs the ability to translate this to the student effectively. Each lesson is customized to the needs of the student, and he also involves music theory when necessary to better help us understand and visualize the task at hand.

In my time spent with Val, I have seen week to week improvements both as a singer and as a song writer. I am grateful to have connected with Val as I am excelling in my craft each day and taking the steps to reach the potential he sees in me as a vocalist and musician.

I started just about 3 months ago. I'm 53 and never sang before. (Mouthed the words when the nuns made the class sing in grade school). I always thought that being a singer was an instinctive talent. Now I believe that with Val's help and guidance I can become a singer. I can feel and hear my voice developing. It will take time, but I have the confidence that it can happen based upon my progress so far.
