I am a freelance oboe and English horn player in the Chicagoland area. I have a Master of Music in Oboe Performance from Northern Illinois University and have been teaching for over 8 years. Music should be accessible to everyone and my teaching philosophy is to promote music understanding and education so the student can enjoy music for the rest of their life.
I am a freelance oboe and English horn player in the Chicagoland area. I have a Master of Music in Oboe Performance from Northern Illinois University. I most recently studied under Ricardo Castaneda the principal oboe of the Chicago Sinfonietta. I am a member of the Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra and also teach piano and theater arts.
My goal is to help students forge a positive relationship with the oboe and the experience of making music. I've been playing for over 13 years with 4 years of intensive teaching experience and a conservatory degree.
No two students are the same, so I operate according to each person's goals, whether they're learning for their own enjoyment or planning a career. I'm experienced in a plethora of genres, so whatever you want to do with the oboe, I have the skills, the time and the experience to help you make it happen.
When I started learning oboe at age 10 I was told by my band director that it was going to be too difficult and not worth the trouble. The oboe may be slightly more difficult to start out with than the other instruments, but it is also more rewarding. What it lacks in ease it makes up for in beauty and character. I want to make sure that no one misses out on the joy of this instrument out of intimidation! Having an experienced teacher and reedmaker to help is essential, and I will gladly offer my skills to anyone interested in the instrument at any age or stage of development. With the right instructor, learning the oboe is no more difficult than any other woodwind. I have been the oboe teacher at Camp Encore/Coda for three years and a counselor for many more. During that time I ...
