Hi! My name is Marni and I am an accomplished vocalist and Voice teacher who has traveled the world to perfect my craft. I have a Bachelors Degree in Vocal Performance along with a Master's Degree in Education and have performed on stages around the world including Carnegie Hall in NYC, Canterbury Cathedral an Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. For more than ten years, I have taught both in private voice studios and have instructed students in public schools as well and am a certified Educator in the state of New Jersey.

ing breath support, tone, pitch, posture and more! The "Bel Canto" style of singing is taught in all cases no matter what style of music. Many, many of my students have gone on to place in the renowned Bergen County, North Jersey Regional, and All State Choruses and consistently receive leading roles in school, community, and regional theater productions! I've also had students who have gone on to have their rock and heavy metal bands place in local and regional band competitions and be signed!

*** Lesson Details *** Our lessons will be filled with music, support, encouragement and success! I teach to the whole student and we will get to know one another well so I can tailor your lesson specifically to your needs, goals and dreams! By taking lessons, you are taking an amazing step to improve not only your skills as a performer but also your self esteem! When you become better at an instrument or your voice improves so will your outlook! Its a natural fit!
Within 3-6 months, you'll have learned many standard warm-ups and vocalises that you can have in your back pocket for any opportunity that comes your way. If you are a singer, you will have learned how to breathe correctly for singing and implemented great technique into the style music of your choice. You will also have learned quite a few songs, starting from simple to more advanced as we go along!
For the beginner piano student, we will begin understanding basic Music Theory and scales. We will work on finger position and learn basic tunes starting with one hand at a time. soon you'll be learning how to play simple songs with both hands and accompany yourself as you sing along!
For singers, we'll learn about vocal techniques, breathing, relaxation and getting your best vocal sound and discovering how to perform a song with great diction and presence! We'll also learn performance techniques, how to work with a microphone, have a great stage presence in front of a live audience and begin learning how to read music and even get familiar with the piano keyboard!
All of my current students will say that they enjoy our lessons because each one is tailored to the individual and their goals. Its a wonderful and exciting journey that we embark upon together! I love seeing my students progress and learn over the course of our time together!
I encourage all of my students to get out and perform and i'm ALWAYS looking for opportunities for my students to do just that (unpaid AND paid!). Since music is a performing art I try to schedule two recitals a year with my students. These recitals are completely optional (but encouraged!) and take place in a local church hall or other performing space. They are done is a low stress and fun way ...and afterwards, i always provide some sweet treats for the parents and students that attend! Its a super fun way to display how hard my students have been working! Each student leaves the recital with their name and piece in a printed program and a certificate!
My studio is located in a safe, family home on a quiet street with ample street parking. The home is a smoke-free environment. We have a cute little Shih Tzu but not to worry if you have any allergies. He stays in his house downstairs and away from the studio and he never enters the studio room.

My background includes ten years of classical training with Maestro Julio Berrocal, as well as vocal training through the Feldekrais approach with Marcy Lindhiemer. *** Lesson Details *** Voice I am an empathetic teacher, sensitive to the students individual process of learning. My singing lessons usually start with breathing and relaxation exercises. Vocal exercise come next, then when the student is fully warmed up, we will begin to work on songs. It is important that the student be part of the process of picking material since the more they personally respond to the material the more apt they are to be engaged in their lessons and the more quickly they will learn. After three to six months they will understand the fundamentals of breathing and relaxation and its importance to proper vocal training. They will have begun the process of extending their range and will understand the principles of performance in song. Acting As an acting teacher and coach, I tailor my classes to the needs of each student. I utilize improvisatory and sensory techniques to help unleash spontaneity. I also encourage the students to use their personal experiences as a way to access a full range of emotions. I enjoy working with the student on script analysis, so as to discover the underlying motivations of the character the student is working on. Creative and Lyric Writing I use prompts as a way to get the student writing. Often, I will ask the student to write for stretches of time without editing themselves. It is important to unleash imagination before beginning the process of editing. Many times it is the unexpected that is the must compelling.

I believe that good singing and healthy speech are related. It is essential for an actor to be comfortable with vocal production from speech into to singing. I have been able to help non-performer, business types feel more confident in speaking situations.
Peter Van D. began teaching in New York City in the early 1990’s. In 1994, he was invited to join the faculty of New York University’s Collaborative Arts Project 21. Best thing to happen to my voice
Peter has been the best thing to ever happen to my voice. I started studying with Peter freshman year of college and I still see him regularly 6 years later. He took my completely untrained voice and helped me find, not only technique but also confidence in myself and my abilities. If it weren't for him I would not be pursuing musical theatre as a career. I would also not be booking jobs professionally. I owe my current and future musical theatre career to him. GO SING WITH HIM!!!

A Superb and Supportive Teacher!
Peter is by far the best voice teacher I ever had. I have a very multi-faceted personality and very multi-faceted voice. I was struggling to find my true voice after being told I was everything from a mezzo to a coloratura soprano. Unlike some teachers who heard a certain part of my voice and were determined to place me in a box based only that one part, Peter would always tell me to let my voice do what it wants to do. I have never felt like he ever took offense if I decided something I was working on was not right for me. He has only ever been completely open and supportive if I wanted to try something. He is the first teacher who let me go to my extremes, just to touch upon all the colors of my voice, and then he helps me find balance and settle into my true voice.
My voice is still a work in progress, but he has helped me so much, with his expert knowledge of vocal production and how the body can affect the sound being produced, with his open, "let's try it" energy but also with the right amount of guidance so that I'm not just floating all over the place. He has guided me to quite a few of the best pieces I have ever sung because of his incredible intuition about what would suit my voice. He is well-versed in repertoire and he is a very strong pianist.
He's also been supportive in other ways, suggesting books on auditioning and breathing, and sharing articles about the voice and about physical health as well (the winter can be hard on a voice!). He's by far just the best teacher I have ever had, and worth every single penny! There aren't enough words to show how much I consider Peter to be an all-around amazing teacher.
For anyone that needs to have their breath and vocals working properly under the stress of public speaking will learn how to breath property, speak with confidence and conviction, resonance and a sense of commitment. I teach what it takes to be prepared for that special speech. These skills eradicate stage fright and performance anxiety.
Marjorie has taught beginners to advanced students of all ages in every vocal style including Opera, Classical, Musical Theatre, Pop, Jazz, Folk, Rock, R&B and Gospel at Hunter College, New York University, La Guardia Community College, The Learning Annex as well as her private vocal studio in NYC for the past 25 years.
Marjorie received her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Georgia and a Special Studies Award in Voice and Opera from the Eastman School of Music. Marjorie has sung at Venice's Grand Teatro La Fenice, Carnegie Hall in NY, Rome's Teatro dell'Opera, Cagliari's

When I first came to Marjorie it was to see if I could start to work on adding some natural vibrato after years of straight-tone choral singing. I was feeling very discouraged and worried that maybe I just didn't have any natural vibrato at all.
When the lesson started, one of the first things Marjorie said to me was, "You're not singing straight-tone. I can hear your vibrato in there, but we need to set it free." In just a few more lessons we were already stripping away years of bad habits from choral blending, and I was thrilled to start to feel my vocal chords phonating easily and naturally.
Fast-forward several months and my confidence -- and love for singing -- continue to grow. I'm so amazed with Marjorie's patience and faith in me and just thrilled that she was able to break through 10 years of bad habits and set free my natural sound!

Shakespearean Acting ·
I was always afraid I couldn't learn Shakespeare, but Nicholas explained the intent on the word, the intent on the line. Soon, I was so caught up in the meaning of the lines and the story I was telling in that moment that I was able to engage in the role, smoothly, without worrying that I was performing Shakespeare. He broke it down so I could understand it, and then feel confident doing it. Highly recommend!

Nicholas knows Shakespeare and classical work. He really works with the text and helps an actor really understand the emotions in the scene, through the text. I've gotten so much out of his teaching and so have many of my friends. If you have an audition or play coming up, he's the one to get you ready for it! My friend nailed his audition, got the gig, all through his work with Nicholas. I've learned so much as an actor from Nicholas.
