I teach reading, "proper"classical technique and how to play with emotion!
I have taught private guitar, piano, bass and drum lessons since the late 70s in Salt Lake City, where I majored in jazz guitar performance, and since 1980 in Los Angeles. I make the lessons fun. Some of my students have received college scholarships and won cash prizes for music contests. All of them had fun while learning and improving on their instruments.
*** Lesson Details *** I am very enthusiastic and can teach students how to read. If they do not want to read music, they can learn to play by ear. I can also show them where to put their fingers. During piano lessons, I often accompa
ny students on guitar and suggest a scale for improvisation, so they can play the blues. During drum lessons, I often play bass so they can learn to groove.
*** Travel Equipment *** They should have their own instrument and a music stand.
*** Specialties *** I specialize in jazz improvisation on piano and guitar. I also teach recreational guitar and piano for adults, including classical and blues styles. I coach bass players and drummers in playing stylistically correct grooves for jazz, rock and latin music.

Mike is fun and smart. He customizes the lesson to my taste in music and what I want to learn. He's great! Recommend!

I've been taking lessons from Mike for about 6 months now and his enthusiasm and supportive approach are invaluable. This is my 3rd time trying lessons and the first time I've continued past the first couple sessions. And the reason is Mike. He's extremely talented, but more importantly, he's a phenomenal teacher. He explains things simply, concisely, and effectively. I leave every lesson enthused and excited to go home and practice. I can't recommend him highly enough. Mike's the man!

Mike S will teach you how to allow yourself to learn a new instrument!
Mike really is incredible. The guitar looked so complicated and confusing before I met Mike. He really teaches you how to allow yourself to learn a new instrument. Within a month I was improvising over simple changes with my own ideas! And within 2 or 3 months, the amount of chord structures I had at my disposal was mind blowing. The speed at which I became comfortable with the instrument was amazing. I really believe that Mike's simple teaching style really was a key part in my ability to play and grow on a new instrument. Other than that, he is one of the greatest people I have ever had the pleasure to meet and play with. He gives so much of his time to his community by teaching anyone from child to infinity and even bringing them together to create bands to showcase every persons different talents. He is a beautiful human being and I do actively suggest him to anyone that tells me they want to learn either piano, guitar, or bass.
Have your classical guitar (aka Spanish guitar) and your foot pedal ready to go. we're gonna have some fun. Books will be provided and weekly homework will be given to you.
Okay well let the game begin :)...I'm not going to talk in third person like " Miss m. was born in blah blah and then she performed in blah blah..." :) So here it goes...Hi! You probably already know my name but I want to let you know of some fun facts about me before starting to talk about all those resume stuff! !) every body calls me Maryam but there are 23 letters in my full name and YES that's crazy. @) I love red. #) I think mermaids are super-cool $) I wish I had a pet dolphin! %) I watched a lot of wrestling as a kid and the hardy boys are my favorites! if you're still reading =>
YAY. now let's talk about my experience. I started music, theatre and art when I was very very young. I moved to different cities AND countries so I had the chance to be taught by very different perspectives and teachers that had nothing in common but music. All that time beside being humble to my teacher I could still take notes of what they did that I loved and what they did that I hated as a student. Then when I was in high school I realized I loved helping people to learn and I started teaching and using those " words of wisdom" I left for myself. I know what it feels like to be a student believe me. I still am a student in college. I understand your pains and gains and happiness and sadness and everything you go through in your journey. I'm very flexible with different genres. In fact I started as a classical musician then changed to pop then rock then metal then blues then jazz and finally I realized : OK I admit it. I love all of them and I try my best to teach you what you want to learn. Oh and you might also be interested to know that I can also speak fluent Farsi. So what do you say? Lets open the door of Narnia together. It'll be AWESOME!
P.S lets be real I know you're gonna stalk me to make sure I'm the teacher for you so here you go >>
*** Lesson Details *** I want you to improve. I want you to put time and be great at what you do. I truly love all my students and I want your happiness. As of teaching goes, I'll make sure to meet all your needs but it's you who can make a difference. I don't believe in talent , I believe in hard work and practice. everybody is born with the same blank canvas it's what you draw on it over time that matters. If you let me know that you have other things than music or you're maybe busy to practice a lot, I'll give less things to practice after every 3 month ( what I call a semester) you can choose songs to record in my home studio. I don't have a fancy studio but I have enough equipment to record and edit demo songs. I'd love my students to participant in talent shows and I'm always looking to put you out there in the real world of music.
*** Studio Equipment *** Any thing a student and their parents might need.
*** Travel Equipment *** I can bring my guitar to accompany but the student needs to also provide their own instrument. I will also need the voice students to have a keyboard or a piano as a lot of voice technique exercises need the piano accompaniment.
*** Specialties *** I'm professionally an electric guitarist.. Started with classic guitar and then changed genre to rock and metal and then started exploring jazz but I consider myself a rock solo guitarist with some spices of jazz and i still play classical. I'm also a pop/rock singer with flavors of jazz and I've been singing classic music as well.

She is kind, patient, flexible, and most importantly she listens to what your desires are and adjusts her style to meet those needs. She is also very good at explaining the importance of traditional exercises and does an excellent job of presenting those in a way that is a very comfortable way to learn.

While studying at ARC I bumped into Maryam. Upon realizing that she was a music major the topic quickly escalated to focus of degree. At the time, composition was what Maryam was pursuing. After listening to some of her creations, I realized that I had never seen such talent at a junior college. Selecting Maryam from the rest of the pack will forever change yours and your child's lives. She is a fine musician and is very easy to talk to. All the while songwriting and composing is her specialty and she is the best that I know.

It took awhile to get my granddaughter to singing lessons but now that she has started them, she is having such a great experience. She hasn't let us listen to her voice at home but we are waiting for that day when she will. All I know is, she is learning a lot from her teacher and is anxious to go to her lessons every week. Her teacher is a very accomplished musician and has encouraged my granddaughter to be able to try and develop her love of music through her voice. I am so thrilled I found her teacher and we chose her by her schooling and credentials. I don't know where these voice lessons will lead my granddaughter, if anything we just want her to enjoy the journey and if it helps her with her self esteem, that will be a great accomplishment. I can't say enough great things about her teacher, she has been wonderful for my granddaughter. I read what her teachers background has been and what she is currently doing, it meant a lot to my granddaughter to know that about her. We are very impressed with her knowledge and how she is handling my granddaughters lessons. Thanks for the great teacher!
I attended the Berklee School of Music in Boston, and I have a BA in Music. I am a working pro musician, regularly playing all different kinds of gigs with different bands, as well as solo, and regular gigs on TV. I have taught music lessons, and guitar in particular, for 18 years. I play all styles, but my favorites are Rock, R&B, Country, Rockabilly, and Blues (I also enjoy playing jazz, classical, and other styles as well). My main instruments are guitar (electric and acoustic) and voice, but I play keyboards, bass, mandolin, and drums also.
*** Lesson Details *** I focus on a co
mprehensive approach, incorporating each student's natural abilities as well as musical interests - whether you want to learn how to play your favorite songs, learn all the skills to play with a band, or study music theory and advanced songwriting techniques, I can teach you! From playing as a hobby or to entertain friends and family to advanced college-level topics, we can cover whatever your specific goals are. Also, with student interest, I like to focus on music theory, and a deeper understanding of how songs/music work - in other words, rather than just teaching a student a song and being done with it, I like to focus on how and why the music works as it does, to enable students to put their own spin/style on it, play it in different keys, etc. I teach all skill levels, from brand-new beginners to advanced players.
Several of many possible topics of study include:
• Lead and rhythm styles and techniques -- both are essential to learn! • How to play solos and how to improvise • Styles and techniques of your favorite musicians/songwriters • Playing by ear and how to learn songs just by listening to them • Playing to accompany yourself or someone else singing • Developing parts and techniques to play with other musicians • Songwriting, and how to create riffs, hooks, and chord progressions • Reading chord charts • Music reading -- Optional, not at all essential to playing music, but a good skill to have
My teaching style is friendly and good-natured, I believe in positive encouragement and feedback, and don't believe in "guilt-tripping" or any other negativity toward students - playing music should be fun! I also love when students ask questions - I operate under the old saying that "there are no stupid questions!"
*** Studio Equipment *** Amplifier, music stand, computer with internet connection (for playback of songs from the internet or CDs)
*** Travel Equipment *** I provide blank manuscript/chord chart/tab paper. I expect the student to provide their own instrument (along with any related things such as amplifiers, guitar picks, strings, etc.) and to provide study books that we agree upon (if necessary). I am able to supply books if the student reimburses me at the time they receive them.
*** Specialties *** I tailor my teaching style to each student's aptitudes and interests. All music students learn differently, and it's my challenge as a music teacher to figure out what works best for each individual student to inspire them and to keep them excited and motivated about learning an instrument.

Mr. Mike T is very patient. He was very welcoming and made my son feel very comfortable at our first lesson. I appreciate his kindness and understanding in dealing with beginners. Can't wait for the next lesson! Thank you Mr. Mike 😉

Highly recommended: Amazing teacher!
Mike is a patient, supportive and incredibly talented teacher. From music theory to practical application, he's got all the answers... And he makes learning fun!
I took guitar lessons more than ten years ago and found it frustrating and I was terribly uninspired. Recently I took my old guitar out of mothballs and was determined to make some progress on the dang thing. A good friend recommended Mike and I've been taking lessons for nine months with him.
What's great about Mike is that he customizes my lessons. I'm not learning out of a book (which, I could if wanted) but I'm learning the songs that I love and learning the theory behind the chords, too. Then he keeps building on what we just learned. I go home from my hour lessons and play for another two hours because I'm so inspired.
I can't recommend Mike highly enough. He's a gem of a music instructor in the concrete jungle of Los Angeles.

Hello there this is Gio L.
I'm a professional guitarist, performer, composer, instructor, international clinician, webinarist, with 20 years or professional experience in music education & live performances. Also, I'm an Italian teacher see " Ciao bella" for more details and an Adobe Photoshop teacher, see "iPhoto' for more details.
I was Raised in the coastal city of Bari, Italy, I've picked up my first guitar at the age of 10 and have not stopped playing music ever since.
My training as a musician has taken me all over the world starting from Italy to a Mediterranean tour, to a
Cruise Liner in Brazil to Hollywood CA,. I came to Los Angeles to attend the Musician Institute (Hollywood, CA) where I've graduated with honors from the Guitar Institute of Technology, there I had the pleasure to work as a tutor during my scholarship program. I'm an active musician, music is my life. Often I have the pleasure to travel abroad where I give guitar clinics and perform my music, I like to think of myself as a citizen of the world. I've been teaching professionally in S. California ever since 1998, I reserve the option for in persons one-on-one lessons only for my best students, again, music matters to me. During these last 16 years I've secured many teaching positions like at the Los Angeles valley College extension program, at the Los Alamitos Conservatory of music, at Mars Music learning Center, at the YMCA etc. though, as I've already mentioned, the best one will continue on with me. I've much more to share with you regarding my professional life, my discography ect. but let's talk about lessons now.
What I care the most is to make sure that you'll receive the best private education that money can buy. As I've stated on my headline, If you're serious about music, if you're ready to learn the skills, expand your knowledge, achieve your goals, then, I'm your man. I've learned that we all have different approaches when it comes to studies. Learning how play an instrument is a fun but challenging process. I'm not gonna lie to you, you need to work on it, plain and simple ! I'll provide you with written curriculum or I'll indicate the right book to be purchased, I'll monitor your progress and I'll make sure to get the best out of you. My experience let me face any situation with the confidence that only the know-how can give you (16 years of professional experience will do that!). I have wrote curriculum aimed to the "Just as an hobby" type of student as well as comprehensive once for professional players that want to specialize on a specific style. In both cases it doesn't change what you have to do, practice ! To end with I've transcribed thousands of songs, It only takes me few minutes to put on paper your favorite song, wouldn't it be great to be able to read and play the music you love ? You'll be in good hands regardless of your goals in music
*** Lesson Details *** My teaching philosophy is to make sure that you enjoy your learning process. I'm a positive person, I believe in encouraging the student, every step you'll take toward your goal shall be acknowledge and awarded, I've been there, I know what it takes. Practice is a crucial aspect of this process, I'll motivate you, I want you be be successful in your learning journey, but, again, I need you to work on it, it won't happen otherwise.
Are you ready ?
*** Studio Equipment *** The student has to provide his/her own instrument. A small guitar amp is provided for electric guitarist, so there is NO need to bring your own
*** Specialties *** Music reading for guitar (Beg. to Pro.) Modern harmony (Beg. to Pro.) Improvisation (Beg. to Pro.)
Styles: Jazz, Blues, R&B-Funk, Classic Rock, Pop Rock, Latin-Spanish Styles, Brazilian, Finger-picking, Classical

Enjoyed the lesson very much. He kept it simple but gave crucial information in order to learn the language. I have my homework to do and look forward to our next lesson. Thanks.
*** Lesson Details *** I have a patient, confidence-building and enthusiasm-generating approach to teaching. I strive to provide a positive, inspiring and comfortable environment where students can learn in a way that is best suited to their individual personalities, playing level and pace. A
s we go along, we develop strategies for attainable goals with guidance for quality and streamlined practice-sessions for maximum results with minimum effort, which makes learning easier and faster. We also work from a list of the student's favorite songs in any style or genre, based on the student's interest, while exploring others in order to enhance skill and inspire creativity.
*** Studio Equipment *** Music lessons are currently held in student's homes in the areas described as well as locations where amplifiers are provided.
*** Travel Equipment *** Wherever needed, practice amplifiers can be brought to each lesson for the electric guitar, bass, vocals & electronic keyboard.
*** Specialties *** We can work with any style or genre, based on the student's interest, while exploring others in order to enhance skill and inspire creativity.

"I love that the 5-star rating description is "Best instructor ever" because I often tell people that my son's guitar teacher is the best music instructor
we have ever had. I have 5 kids, and they have played piano in the past. This year my oldest is taking guitar for the first time. The thing that I love most about KJ is that he doesn't just teach my son how to play the notes -- he teaches him how to play music. There is a big difference between those two, and KJ is helping my son to see the music beyond the notes. KJ does a great job teaching notes, theory, and technique, but he teaches so much more that that as well. I can't say enough good things about KJ."

"Been a student of Josh's for a few months now and feel very fortunate to have found him. His attention to detail, continuity between sessions, and obviou
s broad knowledge base are a few of the elements making this a very rewarding learning experience. I am learning to read music, understand music theory, and develop technique. I have very much looked forward to each lesson which Josh takes the time and effort to build upon with clear assignments and follow up. Josh is highly personable, professional and supportive. I highly recommend Josh."

"We couldn't be happier with Michael. His passion and expertise are what you'd want from a teacher (clarinet + guitar), but beyond this, he's a kind, patie

Considering lessons? Go with Michael."
