The Sing Your BEST Self studio mission is to foster empowered, confident, healthy and beautiful performers, through skills building, personalized technique and applied performance. While students will be challenged to meet progress goals, each session is structured to be lively and enjoyable.

About Melissa

Melissa has been singing all of her life. She began her vocal training at a very cute age, learning every song she heard, and passionately performing them for friends and family. She later went on to pursue a formal education in Classical Vocal Performance and Jazz technique from California State University, Los Angeles. While completing her Bachelors degree, Melissa was fortunate to have worked with many established artists, bands and producers of various styles, including jazz, blues, rock, pop, soul and funk. These collaborations have allowed her to hone her own voice and successfully pu
rsue professional work.

Melissa has enjoyed the opportunity of lead local elementary school music programs, and has most recently expanded her private vocal studio Sing Your BEST Self to include skills training in piano, music theory and ear training.

Melissa specializes in LIVE improvisational performance, and can be seen performing under a stage name around the Ventura County and Los Angeles areas. Additionally, She is an accomplished songwriter, and has lent her voice to many recording projects, art collaborations, as well as, T.V. and Film.

In my teaching approach, I seek to provide a complete experience, in which, standard vocal technique is taught with the whole singer in mind, with specific attention to the individual students needs and goals.

Singing should be enjoyable for the singer as well as the listener. Helping students to experience that joy is my intention. Music lessons are fun, energetic, and productive. You will become an empowered musician and learn to Sing Your BEST Self!

Christopher C.

Camarillo, CA

Music Theory and Ear-Training are specialties of mine. This is the best subject to learn if you're interested in making music without knowing songs/pieces, as well as understanding why music sounds and works like it does.

About Christopher

Hi! My name is Christopher, or Chris for short. I am a composer, arranger, pianist, vocalist, and private tutor. I have taught private lessons in classical and contemporary piano performance, vocal performance, guitar performance, music theory, and musicianship to local students for the past 5 years. I currently attend CSUN'€™s school of music where I am a year away from obtaining my Bachelor'€™s of Music in Composition. My other experience includes teaching Confirmation classes to teenagers at St. Jude'€™s church for 2 years, and teaching English to Japanese high school students through the R
otary Youth Exchange Program.

*** Lesson Details ***
My philosophy when it comes to doing anything with music is that it should be fun! Whether you're practicing a piece, playing with a band, writing something new, or even learning music theory, music is primarily about enjoying yourself and the others around you. The same is true of my lessons!

The best way to ensure that you enjoy yourself is to learn what you want to learn and play what you want to play. In addition to a standard curriculum, I want you to tell me what kind of music you're interested in and what kind of pieces you want to play! Do you love classic rock? Do you love pop? Blues? Jazz? Folk tunes? Opera? Or maybe you're a lover of the classical masters? Whatever the case may be, my number one goal is to make sure you're having fun while you develop your new talents.

I'm comfortable teaching students as young as 7 years of age, although I can teach even younger if they are especially well-behaved.

*** Specialties ***
Classical, Blues, Jazz, Improv, Original composition

My Favorite Piano Teacher!

Chris is an unbelievable piano teacher! He always makes sure we are working on something that I enjoy which keeps me motivated. He is very patient (which is great since I'm kind of a slow learner!) and is always willing to go over things as many times as I need.

Chris also has such a great passion for his music so a lot of the times my absolute favorite part of our lesson is when we are finished and I ask him to play me some of his own newly composed songs!

My brother told me he found this great guitar teacher, and I was skeptical because he has been playing guitar for a long time and has never really sounded good. Two weeks after he mentioned him, all of the sudden he didn't suck any more. He was actually kinda good. So I tried a lesson with him and Wow! Within my first lesson I was already able to play a song! I can't afford lessons since I'm in school right now, but my brother still takes lessons with him. Even though I no longer take lessons with him I still call Rob and ask him questions about guitar all of the time, and he always makes time for me. I don't know where my brother or I would be without him. Great Teacher. Great Friend.

Jarold D.

Oxnard, CA

Study of music theory includes basic scale formula, modes of the major scale, the different minor scale forms, music analysis, diminished scale application, plus numerous other facets.

About Jarold

I've been teaching privately for more than 20 years, along with extensive touring on the national and regional levels.

National tours have been with many R&B, Soul, and Funk artists, such as Malo, Bloodstone, GQ, Deniece Williams, Dazz Band, and many more. I've played on several albums, some of them being Bloodstone's Ultimate Collection, GQ's Tribute to Billy Steward and Marvin Gaye, as well as Troy Dixon's debut album.

Training has included private study with known standouts in the music industry, such as Carlos Gonzales and Jeff Berlin.

My students run the gamut - from beginner
s wanting to learn how to play some of their favorite songs, to high school students preparing for a university music degree, to pros who want to take their skills to another level.

Lessons are tailored to each individual's needs. There are certain elements that each student needs to know, which will be covered. There are also things that students want to learn, such as favorite songs, and those will be covered as well.

With over 20 years of real world experience and training, I believe I can bring a fresh approach to learning guitar and bass for the potential student.

*** Lesson Details ***
We start with what the student needs. For beginners, we cover the basics, such as learning to play some melodies and chords. We also go over how to read music, as well as tablature, a system noted for it's ease of use in guitar.

For the intermediate, we determine what the student knows about guitar and what they would like to learn, and proceed from there. Usually it's more in depth study of scales, modes, and techniques, along with more difficult songs on the agenda.

For the advanced, the next level of scales, modes, chord voicing, and applicable music theory is explored. Learning is a never-ending pursuit.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Amps and cabinets - RedPlate BlackDuo 50, Marshall JTM45, Barber Echelon 50, numerous speakers cabinets with a variety of Celestion speakers.

Guitars - Les Pauls, Strats, Telecasters.

Bass Guitar - Custom Michael Dolan 5-string, Ibanez 905 5-string, Fender P-Bass, Warwick Fretless 5-string bass.

Complete compliment of studio microphones, from vocal condenser mics to drum and guitar mics.

Jarold was a great teacher! I really enjoyed how accommodating Jordan was in the sense that he would let me son learn whatever songs he wanted and worked through all of them until the end. Jarold's positive attitude is a breath of fresh air at every lesson and I would highly recommend him to others.
