I can help beginners get started or coach advanced students who are preparing for auditions.
Thomas J. W. is an active music teacher, composer, adjudicator, and clinician in the greater Philadelphia area. He has over fifteen years experience as a concert band director, marching band director, jazz improvisation instructor, choral director, private instructor, and marching drill writer. His directing career has included small rural band programs, small metro programs, large high-achieving suburban programs, and non-profit youth bands. In addition to his band compositions, he also has over forty unpublished vocal arrangements to his credit, most written for use with collegiate men's a cappella groups. Thomas taught over 600 online and local private music lessons in 2016.
Thomas has a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from The Pennsylvania State University. He holds a teaching certificate in the states of Pennsylvania
and New Jersey and has taught at the secondary level in both states. In addition to both instrumental and choral ensembles at Penn State, Thomas was a student leader in the Penn State Blue Band and a member of the brass section of the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps in 1993 and 1994. He served as an Associate Director of the Warren Junior Military Band of Youngstown, Ohio from 1995 to 2005. He also served as a visual staff member for the renowned North Penn Marching Knights of Lansdale, PA for one season in 2004.
He is a current adjudicator with Drum Corps International and Cavalcade of Bands. He is a member of MENC, PMEA, NJMEA, ASCAP, CASA, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and the National Band Association. He appeared in the Marquis Who's Who Among American Educators in 2004 and 2005, an honor rarely bestowed upon teachers, as students who appear in the Who's Who Among American High School Students must nominate them. He currently is a music teacher at the Center for Performing and Fine Arts of the PA Leadership Charter School in West Chester, PA and resides in Downingtown, PA with his wife and two sons.
Thomas will happily work with students on the autism spectrum or students with ADD.
*** Lesson Details *** My lessons are tailored to the needs and interests of each student. If a student is involved in school music ensembles, we will work with their lesson books from school in addition to material outside of the books, including SmartMusic, Noteflight, and teacher-created materials. We will focus on building proper tone production and individual technique - something that often is difficult to learn in a large ensemble setting.
I am capable of starting a beginner student on any band instrument including percussion, any classical string instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass), and piano. I can begin a student on drum set and work with them through their first method book, but I would then recommend they find a specialized drum set teacher after a period of six to twelve months.
For advanced students, I work from selected conservatory etude books on developing advanced skills and can work with students on audition pieces for honors bands/orchestras or college auditions.
My lessons are a half-hour once a week, with the option of working for 45 minutes or 60 minutes.
Thomas is honestly an amazing musician and teacher. He was really patient with me. Despite having to deal with major timezone differences (as I live in Myanmar), he took the time to figure it out. Also, he helped me figure out the stuff it took me months to figure out. He also really knows what he's doing. I learned so much in that hour of practice. 10/10 would recommend him.

Fabulous! What a great teacher! And SO KNOWLEDGEABLE about all kinds of music! THANKS! looking forward to all my lessons!
I have been playing French horn professionally for the past 10 years. We will work on sound, technique, and musicality. All ages accepted.
After graduating from the University of Kentucky with a degree in music, I moved to New York where I lived for 11 years. I have been a professional multi-instrumentalist since then and a member of many bands including Beirut and Arcade Fire. I have also performed and/or recorded with many others including David Byrne, Passion Pit, Coldplay, and LCD Sound system. I have performed in dozens of countries, at some of the world's biggest festivals (Bonnaroo, Coachella, Glastonbury), and on many television shows (Colbert, Letterman, Fallon).
I have experience in playing and teaching many different styles and can teach you what YOU want to learn. Playing music can be a very rewarding experience, but should also be fun. I can promise you will have fun in our lessons and have fun with music in general.
*** Lesson Details *** We will focus firs
t and foremost on what you would like to learn on your instrument, whether it be specific songs, styles, or a more general approach to your instrument or music-making. I have taught students of all ages on many different instruments and can work with anyone at any skill level.
*** Studio Equipment *** Trumpet, flugelhorn, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, flute, clarinet, saxophone, drum kit, keyboards, piano, organ, guitar, bass, ukelele, accordion, mandolin, various synthesizers, various percussion, and recording rig.
*** Travel Equipment *** I can bring any portable instrument, and any sheet music required for our lesson.
*** Specialties *** For brass I am a strong proponent of the Carmine Caruso method. As for genres I am most well versed in jazz, rock, and classical.
Learn about rhythm, melody, harmony, and dynamics, and how they apply to the french horn. Explore the range of your instrument through various scales. Build solid skills through understanding the mechanics of how your body and instrument work together.
*Disclaimer* I'm currently not taking beginner students on voice/singing, guitar, bass, drums, piano, and ukulele. I highly recommend my studio partners Melissa though. Please check out her profile:
I've been playing with classical ensembles and rock bands since 2001. Even though I started on classical trombone and rock guitar, I have come to expand my repertoire to a variety of instruments and genres. During my time in college I performed with the University choir, orchestra, and band. I also have organized, wrote/arranged for, and performed with a variety of bands in my home state of New Mexico, as well as Japan, and the San Francisco Bay Area.
Since 2006 I have been an active teacher. This profession has taken me everywhere from working with classical guitar cla
sses in New Mexico high schools to Elementary students in Japan to a variety of private students of various musical instruments and genres everywhere I've been. Since relocating to the Bay Area in 2010, I've had the pleasure of working with lots of great students from kids to adults with a wide range of ambitions. Since 2012 I've been running my own full time studio.
Philosophy of Learning
Lessons are generally designed to work towards giving students the tools to accomplish their goals and become increasingly independent over time. While all students will study similar fundamentals regarding technique, theory, and performance, every lesson is as different as every person. What kind of music do you want to make? I'll tell you what you need to do to get there, and help you take the steps to achieve your aspirations. It's really important to know though that everyone makes their own experience. The process of learning music involves you learning as much about your own mind and body as it does any external concepts, so please keep in mind only you can move yourself forward.
I also love to help students put together a song, record, and produce it for them so that they can have a recording to share with their friends and family.
I also hold events for my students. (Check out our pictures and videos below!) Younger students have opportunities to perform for friends and family at my studio every few months. Adult students also occasionally have events where they get a chance to get together and play music as well.
Aside from in-studio lessons, students also have the option to sign up for online lessons via Skype. (*Online lessons offered during different times than in-studio lessons.)
*Unfortunately due to scheduling issues, I'm not currently accepting students for bi-weekly lessons. I can do regular weekly lessons, or occasional drop-in lessons, but bi-weekly appointments make it really hard for me to give the best scheduled times to my existing weekly students. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.
My studio is equipped with:
*A P.A. System
*Vocal and instrument microphones
*Guitars, Basses, Ukulele, Banjos, etc
*Two guitar amps and a bass amp
*Various percussion including a fully equipped acoustic drum set
*A Roland V-Drums electronic drum set
*An electric piano console and Yamaha organ
*A MicroKorg Synthesizer
*A Tuba, Trombone, Cornet, Saxophone, and Flute
*An extensive physical and virtual music library
*A recording system that students are not only welcome to use but encouraged to
*HD Webcam and condenser microphone for high fidelity online lessons via Skype
Jesse has given directions on how to successfully become a better musician. His approach and explanation on musical theories was much more understandable than what I was previously reading. Overall, I found the lessons to be very usefull.

Super kind, patient and teaches a lot in each session!

Jesse is very friendly and a fun teacher to be around.
I have been performing on the horn for 15 years now. In 2017 I graduated from UCLA with my Masters degree in French horn performance. In 2010, I graduated from Chapman University with my music education and music performance degree on French horn. I enjoy helping other French hornist master this instrument and hope they find the love and fun in playing this beast of an instrument!
Hi! My name is Beckie and I have played music for all of my life. I play and teach many different instruments such as the French horn, trumpet, piano, saxophone, mandolin, guitar, and voice.
I have my Masters in Music on French horn as well as two bachelor degrees in music performance on French horn and music education.
My first job was as at a Montessori Academy elementary school, where I was the brass coach for 3 years. This is where I fell in love with teaching. I have been teaching privately for 16 years now and love the one-on-one attention that I can give the students.
I have worked with many great organizations like the Los Angeles Philharmonic and various music studios/orchestras around Los Angeles.
I currently am a freelance musician, Elementary school music teacher, brass coach for two local high schools and a p
rivate music teacher! I perform with orchestras and groups all around the Los Angeles area. I have performed in such wonderful venues as the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Sydney Opera house, in which I was able to premier a piece!
I look forward to working with you or your child in helping to start or continue a musical instrument!
*** Lesson Details *** When I teach lessons, I like to check in with the student to see how their day was and how practicing throughout the week went. I am very patient and will teach at the student's pace. I expect the student to practice during the week, even if for just 10 minutes a day. I will always work with a student as long as it takes to have them understand what is difficult for them musically.
For music, I like to use books. When we choose a book to play out of, I like to choose a book together so that the parent and the child are happy about the selection. Books vary based on what the needs are for each student. Books are to be purchased by the parent.
I usually play my instruments with the students, but being a freelance musician, I may need to save my chops for an upcoming gig. Not always, but happens from time to time :)
I also have a 24-hour cancellation/lesson change policy. If you are late for your lesson, I will try to accommodate the time but may have students or rehearsals afterward so it will not always be a guarantee. If you are going to be late, please text me BEFORE the scheduled lesson and make sure I confirm that I received your message. Lessons are to be every week as I DO NOT teach bi-weekly lessons.
*** Studio Equipment *** Lesson space is in my home w/ seating for parents and music stand for students. I also have a cat and a dog, so if you are allergic, please let me know! The dog and the cat are put away for the lessons as to not distract either one of us! They are pretty cute, though!
*** Travel Equipment *** I expect the student to provide music books and their own instruments and music stand.
*** Specialties *** I specialize in classical genres of playing but I am able to teach all different styles of music.
Outstanding instructor! Beckie is very positive and encouraging and my son has learned so much in just a few weeks. My son looks forward to his session each week. She is also an amazing musician herself and plays her instrument side by side with my son which allows him to hear and learn the individual notes.
excellent instruction on a difficult horn many years of practical skill playing as well as teaching horn.
Teaching is a passion. All my students love what they learn and their progress is my number one concern. I have been teaching since the age of 17. I welcome any student wanting learn the joys of playing brass instruments. I have taught more than 500 students on a private level since I began teaching. I began studying at the age of 9 with a top trumpet professional, David Frick. Man what an experience. If you want to make excelllent progress look no further.
I have fifteen years' experience teaching all brass instruments. I will make sure you are playing music you enjoy while developing strong fundamentals with your embouchure and tone. Whether just getting started or preparing for that big audition, I can help you meet your goals!
I am a private music instructor with over 20 years’ performing and teaching experience. There is so much unique joy in playing a brass instrument, and it is my goal to help my students feel that joy! I tailor each lesson to each student's individual abilities and learning methods. For students in school bands, I try to provide lessons that complement what they learn in band class, focusing on areas of performance that may not receive attention in a group setting. For all my students, regardless of level or instrument, I try to find music for them to play that they are interested in learning while still covering everything they need to get a solid foundation on their instrument. I encourage and assist my students in finding opportunities to perform in solo performances and with other groups. I also pride myself in creating an environment w
here the students are comfortable asking questions to help improve their playing.
Over my teaching career, I have worked with over 200 individual students. Many of my students are not only successful in their bands but in regional honor bands and Solo and Ensemble competitions as well. While I now only teach part time, I have years of full-time teaching experience as well. When I was full-time, I worked directly with several Nashville-area schools, including the nationally-acclaimed Oliver Middle School band. When country musician Adam Sanders sought school musicians to accompany him at CMA Fest in 2018, 75% of the brass section was enrolled in my private lesson studio! Last year, competing against hundreds of students from all over the region, my students took second-chair trumpet and trombone at MTSBOA Mid-State.

All levels and ages welcome! Whether you are playing your first notes or you are preparing for a career, I would love to help you with your horn playing. I definitely emphasize technique and believe that strong fundamentals in breath control, articulation, and dynamic range are so incredibly helpful for the production of the gorgeous sound we all know and love in the Horn. My lessons differ greatly from student to student and I will work with you on any aspect of horn playing you would like to learn and improve.
Hello! My name is Bethany. I have been studying horn for almost 20 years and have been teaching for almost 10. I am currently located in Simi Valley, CA, a little valley located next to THE Valley, quite close to most of Los Angeles. I teach online lessons and local lessons in Ventura and Los Angeles County.
About Me | Teaching Method As a teacher, I find the most joy in seeing technical improvement translate into artistic freedom and musicality. I also just love sharing my nerdy love for the horn with young musicians!
I tailor lessons and take time to understand each student's pace of learning and playing style. I typically write out customized warm ups for each of my students that highlight aspects of horn playing that promote flexibility and teach music theory. I use etudes in not only a way that promotes technique, but also i
n a way that inspires creativity, giving a student freedom to experiment with musicality and composition. Students are welcome to bring me any ensemble, solo, or audition music they wish to work on.
Lesson Details | Private Horn Lessons Local Lessons: I will drive to you! The only required equipment is 2 chairs and 1 stand. A piano/keyboard is preferred for music theory and ear training aspects of horn playing but not necessary.
Online Lessons: I use Skype mostly; I can of course use any method of video chat that you prefer.
My daughter is enjoying her lessons! Bethany has been patient and encouraging with my daughter being brand new to the instrument.

Great first lesson!

Bethany is a wonderful instructor! She is consistently caring and insightful, and has appropriately high expectations--which push her students to improve. She was able to help me wisely choose music that would be both challenging and rewarding. I highly recommend her, and I had a great experience taking lessons from her.
I have been playing the Horn for the past 15 years, so I bring years of dedicated experience to my students. Through my past instructors as well as other professional development opportunities, I have learned many techniques and ideas that I pass on to my students. I create my lessons based on each student's personal needs and goals so they can get the most out of every lesson.
I am a very dedicated educator with experience teaching private lessons since 2013. I graduated from Rutgers University with a duel degree in Music Education and French Horn Performance, and I am currently completing my Master of Music degree in French Horn Performance at New York University where I study with the acting Associate Principal Horn of the New York Philharmonic, Leelanee Sterrett.
I am currently the brass instructor at the lesson studio Music Forever in Edison, New Jersey. I also have experience working in various public schools including Readington Middle School, Holland Brook Elementary School, PS3 Charrette School, and Perth Amboy High School. In addition, I have coached chamber music through the Rutgers Extension Division.
As a performer, I have played in various orchestras, bands, and other various chamber groups.
As a co-founder of Prime Winds, a woodwind quintet, and Quartado, a horn quartet, I understand the organizational skills it takes to network and manage an ensemble. I was also the winner of the NYU Concerto Competition, and I will be playing Anthony DiLorenzo's concerto "Phoenix" this coming October with the New York University Orchestra.
I strongly believe that student centered learning is essential for successful student growth. I adapt my lessons to specific student learning needs based on my assessment of their abilities and interests. It is important to me that my students learn in a way that is best for them, and that they are going over material that will help them reach their goals. In addition to teaching my students how to play with great technique and a beautiful sound, I teach them what it means to be a musician in the 21st century. It is important to me that my students can understand how to use what they are learning about in real life settings outside of the practice room. I push my students to be excellent musicians as well as life time learners.
Kevin is a very passionate teacher who is dedicated to music with excellent teaching skills. He is being teaching my daughter for the past 1 year and I have seen my daughter progressed good at playing French Horn.

Kevin is a really great French Horn teacher & musician! He also has helped me a lot with piano. I’ve been studying with Kevin for 3 years& I got first chair at my school because of him.

Kevin is an excellent teacher! My daughter Erica struggled in her band class, and she considered quitting. Once she started lessons however, she really progressed and now loves playing!
"We only had one lesson with Amy, but I was impressed and I give her a 5. She was very patient with Josh, even when Josh wasn't very focused. I was impress
ed with how she conducted her lessons, even though her children were home. They were very respectful of our lesson time and never had an interruption. That says a lot about Amy's dedication to focus on her students."
"My 13 year old daughter wanted lessons to improve on her french horn playing . We found Pasquale through his positive reviews and thought we would give
him a try. I was a little apprehensive that lessons could be effective through the Internet verses in person. I was wrong. Pasquale called us as soon as we signed up for lessons to introduce himself, exchange Skype information as well as iron out the best times for lessons. I played French horn from 5th grade through most of high school and also took some private lessons. I was extremely impressed with Pasquale. He took the time to really explain to my daughter the mechanics of playing a brass instrument better than I ever heard it when I was younger. He had my daughter take notes and gave her assignments for the next week. I am looking forward to watching my daughter's playing grow under his guidance."
