Brian G.

Evergreen Park, IL

I am able to teach piano on all levels and am strongest on this instrument. Currently I mainly work with beginners on the instrument but can teach a variety of levels.

About Brian

Hello, my name is Brian and I am currently studying my Bachelor's in Music Education at VanderCook College of Music. It is the only college in the world that specializes in specifically Music Education, and has been since 1909. The school teaches us a basic understanding of 17 instruments and voice, while also teaching theory, aural skills, music history, professional ed courses, and includes a large number of various ensembles. Because of this, I'm able to teach some basic concepts on all of the band/orchestra instruments. Personally, I started taking piano lessons in 2000 and started drum se
t lessons in 2002. I've always had a dual musician life after that point, and was apart of the band and jazz band programs from 5th grade until now (sophomore in college). While attending Marist High School, I taught myself guitar, bass guitar, banjo, harmonica, and tin whistle. I expanded my concepts of music and genres, and find myself very knowledgeable of classical, jazz, rock, blues, and pop on piano, and fluent in jazz, blues, rock, Latin, and pop styles on drum set. I am willing to teach any student their musical needs as they prosper through their lives as an artist. I hope to one day teach in a band setting with my degree, offer private lessons, and compose music on the side.

*** Lesson Details ***
For lessons, I'm ready to work on making some music while always having fun. As the lessons progress, I start to expect more from the student regarding retaining knowledge and muscle memory throughout learning their technique and repertoire. This will come with consistent practice. After 3 or 6 months, the beginning students will find themselves recognizing note names, rhythms, meter, melodies and harmonies, and mechanics of their instrument. My goal is to keep the student interested in the music while learning about themselves.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living room w/ piano

Basement w/ drum set, guitars, bass, amps, harmonicas

both have seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
I would expect my students to provide themselves with their own instrument but I would provide my own in addition to theirs while teaching, unless there is the sharing of a piano. I can also provide various sheet music.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical, jazz, rock, and blues for piano. I specialize in rudimentary drumming, rock, jazz, and latin for drums/percussion. I believe in making sure the student learns as much as possible about his or her instrument, can improve each day, and ultimately can have fun while playing.

This teacher has many great qualities in the field of music education.

I am learning a great deal from this teacher about the piano and life qualities in general. I have taken the tools I've learned from each lesson to apply in my own practice to develop myself as a musician. I would recommend Brian Goodman to anyone interested in learning about music.

Kristin S.

Chicago, IL

In piano, we will begin with simple music designed to build strength and dexterity in your hands. We will focus on learning note reading from the beginning, so I must strongly recommend that young children are able to track words, if not already reading. We will learn a variety of repertoire, including classical, pop, holiday, folk, and much more!

About Kristin

How wonderful it is that you have decided to take lessons! My name is Kristin, and I cannot wait to begin this journey into music with you. I have been teaching private lessons for nearly a decade, and been teaching music and choir in the classroom since 2011. Music has been my passion for my entire life. I had decided by the time I was 13 that I had to pass on this love of music, and ultimately achieved my degree in Music Education. I graduated Magna Cum Laude in the top ten of my class from VanderCook College of Music.

Cathy S.

Burbank, IL

I teach students of all kind with all personalities! I teach how they learn. Whether it is by drawing a picture, or telling a story metaphorically, I make sure they learn what I am trying to teach. I introduce my students to music theory, performance, and technique from the beginning. It is important that they understand the music they are playing and why performing it is important. I make sure they know this; that if they know how it works, they can play anything they desire in the future!

About Cathy

Hello! My name is Cathy, or as most people call me by my nickname, Kasia. I am a student at Depaul University and am currently studying Music Composition along with piano and harp. I have been teaching piano for over 5 years now. I enjoy teaching kids the art of music because it is what makes up everything we have in this world. I teach piano technique along with the art of piano performance and music theory for my students to understand what music is and what it is made up of. I make sure they understand what they are playing in order to understand the art itself. I am a very motivated and in
spired person and the great connection that I make with my students is that I inspire them and they inspire me. I open their minds towards creativity and discipline. I have been playing the piano for over 13 years now, I am also a classical harpist and I have my own musical duet called Magical Keys.
I teach the way my students are most comfortable with and I teach what fits their personality.

Cathy was more than exceptional teaching piano to my son. She communicates well with times to teach and has a lot of knowledge to pass on to her students. My son could play nearly an entire piece after a few lessons. We could not ask for a better teacher!
