About Mary

Find your true voice. Lessons are catered to your individual needs and will help you to build a strong foundation in vocal technique and creative expression. We will practice breathing fundamentals, posture, tone production, diction, and delivery, which will enable you to increase your range, stamina, and overall vocal facility. I like to keep things simple: Singing better simply means to be able to do more of the things you want to do with your voice and to do them reliably. True, it usually includes things like singing with more range, better tone, stamina, passion, volume and power as well as singing in tune and without pain. But most importantly, that you can use your singing voice freely and express yourself musically in the ways you intend. Since your body is your instrument,

I began taking lessons with Mary after I heard her sing. Besides having a terrific voice I really love how effortless she makes singing look. I've been taking lessons with her for about a month and she's been helping me connect the dots. I appreciate her method. She works with me to build my voice and doesn't push a style or direction. Her descriptions give me directions on what to think and how to feel when I sing. I look forward to the coming months!

I started training with Mary about a year ago to get my voice back in shape. After my first lesson with her, I felt so happy and inspired. Her positive and passionate energy is so powerful. I learned so much after only one lesson, and as we continue, my voice keeps getting stronger and my range is expanding. Recently, she coached me through a few pieces I had to prepare for an audition. She helped me stay disciplined and positive. With her help, I totally nailed it. I sincerely appreciate her enthusiasm and vibrant spirit along with her support and encouragement. Mary's an all around unique, talented and genuine person that I'm lucky to have stumbled upon.

I came to Mary as a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter who wanted help with singing/vocals. A few things were apparent from the beginning: she is a creative, patient, yet demanding teacher with a razor-sharp ear and an endless bag of similes, metaphors, and visual and mental techniques to get across the point she's trying to explain (which is all aimed at coaxing the best out of you in each lesson). I've had many music teachers over the years, and it is rare to find one who combines vast knowledge of music theory and the fundamentals/techniques of their particular instrument with the ability to translate and teach all of this effectively. Mary is exactly this type of teacher. I also appreciate that her passion and enthusiasm for music and creativity practically oozes out of her pores, and in the year+ that we've been working together she's challenged me to not only improve my vocals but develop my songwriting skills using Logic. I recommend Mary without qualification to anyone from the casual singer/strummer to the advanced musician or studio geek who wants to up their game to the next level.

As an Opera Singer; this is my strongest asset - teaching others to do what I do. My experience will help you in your journey through classical music.

About Andrew

After graduating from Ithaca College with degrees in Vocal Performance and Music Education I spent three years teaching music in public schools. During that time I taught Kindergarten - 4th grade, as a long term substitute, and then 6th - 8th Grade Chorus to 430 students. During my time teaching my program grew at a rate of 30% annually compared to the band and orchestra who struggled to gain 5%. I attribute this success to my style of teaching which is accessible to everyone. No matter the age, I will find out about what you are interested in besides music and use that as a hook to help you understand what's going on in our lessons. Although I am tough, because I want you to get the most out of your time, I am positive and love to laugh. Besides teaching in the public ...

Amazing

Andrew is an extraordinary teacher. In the first couple of weeks, he immediately identified my strengths and weaknesses and crafted individualized lessons to strengthen my piano skills. I can see an enormous difference already; he's taught me skills I could never have learned on my own. He's personable, has a good sense of humor, and holds me accountable for weekly lessons without being a taskmaster. I recommend him highly and I'm incredibly grateful for his patience, high energy, and commitment to his students.

Andrew is patient friendly and knows his technique. I was able to feel and hear growth within a few lessons.
Neda L. New York, NY

About Neda

The goal I have for my students is I want my students to really understand why they are doing a particular thing with music, where it being why do we play scales, why is it this key signature, vocal technique, warm ups, etc. I feel what my student is doing internally, and can quickly help them with fixing or adjusting their technique. I want the best for them. Always! *** Lesson Details *** Bring your music books, a pencil, and a something to record your lessons with. I am a very fun person, really energetic, and nice. If my students do what I ask them too, they will see that side of me. If they don't, I tend to be a little strict and firm, mostly because when I was learning piano as a kid, I used every excuse in the book...I was an excellent pianist but bad student, and so now I

I got to experience the joy of working with Neda last fall when I did a production of The Wizard of Oz in San Jose. As the vocal director, Neda took on the responsibility of teaching kids ages 8 to 14 the songs from the timeless classic. Not only did she succeed, but she did so wonderfully! The show turned out really really well! Behind the scenes though, Neda was able to teach the songs to everyone in a fun and unique way. She was able to relate to each and everyone of us, and she made the rehearsals so enjoyable. She was very patient, very kind, and very funny! She works very well with kids, and is a joy to be around.

I had the pleasure of working with Neda in a youth production of The Wizard of Oz in San Jose. As the vocal directer, she carried the big responsibility of bringing the lovely music in this classic to life, which she certainly succeeded at doing. At every rehearsal, she was kind and patient, and she knew exactly how to uniquely communicate ways to improve the song in a way that everyone from 8-year-old to high-schoolers could understand. Her voice is beautiful and extremely versatile. Neda is a passionate, fun, understanding person with so much to offer to a young singer or actor/actress. :)

A blessing for my daughter

I put off looking for voice teachers fro my daughter until her voice matured a bit. About the time I felt she was ready, we met Neda, who was the vocal director for my daughter's show. Ashley immediately took to Neda, and began weekly vocal lessons.
Not only are her fees fairly priced, we wholly trust her. She is professional, kind, patient and honest. She has helped pick out appropriate songs for my daughter to use for auditions and to help train her voice for further growth.
I have seen such an improvement in my daughter's vocal abilities. Neda has been a blessing for us and I would highly recommend her for all ages.

About Alex

Having grown up with a father who ran a guitar shop and a professional singer for a mother, music was just another language to communicate with in our house. Learning to speak through music (and vice versa) taught me how to focus and develop new skills, which helped me in school with anything new that I have ever had to learn. In 5th grade I started playing bass guitar at home, trombone in the school music program, and private lessons for piano. This got me exposed to a uniquely wide range of music very early on. When I was a teenager, I was honored to be the youngest person to study at Victor Wooten's first bass/nature camp in 2000, a star-studded week long master class with some of the world's most decorated musicians in Montgomery Bell State Park outside of Nashville. I played

I am confident in my ability to teach beginners through advanced singers as I have actively taught private voice lessons for over 30 years.

About Laurie

I bring 30 years performing and coaching experience to my students.  I have performed as featured soloist at events ranging from Miss Texas Pageant and cruise ships to guest artist with several symphony orchestras. I have enjoyed singing with the Fort worth and Dallas operas as well as traveling with national Broadway touring shows.. I obtained my Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of North Texas and have studied with former Metropolitan Opera stars and Maestro for the Dallas Opera. Each student is different, therefore I adjust my teaching technique accordingly. I want all of my students to be successful, so we begin where this can happen and then work up from there. I am classically trained and believe that a classical basis should be the foundation for all styles of

I had taken voice lessons from Laurie for seven years before I moved away for college. During that time, my vocal ability grew in ways I could not have imagined.

Laurie has an amazing ability in helping you reach your greatest potential. She is intuitive, perceptive, and meticulous in discovering your weaknesses and helping you overcome them. Like an athletic trainer, she has an intricate knowledge of the muscles required for your performance, and she is excellent in helping you strengthen them.

Being a performer herself, Laurie is constantly evolving and honing her craft, which in turn is very beneficial for her students. Throughout my time with Laurie, she was always excited to share a new technique if she found it successful.

However, Laurie is not only an amazing teacher, she is also a wonderful person to be around. I always loved coming to her lessons, not only because I learned so much, but also because she became a great friend.

Hi I am Evana Flores. I am Soprano 2, soon to be 18, and a senior at Coppell Highschool where I am in the A Cappella Choir and a few show choirs. Laurie and I have known each other for many years now. I started taking group class lessons with her when I was in the fourth grade for musical theatre, and then soon after began taking solo lessons for fun. She was super friendly and she is great with children and taught me good songs for auditions, how to breathe with my diaphragm, and most importantly confidence. I was in a Musical Theatre company and she was one of the directors where she was able to adapt and teach a bunch of voices from kids of varying ages. Going into middle school I signed up for school choir in 7th grade and they allowed us to take Voice at school, so I only saw Laurie sporadically. It wasn't until the summer before my junior year of high school that I sought out Laurie’s help once again. I was kind of in the rut vocally and with my confidence level because I was good, but I wasn’t improving… specifically with the All State Competition. I was doing well for my age, but I wasn’t advancing as far as I had wanted to and it was frustrating. Transitioning from a 30-minute weekly school lesson to Mrs. Lauries 1 hour+ lessons was kind of overwhelming at first because these lessons were so concentrated on technique. But by the end of that summer I had already learned how to project my sound and raise my soft pallet.
If that is not convincing enough, let me tell you how I did in my standings in the All State Process before and after her lessons. My freshman year I made the district choir (17th chair) and did not advance to the Region choir at the next round because I got 31st chair; I had to make top ten. The next year as a sophomore I made 11th chair at district and made 15th chair at the next round of Regionals so I was cut once again. That summer I went to Mrs. Laurie, and after having lessons for only a few months with her I was a million times better and I think my results from my junior year are quite telling. I made 6th chair at District, 3rd chair of the Region Choir, 6th chair at Pre-Are, and was 2nd Alternate to the All State Choir. I didn’t actually get to sing with the choir, or neither can I technically call myself an “All Stater” but now I know that I have the potential to be one if I work even harder this year, and Laurie saw that potential in me from the beginning, My junior year Laurie helped me make audition tapes for SWACDA and I made their Honor Choir. I also received a 1st Division rating on my solo at State Solo & Ensemble, where I had gotten a 2nd division rating the year before. But Laurie’s knowledge surpasses classical singing and she also helped me tremendously with show choir auditions and what not. In my show choir, Vivace, I auditioned for solos and a filler singing “Heart of Life” and was given the featured solo in Jai Ho and my John Mayer filler was put in the show.
But beyond my accomplishments, Mrs. Laurie has been a very special influence in my life. She cares for her students as their own mother would and her encouraging personality never made lessons intimidating. In my lessons I have learned how to raise my soft pallet, proper breath control, how to lift my check bones, relax my tongue, use my lips, stand, drop my jaw, and be free in my singing (which was very hard to do with choral training). But most pertinent to my voice, she found my voice as a soloist and not as a choir member. She uncovered so much of my range as a soprano and helped me feel at ease singing there. Mrs. Laurie is a wonderful person and teacher whose expertise is rare to come about these days. She always has the best in mind for her students and her passion for teaching and voice and performing are so evident. To her potential students, take from her! I highly recommend it.

Thanks for everything Mrs. Laurie. Love, Evana

To Whom it May Concern:
It is with the utmost pleasure that I recommend Laurie as a private vocal instructor. Having known Mrs. Laurie G. since 2006, at which point I was only 12 years old, I can honestly say that she is one of the few people who had such an impact on my life as to shape it musically and otherwise. When we first met, she recognized a vocal talent that I had not yet realized and she encouraged me to pursue it. Thus, I joined the middle school choir (which was, at that point, under her instruction) and became one of her private students.
In the nearly 4 years that I took voice lessons from Mrs. Laurie G., I received a solid classical training experience that prepared me for a multitude of accomplishments. While under her instruction, I earned the Lewisville Independent School District Outstanding Soloist Award three years in a row, performed soloist roles in the musicals Once Upon a Mattress, Annie, and Aladdin, sang at a few private gigs, and gained admission to the vocal department at the esteemed Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in downtown Dallas. After starting high school there, I went on to become a member of the 2011 All-State Choir, represent Booker T. Washington HSPVA at two SWACDA conventions, and perform in and direct Abbondanza, the school’s annual musical production. Additionally, I became a member of the Booker T. Washington HSPVA Opera Workshop, performing as one of the Three Ladies in a production of Die Zauberflte and in the role of Adele in Die Fledermaus, as well as gaining behind-the-scenes access to numerous events at the Dallas Opera. Lastly, I became a member of the Booker T. Washington Jazz Singers, a contemporary jazz group, which won the 2013 Monterey Jazz Competition and became one of two high school groups in the nation to be featured at the 2013 Monterey Jazz Festival.
Laurie gave me the foundation I needed to succeed in classical and contemporary vocal environments and helped me build the personal confidence I needed to put myself out there and strive for success. She always goes above and beyond the call of duty, endeavoring to assist her students in their pursuits in any way that she can. She is an individual that I will always hold near and dear and I know that, if given the chance, she will be the same for you.
Sincerely yours,

Alexa Weiand
