I had an awesome first lesson with Matt he definitely exceeded my expectations. I paid for a 30min session and received an entire 1 1/2 hour info session full of valuable information. Matt is extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the subject and I feel like I am learning from someone that not only can talk the talk, but also walk the walk. If our first session is any indication of how the rest of our sessions will go, then I will be signing up for more lessons.
He is informative thorough prompt and respectable. I could not have asked for a better instruct for my first time on take lessons. Thanks Matt and I look forward to our future lessons.

Matthew is a fantastic instructor and he has a lot of patients. I am a new drummer and he thought me and my two boys on how to drum and now after about a year we can actually enjoy drumming and we are having a blast. My older has special needs and I am so impressed that he will actually come and play the drums on his own now which would have never happened without Matthews teaching. My younger boy is doing so well too. We will continue to take lesson even with our busy schedules since we really enjoy our lessons with Matthew. Thank you Matthew.

Andrew L.

Snoqualmie, WA

I went to Northwest University and earned a degree that focused on recording in a studio setting. I'm very comfortable with the terminology and lessons taught in the recording field.

About Andrew

I am a flexible, kind teacher who bases lessons on what the student wants to learn. Learning needs to be fun and I do my best to make it that way. I won't only teach but I will also give the reason behind why I'm teaching it. Most of all, I care about people and how my students are doing. I am a recent graduate from Northwest University in Kirkland, Washington. I earned my degree in Contemporary Music Industry and studied music theory, composition, and recording techniques for 4 years while at the school. I have played guitar for over 10 years and have taught guitar for the last 5 years.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a pretty laid back person and am negotiable on what curriculum and books to use.

A typical lesson for me goes like this:
Warm-up song (something they are familiar with and will help them build confidence)
Work through 1-2 pages of a guitar book
Practice/Learn a song that they're interested in
Practice Scales/notes/chords (outside of the book)
End with a song they like and are working on

I've used several different books in prior teaching experience and adapt to them all. After 3-6 months I would like a student to have a good understanding of sight-reading music, techniques in their specific field and learning basic chords. I'm patient, which helps with younger students, and try to center lessons around what I think each individual student would enjoy.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can bring my instrument and books. I prefer that the student have their own instrument and books but if they don't, we can make it work.

*** Specialties ***
I think that learning to read music is important and that is generally what I teach first, no matter what I'm teaching. I have taught and tutored in guitar and music theory. I have studied in music recording and songwriting and am interested in teaching those as well.

Andrew is a great teacher!

I'd been wanting to take guitar lessons for a couple of years and when I finally got around to it, I found Andrew. He was great! He went at a pace that I could keep up with and I learned a lot. He adjusted his lessons to the music and techniques I wanted to learn and it was a great overall experience. I'd highly recommend him!

Cyndi E.

Issaquah, WA

I have been a vocal studio producer for over 30 years. My primary area of expertise lies in my ability to help the artist lay his voice on the recording with professionalism and skill.

About Cyndi

Cyndi has been very successful as a singer/songwriter, artist developer, producer and teacher. Originally hailing from Dayton, Ohio, she has resided in Los Angeles for many years. She has performed all over the United States and the world as an artist singing on cruise lines such as The Royal Carribean, Carnival, NCL etc., and has shared the stage with The Jackson's, Barbara Striesand, Stevie Wonder, CeCe Winans and many others. Cyndi is currently music director and artist for the tribute act, "The Voices of the Supremes, which performs in various venues throughout the United States and abr
oad. She is also President/CEO of her own Entertainment company, Neuhaus Entertainment Group, and has produced CD projects for numerous up and coming artists.

As a teacher, Cyndi has taught "Vocal Technique" to students of all ages ranging from 6-70 for the past 25 years. She was Youth and Young Adult Music Director for Crenshaw Christian Center, one of the largest churches in America, as well as A&R for their record label. As a songwriter/producer/artist developer on staff for 12 years, she produced numerous CD projects. Her song, "The Power of Faith," that she wrote for the Ever Increasing Faith broadcast can be heard all over the world daily on both television and radio. Because of her meticulous instruction, many of her students have gone on to obtain professional careers in the entertainment industry singing backup vocals for named acts such as Ameridan Idol, Fantasia, Gospel recording great, Kim Burrell, Nikki Minaj. Adam Lambert, starring in the lead role of Young Simba in the Lion King Production at the Pantages Theatre, recording the title song for the movie "Another Cinderella Story II, singing for Middleweight Champion of the World, Sugar Shane Mosley at Madison Square Gardens, another of her students went on to become part of the Grammy award winning girl group "Isis" and yet another is one of the main cast members on the hit TV show "Glee".

As a teacher, I get immense satisfaction from seeing my students excel and fly using the techniques and tools that I have taught them," Cyndi says beaming with pride. "My students have done tremendous things in the industry and it is my pleasure to continue to pass down the nuggets of wisdom and skill that I've obtained from over 30 years in the entertainment business."

Cyndi's training began at age 8 where she studied classical piano for 6 years. By age 15, she and her brother released their first independent single which did reasonably well locally. By age 19, while studying music at Ohio University, she along with her brother won "Right On" magazine's nationwide talent search and were offered two major recording contracts. She decided to sign with Philadelphia International Records under the auspices of Grammy Award winning producer, Thom Bell (who was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame). She studied under Thom Bell and it was there that she learned the art of record production. She also studied vocal production under legendary Grammy Award winning producer, Hal Davis (Jackson five fame). Cyndi was taught proper vocal technique by vocal trainer to the stars, Seth Riggs and continued her private studies learning the vocal techniques of the great Alan Linquist. Her teaching style has subsequently morphed into a combination of all these great inspirational instructors.

As a teacher, Cyndi is kind, patient and extremely enthusiastic when it comes to instructing her students. Her students always see her as their friend and one who they know will bring out the best in them and desires that they grow to their fullest potential.

*** Lesson Details ***
When you come to Cyndi for voice lessons, you can rest assured that your vocals will never be the same. She is as comfortable teaching the beginner as she is instructing the seasoned professional who wants to hone their skills even further. She can always bring something out of you that you didn't know was there. Maybe it's the confidence that she exudes when she instructs, maybe it's her innate ability to know what's needed at any given time to make the student better. But whatever it is, you can rest assured that your lesson will be fun, thorough, and the lesson plan that she devises will cause you to arrive at the musical goals that you've set for yourself. She can help you or your child prepare for upcoming auditions, as well as any other scheduled performance. Cyndi will create a lesson plan that will certainly be tailor-made for your style and needs.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can bring my Cd player to play tracks etc....the student should have a recording device to record the lesson, whatever performance tracks we'd be working from, and a keyboard would be helpful but not necessary.

*** Specialties ***
My style of vocal training concentrates on singing in the 'Ng" position and using cuperto as the primary way to produce more tone with less effort. I also train my students to breath properly utilizing the lower lumbar area along with breathing from their diaphragm. I generally train vocal students in all genres of music and I stress stage presence in conjunction with proper vocal technique.

My first lesson with Cyndi was a complete giant step towards my goal. She explains things well and we hit it off right away. We got right to work on the good technique that I had never had. She pushed me to the limit and more, which is what I asked her to do.
Aside from doing the all-important breathing and scale work I learned the secret of an effective vibrato. She explained it in a very simple way. For me it was a revelation to think of it like this; an immediate breakthrough for me!
I was sent home with some breathing exercises and scale work as well as how to effectively sing the song I had brought along to work on with her.

Cyndi has a beautiful soul and is a very effective and positive teacher.

Thank's Cyndi! See you next week.

We will focus on fundamental concepts of recording including (but not limited to) mic placement techniques, sound manipulation, room manipulation, mixing, editing, processing, and mastering. It sounds boring, but it's not! I look forward to helping to learn more about how to produce quality music.

About Nicholas

*** General Bio ***
Hi, my name is Nick and I am born-and-raised in the pacific northwest! Initially from the Olympia, WA area, I relocated to Seattle in the fall of 2002, and have called Seattle home ever since. I received my education from the renown University of Washington School of Music with a Bachelor's in Music Performance (jazz studies). My career in music since moving to Seattle has provided me many extraordinary experiences both as a performer and an educator that I am quite thankful for.

I am perhaps most known in the northwest music/percussion community from my recent 7-year s
tint instructing and coordinating the University of Washington Husky Drumline. During my time with UW, I helped propel the UW drumline from regional to national prominence by consistently elevating the level of performance year-by-year while bolstering multiple social media platforms that led to greater recruiting outreach and subsequent response. I was also able to engage the group in similar publicity endeavors with our corporate sponsors such as Remo Drumheads, Pearl drums, and Vic Firth Drumsticks.

In the summer of 2013, I held the position of Percussion Caption Head for the World Class DCI Corps, The Seattle Cascades. We led the Cascades Drum & Bugle Corps to their highest percussion scoring in 6 years, and in any year since. Last but not least, I have also been involved with both the Seahawks Blue Thunder Drumline & Sounders Sound Wave spanning 4 seasons total.

Outside of marching percussion, I've spent significant time fine-tuning a wide array of musical genres behind the drumkit including Rock, Pop, Jazz, Big Band, Funk, Blues, R&B, Soul, Rock Opera, and Electronic, and I've even dabbled in Gospel, Folk, Roots, Country, Musical Theater, Classical, Metal, and Punk.

I currently tour with cinematic-electro-pop band HARPS (fb.com/thesoundofharps), and over the years have been lucky enough to be involved with Allen Stone, Megan Wilde, Tess Henley, Cracker Factory, and Discs of Fury along the way.

In addition, I've built a sizable following of drumming enthusiasts on YouTube gaining world-wide acclaim from a short series of note-for-note transcription performance videos. Perhaps most remarkable was a very accurate replication of a near 5-minute classic Aaron Spears solo from his performance at the 2006 Modern Drummer Festival Weekend of Usher’s hit “Caught Up”. Spears himself lauded the effort via Twitter within hours of the original upload.

I proudly endorse Pearl Drums, Remo Drumheads, and Vic Firth Drumsticks and mallets.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe that good teaching revolves around finding the right balance of three things: what the student wants, what the student needs, and what the student can handle.

As your teacher, I will do my very best in making you a more complete and well-rounded musician while helping guide you toward your goals. Whether you're just starting out, or an experienced pro wanting to brush up on a few new skills, I can help you. Over the past 13 years, I have successfully instructed folks from every age range and skill level, both in ensemble settings of various shapes and sizes, and one-on-one. I'd love to have the opportunity to help you, too!

I have a general core curriculum that I like to follow, but also understand when being overly regimented can take the fun out of the experience. I try my best to go at the student's pace while working to expose them to the necessary material that will ultimately allow them to achieve their goals.

My curriculum utilizes recordings, videos, demonstrations, transcriptions, books, play alongs, and the like. I focus a great deal on maintaining great posture with relaxed playing technique, as well as listening, reading, improvisation, and ear training.

Note for those with special needs: I have experience working with kids with the following conditions: Dyslexia, Partial Deafness, and Asperger Syndrome. In all cases, I was able to help each individual overcome these tremendous obstacles and become quite proficient performers within their ensembles. However, I do ask that any parents get in touch prior to booking lessons so that we may have a conversation about the details of each person's respective situation. That way, I believe I can make sure that I am the right person for the job as each situation is different and requires such special consideration.

Also: I do have experience teaching through a translator.

I have been working with Eric for over a year, and I would highly recommend him as a bass teacher. He has a good balance between fundamentals (scales, modes, fingering techniques) and learning songs. He brings songs from a variety of genres (some familiar to me and others not) but is always ready to work with me on a song that I find appealing.

Eric obviously enjoys music and wants his students to enjoys it. He knows that I learn best when I enjoy what I'm doing and am motivated to work by that enjoyment. If I struggle with one approach he will use a different one to get to the same end goal.

Eric pushes me to do more than just learn what others may have done, but to improvise and try to make my own parts. He is encouraging even when my fumbling efforts fall far short of my own expectations.

Eric helped me with guitar and Pro Tools. The lessons were very useful as I was recording demos which eventually turned into an EP. Eric helped me learn how I could add tracks to work I had already recorded in Chicago so we were able to work out some vocal harmonies and layers. The result was great. Once schedule allows I plan on resuming lessons if possible!
