I started playing clarinet in the school band at age six. My father was a musician, and he thought that playing in the school band would help me overcome my extreme shyness. I remember my first music lesson. I really liked my teacher. He came to my house, and he helped me to care for my clarinet and make some sounds on it. I thought playing the clarinet was wonderful. Once in awhile my mom would have to urge me to practice, but I was so drawn to playing the clarinet from the start that I would practice a lot on my own. I was the youngest member of the grade school band, but my music lessons helped me to keep up with the older kids. I had found a niche, and my niche helped me open up to other students in school and make friends. I participated in band programs through middle ...
Hello, I have been performing music since I was in the 4th grade when I started playing clarinet. In the 8th grade I started playing the oboe, and decided in my senior year to go to Ithaca College to become a music teacher, studying with Paige Morgan. While at Ithaca College, I had a private studio of 4 oboe players who were in middle school and high school. My oldest student was selected to be an oboe player at the NYSSMA All-State conference. I also toured around New York state playing in operas, as a solist, and in many broadway shows. Upon graduation I was hired by Teach for America and Denver Public Schools to be a music teacher k-8th grade. I taught music theory, band, orchestra and piano. I now play the flute, oboe, saxophone or clarinet for hire, and love to share ...
I can teach you how to read music, form the correct embouchure, breathe effectively, produce good tone, develop technique, and introduce you to some standard clarinet literature.
*** Travel Equipment *** I will provide a music stand, books when needed (i.e. supplementary or new material), and manuscript paper for writing out lessons. I expect students to provide chairs that support good posture, music books we have already worked on, a pencil, and their instrument (along with all necessary maintenance supplies; ie reeds, cleaning cloths, etc) *** Specialties *** I am a California and Colorado certified music teacher (B.M. in Music, M.A. in Teaching), currently teaching at East High School in Denver, Colorado. My specialties are woodwind instruments, guitar, and piano. Along with all of these, I will include theoretical elements that will make the music more meaningful. I am passionate about song-writing and theory, so I can also tutor you in these fields.
Because of my skills as a Elementary and Middle School Music I will be able to give you a quality experience in beginning to learn the Clarinet.
My name is Alan M. I have been the Denver music area for over 30 years. I have been playing professionally for all of that time playing Drumset to Timpani in many professional orchestras, Dance Bands and small Jazz and Rock Combos. I have also had the pleasure to perform some great Musicals and Operas over the years. My students have been selected for some very prestigious scholarships. I have also had my fair share of students win positions to the Denver School of the Arts. *** Lesson Details *** Private lessons are usually an half hour. During this time we will be working on fundamentals. Which is how to read and understand the music that is front of you. One of the most important goals that I impress on the student is learning how to be their own teacher for lifelong ...
I have recently graduated from University of Denver with a degree in music. I have played music almost my entire life in some form and have had tons of experience playing in all kinds of ensembles. My strength is helping people understand concepts in new ways. I make plenty of my own reeds and can teach that as well. I think that foundations of music are the most important and can teach all levels of musicianship. I am most experienced in orchestral playing, small ensemble, and solo playing as well. I have played principal most of my musical career and will continue to educate around music. *** Lesson Details *** I like to teach all kinds of lessons, but I really focus on the foundations of music as well as what the student wants to focus on as well. *** Studio Equipment *** I have ...
