Laura Z.

Brighton, MA

I have been teaching voice for 4 years. My approach to vocal technique emphasizes proper breath control, body alignment, and vocal placement in order to maximize the potential of each voice, regardless of age, level, or style. Lessons take a kinesthetic approach to these techniques, which allows the singer to "feel" how the body and voice need to be positioned for their most efficient sound. My varied vocal experience gives me the unique ability to help students effectively use the healthy singing techniques they learn in whatever genre of music they wish to pursue. As a result, my students have successfully auditioned for universities, recorded various projects, and performed lead roles in productions at the Kimmel Center, Media Theater, and Bristol Riverside Theatre.

About Laura

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students should be able to provide a piano/keyboard

*** Specialties ***
I have performed in a large variety of vocal genres from rock to opera and am comfortable teaching all ages, levels, and styles. In my lessons I focus on proper breath support, and vocal placement within the mouth and nasal cavity. As a result of my classical training, my basic style of teaching is steeped in the bel canto aesthetic. However, I believe in and use kinesthetic techniques to help students more easily discover this proper approach.

Alaina C.

Roslindale, MA

About Alaina

ABOUT ME

I began taking both voice and piano lessons at the age of 11, after years of sitting outside my older sisters' clarinet lessons and wishing to study music, myself. I fell in love with music at my very first lesson, and knew that it was what I would do with my life. I went on to attend New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, where I received my Bachelor of Music in vocal performance, and then onto Longy School of Music of Bard College, where I am currently working on my Masters in vocal performance and continuing piano as a secondary instrument. I am the co-owner of The Creativ
e Musician and have experience teaching piano students ranging from 4-year-old beginners to experienced adults and voice students ranging from novices to conservatory-bound high-school seniors. I am currently located in Roslindale, MA, and am available to teach both in my studio and in students' homes in the Roslindale/Jamaica Plain/West Roxbury area.

LESSON DETAILS

First and foremost, I always strive to make lessons engaging, enjoyable, and gently challenging. Mastering something that you find difficult is one of the most rewarding aspects of music lessons, and I believe that all students are capable of surpassing their own expectations and surprising themselves with their abilities. I try to create a welcoming and creative learning environment where students will feel comfortable exploring new techniques and ways of thinking about music.

Musical literacy and a healthy technique are vitally important for both pianists and singers in any genre, and I hope to impart this to my students while helping them to discover the joy of music and performance. I tailor lessons to help each individual student reach his/her goals, and welcome all ages and levels into my studio.

STUDIO

My home studio has a grand piano and a seating/waiting area for parents and siblings.

STUDENT MATERIALS

I will provide reference books and other teaching materials that will be used in lessons. I expect my students to have a piano (or full-sized keyboard with 88 weighted keys, an attached pedal, and a proper bench) for home practice and to reimburse me for books to be used at home.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello!

Thank you for your interest in piano, singing, or public speaking lessons. My philosophy is based on teaching 5 important things that performers must practice:
Singers/Speakers -- articulation, breathing/phrasing, rhythm, tone and a personal connection to the material.
Pianists -- technique, tone, rhythm, mechanics, and expression

I am a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and received my conservatory degree and additional training in New York City. I can prepare you to audition, perform, present, and have fun performing better at school, at work, at home and on stage

As I train to become a certified voice therapist, I am able to help singers and professional speakers improve the health and longevity of their voice. I can work with students who have asthma, nodes, hoarseness, English as a second language, stuttering, or those other language difficulties.

Schedule your lessons now. You always have the choice to determine if you've found the right teacher. Then, a weekly lesson time will be confirmed so that steady progress can be made.

Speaking, singing, performing, and music are for all! I look forward to sharing our voices and music together.

Let's get started!
Ms. Annie

Thank you Anne. I get the most from you that one should play piano with the body in a natural state. "Nature commended should be obeyed."

I think it is incredible that you keep learning new things!

Wish you all the best in the future.

Returning to fundamentals as an adult learner is very difficult and challenging but, at least in my case, very necessary. Annie has been a wonderful piano and voice teacher guiding me through this process - patient and kind, tolerant of my poor practice habits, and able to help me work on all aspects of my music. I would highly recommend her to any prospective student, and hope to continue working with her well into the future.

About Mia

I am a professional singer and actress with opera and musical theater credits. Singing is my passion! I love to sing, and I LOVE to teach others to sing! I like to make students feel comfortable and at ease in lessons, and you will find that I am very warm and friendly!

Every student is unique, with their own strengths, their own areas for improvement, and their own preference for certain styles of sing
ing. I can help you find what style makes your heart sing!

I have a broad range of credits, including the Broadway National Tour of Fiddler On The Roof with Theodore Bikel (Tzeitel understudy), and Off-Broadway in Fiorello (Marie) and The Rose Tattoo (Flora). My daughter's acting class with Mia was absolutely wonderful! She was very nervous going in because it was her first time trying out acting but she was immediately set at ease by Mia's warm and friendly personality. Mia also took the time to get to know my daughter and find out what her interests and goals were. Mia's enthusiasm for acting really inspired her and she is very excited about her upcoming classes.
