Frank V. La Habra, CA

Learning basic fundamentals, technique, using fingers and a pick. The role of a Bass player in a band, locking in with a drummer, learning connecting lines via arpeggios and scales.

About Frank

ABOUT MYSELF I started late on the guitar in a family of musicians. I picked up the guitar when I was 18 years old when I found an old acoustic at my grandfather’s house. From then I was self taught listening to Punk Rock, New Wave, and learning from friends. My love for the instrument and music drove me to really apply myself to really learning how to play. I would sit and just be creative, writing my own songs and putting little back yard bands together with my cousin and friends. Then, it was time for college and had to make a decision on what to study. Music was my passion and I never really taken a lesson before. I prepared myself by studying with Stephan Ferrara-Grand in San Clemente,CA for a short time to audition into the music program. I passed! I graduated with a Bachelor's ...

We purchased guitar lessons for our 9 year old nephew with a very short attention span. Frank has inspired interest and developed focus in him. He is learning and so proud of his progress. Frank is extremely friendly, talented and professional. Highly recommend him for either kids or adults.

Comfortable learning from Frank

Frank has a wonderful personality. I am so much at ease learning from Frank. His style of teaching tips and techniques has made it so much easier for learning rather than having a child playing away and not know the base of an instrument. His patience and understanding is amazing. He is very easy to communicate with and not forgetting how in tuned he is with his student that he picks up things that even I do not know I am doing wrong. Thanks for that. I know for sure I will not be changing to another music teacher.

I've been a music teacher for twelve years, and make a living as a professional Bass player- even took piano classes when I got my music degree. Nathan in Downey CA was completely awesome during our piano lessons. I had this ridiculous assumption that I had to always start chromatic and major diatonic scales on piano always on my first finger of either hand- which is apparently not at all actually necessary. Crazy, because that was the biggest blockade to me playing piano for the last 8 years and Nathan blew that ridiculous concept out of my mind. The smallest things that I get in the habit of and somehow that one thing got stuck in my head as the only way to do things. I feel bad for not signing up for lessons, like... 10 years ago. I practiced my scales for about two hours, and they're possibly the most boring thing to play- even for a musician. I feel like they've got some new life breathed into them.
Definitely get a lesson or two with Nathan on that expensive piano you've got sitting around. it's good to note that he explained everything really clearly and the web connection and clarity was great. I could see him being awesome for a young bass guitar student too, as he mentioned he also plays bass.

Nathan had a very helpful suggestion for switching from chord G to chord C which I was having trouble with. He is an excellent teacher and I highly recommend him.

Kipp K. Long Beach, CA

I focus on teaching my students to be able to play well in band situations. We work on playing technique, the ability to hear a bass line and duplicate it, the ability to read and play from music charts, and the ability to groove with a drummer and the rest of the ensemble.

About Kipp

I fell in love with the guitar when I was ten years old, and it’s been one of the most satisfying, long-lasting and healthiest romantic relationships of my entire life. I am still in love. When I began to play AND sing, the magic multiplied. Through performing solo and with bands, I discovered that other people also enjoyed the magic that was being channeled through me musically. Then I found that I could teach. This was a surprise to me. I found that I am the kind of person who can explain concepts and demonstrate technique in a way that makes the new information fun for a student. My students enjoy learning, and I enjoy the fact that they are enjoying it. It is SO MUCH FUN for me to see a student’s face light up because something suddenly makes sense to them, and they GET IT. In just a short amount of time I learned a lot from chords to technique from Kipp. She is an awesome guitar teacher with experience to back her up. I started learning guitar relatively late in life -in my late twenties- but I am confident Kipp can teach any age group.

Classic Guitar Lesson for 7 year old

Signed my 7 year old nephew up for 30 min weekly lessons to learn the classic guitar. Kipp did a great job making him feel comfortable and he is improving each week. She has a great skill for communicating with children and making them understand the importance of what they are learning while making it fun. I will definitely continue classes with Kipp.

I am very impressed with Glenn's teaching abilities. I am a retired, previous guitar player who put down the guitar in the early 80s and decided to try to get back some of the skills that I still remember. Glenn is doing that and more. Teaching me new styles and the foundations behind them.

My son is 7 years of age and has never received any music lessons. I bought him a guitar for his birthday and he was just happy to play with it without any guitar lessons. I convinced him otherwise. I did not know what to expect from Glenn. I knew about him because he was highly recommended in our Long Beach neighborhood. I signed my son up and after a few minutes of being with Glenn, my son was hooked. He came away from his first 30 minute session saying, “wow…I did not know I could play the guitar!”. My son was so excited. As a parent…that is very exciting! I was sold! I was amazed how he was able to pick up what Glenn taught him within that first lesson. Glenn made it fun. The atmosphere was very relaxed and his style of teaching clicked with my son right away. After basically 12 sessions, my son was able to perform at a musical recital Glenn hosted for his students. Not only was I proud of my son, I also got to see kids of all ages and adults performing that day and it was pretty impressive. Overall, I highly recommend Glenn. He is able to keep my 7 year old boy focused and teaches him effectively while making it fun!

Last year, I had the opportunity to study with Christian at CSU Northridge. Christian is one of the finest musicians I have come across in the years that I have been playing music. Not only does he have impressive skills with the guitar, he also has knowledge in the history of the guitar and music theory. When he was studying at CSUN, I was able to have some lessons with Christian on a baroque piece that was giving me trouble. First, I'd like to mention how patient he was with me when I was frustrated and lost in the music. Also, I was surprised at how much he knew about the music as he explained what was going on in the piece and why. Oh... did I mention that I had some AWESOME results after ONE lesson??? Do yourself the favor and check this guy out!

Christian has been teaching our two sons (Age 11 and 8) for the summer and has performed wonderfully as both instructor and motivator. His demeanor is excellent with the kids. And I greatly appreciate that he is teaching them music reading, music appreciation and music theory -- not just how to play the guitar. More importantly, the kids are having a great time.

Rodrigo is the best teacher! He has a keen understandings of main concepts of music and showed me the proper postures and fingerings of the instrument. While he was teaching me how to play the instrument, he also introduced me a various genres and styles of music. He is very knowledgeable of music theory such as chord transpositions, terminology, as well as the musical notations. He also was willing to modify the lessons to meet my needs and abilities so that I can be successful. He truly is a multi-talented teacher and very very nice one, too. Most of all, it was so fun to take lessons from him.

I've only had three lessons with Rodrigo but so far all of them have exceeded my expectations of a music instructor. Rodrigo is a great guy and accordionist. I like how I'm learning music theory along with my instrument because it will help me if I decide to learn more instruments. Thanks Rodrigo!
