I can teach all levels of saxophone and can work with students on classical and/or jazz music. Saxophone is my primary instrument and I have been playing for 13 years.
I have played saxophone since I was in 5th grade. I have been in a variety of groups over the years; rock, funk, punk, jazz quartets and big-band jazz, and the experimental use of electronics. You will learn proper breath (dynamics) and embouchure control, tonguing techniques, standard and alternate fingerings, approaches to improvisation and assistance with a varied repertoire for performance. I own a 1967 Beuscher alto saxophone and an Elkhart C-tenor saxophone. My home studio has recording capability which I use to record lessons when they are needed for review. Ear training is a crucial part to music on any level, and I encourage playing by ear as an important element to improvisation and music appreciation. My lessons are fun, informative, and creative!
I've been teaching saxophone for about 7 years and love the instrument! Went to school to study it, so it's definitely a part of who I am. Things to expect in lessons includes, review of basic fundamental skills, technical work, intonation work, classical saxophone repertoire study, jazz study, aural skills studies, overtone training, connecting the instrument to life. Also, FUN! I am here to help you learn in addition to having a fun and enjoyable time!
From the basics to the most beautiful jazz arrangements, I can help you succeed!
I teach students from 5 years old and up. For my beginner students I teach Music theory and technique. I am VERY good with my young students and older students catch on very quick. I specialize in jazz studies when it come to intermediate trained students. I've also studied for a year at Wayne State University on a scholarship in jazz studies. I have been playing piano and saxophone for over 12 years.
