I have been playing drums for over 6 years and experienced in several genres including Gospel, Jazz, R&B, Hip-hop, Reggae, Soul, Oldschool, and more. In my lessons, I will begin by teaching the basics of reading music, and how to apply reading concepts onto the drum set. In later lessons, I will demonstrate rudimentary concepts, and introduce students to different genres of music, ensuring that they become versatile and balanced players.
As a student at Valley Forge Christian College, Malik has participated in the Wind Ensemble as well as student led “The Art Of” music group. While in college Malik returned to Central as a student instrumentalist mentor where he demonstrated concepts in Jazz to young instrumentalists, enhanced overall understanding on drums to students, assisted in developing technique, and how to read music. He has also participated in Central High School productions of three musicals including “Annie Get Your Gun,” “West Side Story,” and “Hairspray,” where he was a member of the pit orchestra.
In fall 2013, Malik transferred to Temple University as a Entrepreneurship major with the goal to start his own entertainment company promoting positive arts. Malik believes today’s artists and entertainers play an important role in in the health of communities and society in general. He believes Artists have the opportunity to reach people in a way no other form of media can, and must take responsibility for the content that they put out. The great deal of negativity in today’s entertainment industry is the driving factor to Malik’s Hard work.
Upon completing only one year at Temple University, Malik moved to Tampa, FL in February of 2014 to expand his connections and grow his business. While in Tampa, he has worked with several artists, including Indie groups Legacy West and House of Woodbury. With Legacy West, he played the role of the drummer and producer, and was able to take the group’s music to the next level of production and played on the recording of their single “Take It or Leave It,” which won the Akademia award for best song in November 2008.
Today, Malik currently resides in his hometown, where he works at The Soundlounj, a rehearsal venue in the East Oak Lane section of Philadelphia, and House on the Hill Recording Studio located in Belthlehem PA. He is also working on several projects, which includes the band that he has formed, NewERA, and several NewERA artists.

I take pride in covering material that many fellow instructors skip. I'm not just saying that, I've truly been surprised and oftentimes bothered by what some teachers start with and focus on.
-I focus on proper grip technique and spend as much time as needed making sure this is correct.
-I take time explaining the basics of rhythm, meaning how the rhythms fit together and interact.
-I encourage using a metronome but also require my students to improvise.
