About this class

Students will learn the vocal qualities and techniques associated with Motown/50s-60s vocal styles. We will explore speech-like sound, slides, use of rasp, falsetto, and vibrato among other staples of the genre. Students should prepare a full length or portion of a Motown/50s-early 60s song to get coaching on style, technique, and dramatic execution. The class will explore the origins and development of the genre in the context of contemporary music performance and in music theatre. Artists such as Elvis Presley, Diana Ross, The Beatles, and more will be discussed. Students will be guided to prepare their own audition cuts using appropriate Motown songs and to find an individualized spin on the song.

About Louise G.

Hello! My name is Louise, and I have a vast amount of teaching experience in diverse subjects. I am primarily, a performer and voice teacher. My bachelor's degree is in vocal performance; I have over 2 decades of experience singing vocal solos, choral music, performing musical theatre roles, and competing in auditions and contests. I have over ten years experience teaching private voice lessons and directing church choral programs. I love to sing and help others meet their performance and audition goals!

I also have almost 10 years experience as an educator in public schools. I hold a master's degree in special education, and worked in classrooms with students with intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, and behavioral disorders. This experience gives me an edge that allows me to modify and personalize each lesson based on student demeanor and ability.

I am also an online English teacher (native speaker). I hope to make learning English fun and practical based on your goals and purposes for learning. I use a combination of methods including music-based activities.
