Spanish teacher with 10 years experience teaching and tutoring Spanish. Geographic area is Mexico. The goal is for students to be able to actively use the language and not be afraid to experiment. The focus is on meaningful conversation and reading authentic texts. Classes are creative, fun and held to 95% in the target language.

About Annika
My first tutoring experience took place in first grade when I was asked to assist a newly arrived Vietnamese girl with her English. I myself had learned English when I first came to the United States at three years of age and could relate well to some of the issues the newcomer was facing.

A true global nomad, I have lived in Germany, the U.S., Mexico and Russia and have traveled extensively. Starting with English and German, and eventually Spanish, French and Russian, I have been instructing students since 1989 in various countries of a variety of ages in a multitude of informal and formal settings.

In 1990, I received my Bachelor of Arts in Russian Studies from George Mason University. In 1995, I completed my Masters Degree in Secondary Education/Teaching English as a Second Language. After one year of working in a public school
setting, I began teaching privately and on a freelance basis for a number of private companies and language schools, and the government.

Great first lesson. Kathleen contacted me in advance to find out what I’d like to work on and she was prepared with several options tonight. Her helpful tips on folding and diagram reading were just what I was looking for. We agreed on the next piece and I’m already looking forward to our next lesson. Thank you!

I was looking for a boost to my new hobby with origami, and have had two lessons so far with Kathleen. I couldn't be happier with the lesson experience; her approach is detailed, clear, easy to follow along with and relaxed. She was even folding upside down from her point of view so that I could see from across the table. I was really impressed. There's nothing like learning from a real person. Definitely looking forward to more lessons in the future.

Hello there! I started out like many of you, taking a few Spanish classes in High School, continuing onto college to get a minor in Spanish. But that didn't do it for me! so, I went to Peru, and lived there for two years. I learned very quickly if you want to eat, you have to learn to speak Spanish. And that is as fluent as you get!

About Conner
Hello future students! I am 24 years of age, and a fluent Spanish speaker. having lived in Peru for two years I adapted the Spanish language almost as if I was a native. Not only did I learn the language but I learned the grammar, the rules and lots of tricks along the way. Now most native Spanish speakers do not know how to teach or explain these thing, because they never had to learn it as a second language. Spanish is a very simple language to learn, if taught properly.

I am a native Spanish speaker with the goal of making learning spanish easy and fun! I am more adamant on reading and pronunciation for begginers, as well as building confidence while speaking a foreign language. I am good with grammar and can help more advanced students check essays and increase vocabulary! My goal is that you fall in love with Spanish. I am also a firm believer that a lot of help comes from outside studying time, so I look forward to hearing and answering your questions even outside tutoring time.

About Nikita
Hi! My name is Nikita and I am currently a college student. I grew up in Mexico and have taken teaching courses over highschool, as well as having been a teaching assistant for several schooling grades, from elementary school to high school. I also got the opportunity to attend a United World College and gained a lot of international experience, as well as being cuturally inmersed in the many different cultures my peers represented. I love to learn new things as well, and feel that learning involves both the student and the teacher.

While in Mexico I did my best to excel and gain experience towards teaching and helping others. I have won several student writing contests, as well as academic recognitions. During high school I attended a charter school that gave me opportunity to grow and volunteer. Besides being a teaching assistant to
a middle school for my school's volunteering program, I was a teaching assistant to a high school literature teacher, the student leader to a Creative Writing club, and one of the head organizers for our school's cultural inmersion week, that celebrated literature and arts, such as film, design, music, etc.

As well, I attended the United World College in China for two years. It was an inmersive experience that helped me grow both as a person and as a student. While living in China I was inmersed not only in its vast culture, but was also exposed to many other cultures from the 100+ countries represented by the other students attending my school. I gained a lot of international experience and became even more empathic and understing because of that. I also took some experience from tutoring my peers and doing self-taught literature in China, learning that studying another language can be hard but fun and engaging!

I currently attend Colorado College and am looking to major in International Political Economy, with a minor in Education. My goal after I graduate is becoming an advocate for children's education rights internationally. I am also looking to obtain a special education certification after that. At college, I am involved with several clubs and activities, but the ones I am focusing on are my intramural soccer team, Latinx alliance, and Catholic Students Group.
