Attend to listen to up-and-coming artists in the Latin music scene, sing along to your favorite rock, hip-hop, funk, alternative, electronic, cumbia, salsa, tejano, and mariachi songs, and enjoy a variety of Latino foods, culture, and art.

Cine Las Americas http://cinelasamericas.org/home This five-day film festival held every April gives you the chance to watch close to 100 movies from different Spanish-speaking countries - including the United States. Make sure to check out the events happening at both Café Este and Galleria for evenings of music, dancing, and special meals.

Other Activities

Esquina Tango http://www.esquinatangoaustin.com/ A great way to continue learning outside of your Spanish lessons in Austin is to take dance classes. At Esquina Tango, you can learn salsa, samba, kizomba, milonga, salsa aerobics, and, of course, tango. If you are looking to meet other Spanish speakers, this is the place to go. The school also holds regular social events to give students the chance to make friends and practice their Spanish conversation skills.

Mexic-Arte Museum http://www.mexic-artemuseum.org/ A different way to experience Latino culture is to take a trip to the Mexic-Arte Museum. The temporary exhibitions and permanent collections are an ideal way to better understand Mexican and Latino history or simply find the inspiration you need to keep up with your Spanish lessons.

About Mariella
Buenos dias a todos!
I am a native Spanish Tutor with a degree in the field of Education and certified by the State of Georgia in the fields of Early Childhood Education and Spanish. I have years of experience teaching my own language to adults, middle and high schoolers (individuals and small groups) as well as teaching Spanish to children from Pre-Kindergarten to Middle School in private schools. I am currently tutoring adults, middle school, high school, and college students.
Sometimes learning a foreign language can be overwhelming and frustrating, which is why I focus my lessons on UNDERSTANDING and SPEAKING Spanish from the very first class. My method is fun and you will learn real-life Spanish.
I have traveled a lot in Latin America , and have visited different Spanish-speaking countries. Thus, I am familiar with the regional dif
ferences of the language. I'm a very reliable person and nothing makes me happier than seeing my students make progress. My rates are competitive based on my experience. References available upon request.

Please e-mail me if interested to let me know your needs and schedule.

She's a great teacher. Very pleasant and very good sense of humor. She knows I am very busy at work and her teaching methods are catered to my needs. She continues to review the basics and makes sure I comprehend the vocabulary before we proceed. I highly recommend her.

I have spent four years studying Spanish in academic settings and have traveled extensively to Latin America, learning Spanish on the way. I have a wide vocabulary and a thorough understanding of grammar.

About Michael
I am a classically trained and professional musician who has worn many different musical hats over the years. I began playing drums when I was 14, in Houston, TX with Craig LeMay, and since then I have learned many different string and world instruments. I studied music theory and vocal performance at the Florence University of the Arts in Italy, taken sitar lessons from Mita Nag in Kolkatta, India, and jazz performance in Austin, TX with Joey Colarusso. I have played in many different bands over the years, such as accompanying Michael Kiwanuka with the musical saw, accompanying Katie Sachs with the musical saw, playing bass guitar with Halaska and DJing private events with Spacecraft Entertainment. I have been teaching music to special education students, in Austin public schools, and foster children with Kids in a New Groove. I have als
o built and modified many of my own instruments and ready to teach you some quirky musical production skills as well. I believe listening and being adaptable to an individual student's needs are the keys to teaching anyone to express themselves through music.

After studying Spanish for 2 years at the university level and extensive travel to Latin America I am fluent in Spanish in both the academic and conversational sides of the language.

Michael is doing a great job getting me started on my piano journey. The exercises and drills he is teaching me have helped me feel comfortable at the keyboard. I've even learned a song already, after just 2 lessons!

Highly recommended.

My 8 year old daughter took piano lessons from Michael and she really enjoyed learning the basics in fun ways. He was VERY patient and able to meet her where she was at, but still knew how to challenge her. I would recommend Michael to any beginner level piano player!

Really good teacher. I had never played piano before and Michael was great at instantly giving me things to work on and gave off the impression that lessons were tailored to what I was interested in and the direction I personally wanted to go with the piano. I'd definitely recommend him to anyone else looking for a good instructor in piano or any other musical instrument he works with.

Spanish is not my native language, so I can relate to the mixed bag of emotions that come with learning a new language: self-consciousness, excitement, awkwardness (because of those pesky false cognates!) Along the way, I picked up some great strategies for understanding Spanish that I'd enjoy sharing with others.

Just recently, I attended a workshop on language teaching through storytelling, also known as TPRS. It's a useful and unique exercise beneficial to language-learners of all levels.

I look forward to helping you feel more confident for class, pass your Spanish test, or even help you learn the language for work.
