In middle school, I began taking French instead of Spanish because I wanted to be different. By the time I reached college, I knew I wanted to be proficient in at least one foreign language - so I ended up majoring in it, and spending two years in Paris during graduate school. Languages are fun, and I hope to help my students discover this, too! Look out also for my blog articles in French on the TakeLessons blog.

About Beth
I earned my BA in French with a minor in math from Pomona College, followed by my Masters in French Language Education from the Sorbonne University in Paris. I have six years of experience teaching English and English as a foreign language to middle and high school students.

I have taught private violin and viola lessons since the beginning of 2012. As a member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas, I have completed their violin pedagogy courses for Suzuki books one through four. I have played in various local orchestras since high school, including the San Diego Youth Symphony, the Pomona College Orchestra, the San Francisco Civic Symphony, San Francisco Civic Strings, the West Sacramento Community Orchestra, and the Rancho Cordova Civic Light Orchestra. I also play handbells, and currently play with RiverBells Sacramento.

Mrs. Jen has been a violin teacher for our daughter for 3.5 years. She is an extremely qualified and talented musician who deeply cares about her students and is committed to teaching. She is kind and patient, but also effective and motivating. When our 8 year old daughter learned Mrs. Jen was moving she said, "I probably will never have as neat or special of a violin teacher as Mrs. Jen"- and she's right!

First lesson was fine. We took a few minutes to find each other in a cafe setting but as it was also a meet and greet session I wasn't too concerned about time. As it turns out Beth more than made up the time. She's very pleasant and easy to speak with. We went over my goals, simple traveler type words, phrases and questions, and a work schedule to cover the next several weeks. Beth told me how she was going to approach teaching me after listening to my goals. I'm looking forward to the next session where we can focus on learning the language.

French is my second language, but often feels as it if were the first, as I have speaking it for so many years on an everyday and professional basis. My grammar is excellent, as I learned the rules in junior high school in the Paris suburbs (grammar is an important part of French schooling). I edited a 240-page scholarly book, De La Case A La Villa (published 2014), and I gave private lessons.

About Diane
Bonjour! Hello!
I have been teaching on and off for many years, usually on a one-to-one basis; I taught teenagers and adults. I tailor my lessons to each student's individual needs and I am always ready to go above and beyond the basic lesson. I try to make learning a language fun and alive, through news, stories, and songs.
My graduate educational background is in architecture, followed by an MBA in finance. My mother tongue is English; but I learned French at the age of nine when I attended my first French school. I have a French high school diploma (Baccalauréat) and architecture degree.
I also attended high school in Germany, in a German high school, for several years. Learning languages was a necessity in my childhood, and I love learning, even if by now it is more difficult to become fluent in a new language. I think the fact
of being a lifelong learner helps me better understand my students' needs.
As an avid reader since childhood, my spelling has always been excellent, and I worked as a proofreader. I look forward to helping my students reach their language goals.

I have a PhD in French from Princeton University and six years of teaching experience. I use a variety of methods and exercises to keep lessons fun and new. I have taught beginners, advanced students, and accelerated classes. Regardless of the level, my students make fast progress in speaking, writing, and comprehension. I am proud of the number of students who have told me they fell in love with French in my class. I have also worked extensively with a French-language theater troupe and can help students improve their pronunciation and confidence when speaking in a second language.

About Macs
I am a professor in French with a PhD from Princeton University and a bachelors from the College of William and Mary. I've taught all levels of French at Princeton over the past six years. As a researcher I'm an expert on Paris, street art, and parkour. I can tell you anything you want to know about French architecture. While I don't actually do graffiti or parkour, I do participate in a lot of theater and have acted in and directed plays in French and English. I've traveled all over the world to study French theater, even to Tokyo, and I have come to the conclusion that everyone would benefit from watching theater in languages they don't understand.

Macs was the best language teacher I've ever had. Not only does he epitomize professionalism, but he finds a way to connect with each of his students on a personal level and get the best out of them. I've watched Macs teach students of all levels, and all of us found him engaging, energetic, and deeply knowledgable. Macs' vast repertoire of pedagogic techniques, games, and other ways to invigorate his lesson plans made sure that every lesson was new, fun, and interesting, while managing to actually articulate important information as well. I could go on and on... In a group or one-on-one setting, I can't recommend Macs enough.

I cannot recommend Macs highly enough! I was lacking so much confidence before I started lessons with him, and he has helped me grow so much. I now feel confident in all areas of French, especially speaking, and he has managed to give me a strong grasp of grammar along the way! I never felt like I had to work hard, everything was so natural and he put me so much at ease that it felt like just a normal conversation with a friend, but I learnt so much grammar along the way! His explanations are always super clear and he really knows his stuff, but it never feels boring. He has loads of exciting and different ways of teaching, from theatre exercises to watching YouTube clips, but also manages to make sure you reach your goals and learn everything on your syllabus. Really really friendly and helpful teacher and such a kind guy, I would absolutely recommend Macs!!

Macs was my french teacher for one semester here at Princeton, and I can say without a doubt that he was the best professor I've had here so far!! First of all, I learned an incredible amount of french under his tutelage. Prior to taking Macs' class, I had taken french for a number of years in high school, as well as one semester in college, but I never really came close to conversational proficiency. One semester with Macs helped me progress to that level and more; I was even able to read a novel entirely in French by the end of the class. Secondly, Macs is just a genuine person who truly cares about his students. He met with me one on one several times, both to help me with French as well as to talk about life. Overall, you could not ask for a better instructor!!

I design my French lessons to be fun and interactive with innovative teaching techniques. I use games, debates, brainstorm and subjects students like.
I believe that repetition is key in order to learn better and pronounce correctly.

About Aurore
Hi!

I am a young professional woring as a regional sales manager. I graduated in international business in France. Alongside my studies, I've always been passionate about learning new languages : I speak four. It gave me the ability to try different unique techniques.

My classes are fun and interactive. I teach students in a relaxed way that make them want to learn without being stressed out. I teach students to gain confidence when speaking French.

I taught French as a tutor while I was at university to students from 12 to 30. Before that, I worked as an au pair in Croatia and taught French by emplementing games, drawings to children. Last year, I took a gap year to teach French at university in Taiwan. I was teaching French speaking classes to undergraduate and graduate students. I assisted professors in grammar and civilization cla
sses.

I use various teaching techniques such as interaction, reverse classroom, debates, and repetition.
I love to mentor students who want to become fluent, or who would like to begin learning French.

I look forward to meeting you and helping you learning the world's most beautiful language!
