I first started learning French when I was in high school and was amazed at how many similarities it shared with Spanish (which both descend from Latin) which helped me to pick up things a lot faster. I have since lived in the "French House" (at the Foreign Language Student Residence, part of on-campus housing at BYU) for two semesters where residents are required to speak their target language while in their respective apartments. I also took a third-year advanced grammar French class while at college while living in the French House. French is just an awesome language to learn!

I'm delighted to have found Elsa! She is energetic and charming. She is a gifted teacher. Both my granddaughter and I take lessons with her - although not at the same time. I teach French since 1973. I am a French native speaker and I do teach and tutor privately. I did teach in schools since November 2016-July 2017 at the Fort Bend Christian Academy. My students were 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th graders. My teaching experience started teaching my students about Le Petit Prince. This marvelous story caught on very fast the imagination and desire to learn French in all my students. Never failed! I teach students to speak French and not to just read from a book.
I have always been a member of the Alliance Francaise in Curacao and I did study methodology on how to teach French as second language at the French island of Guadeloupe, at L'Ecole Normale, at Pointe-a-Pitre, in 1975, sent by the Alliance Francaise of Curacao.

About Robert

My name is Robert M. I have a Spanish Teaching Degree from Curacao, a beautiful island that once was part of The Netherlands and I started teaching in 1973. So far I have been teaching Spanish for 12 years. I also have an Associate Degree in Applied Arts in Advertising Design from the Art Institute

Alliance Française de Portland Finding places to speak French in the Pacific Northwest can be a challenge, as there are not that many native speakers so far from Europe. However, the Alliance Française de Portland is the perfect solution to helping you find other French-speaking enthusiasts who can help you outside of your French lessons in Portland! Groups are divided into their location in the city, such as northeast, central, or southwest. Most locations have a couple of different groups, so if you are still a beginner, you won’t feel out of place with people who are nearly fluent. There is no charge to participate, and you can stop by without planning ahead. (http://www.afportland.org/resources/french-conversation-groups-in-portland/)

Portland Language Exchange One of the best ways to really learn a language is to talk with someone who is a native speaker. The Language Exchange lets you find native French speakers who are looking to improve their English. This unique page also lets you find people who are not native speakers, but who want to practice, as well. If you feel shy in larger groups, this can help you stay in your comfort zone while you work on the basics. (http://www.mylanguageexchange.com/city/Portland__United_States.asp)

Learning a language can be difficult, but the best and most fun way to practice between your French lessons in Portland is to get out and use what you have learned! The more often you participate, the faster you will learn.

Here in the states, we celebrate Mother's Day on the second Sunday in May (psst that's May 10 this year!), but did you know that in France Mother's Day, known as la fête des mères, is celebrated either the last Sunday of May or the first Sunday in June? Despite the difference in timing, the French celebrate Mother's Day in many of the same ways we do, but with a few uniquely French touches. First things first, if you want to celebrate this holiday as the French do, you'll need to know a bi …
