Bonjour a tous!

Dear French Students,

A native French speaker, I have been tutoring students of all levels since 2008. I was the main French and German Instructor at the San Jose Learning Center in the Silicon Valley before moving to New York.

The core of my lessons are drawn from a language book, which allows the student to work at his or her own pace during the week.

The lessons themselves are then spent reviewing previous work, as well as introducing new material in a variety of ways, all the while engaging in various forms of dialogues depending on your level.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

I hope to hear from you, meet you, and work with you!

Sincerely,
Gabrielle

About Gabrielle
A violinist is a musical knight: the round shield which once protected the heart has become a sound-resonating violin, the linear sword a bow, yet the fundamental gestures are the same. The active right directs according to linear rules, the left spirals inwards.

Dear Student,

My name is Gabrielle A. I am French, in my mid-twenties, and hold a MA in education. Simple, to the point, confident, smiling and fun, I engage quickly and well with those around me.

While teaching a standard violin apprenticeship curriculum, I approach the instrument from the perspective of movement: what qualitative gesture is at play behind a particular stroke or fingering?

Imagine playing violin according to lines of force, directions and qualities of movement between the right and the left! Musical sound, and its higher sibling tone, are born from
the qualitative interplay between right and left meeting in the human chest.
By inwardly experiencing the instrument as a threefold instrument (violin, bow and violinist) we can step away from the view that the violin is 'somewhere out there', a foreign object to be more or less painfully mastered.

I believe that as instrumentalists we ourselves are a part of the tone we produce.
I will therefore look with you at the kinesiology behind a correct posture and encourage you to experience the playing process as a circle between the violin, the bow and the violinist.

I hope to hear from you, meet you, and work with you!

Yours sincerely,
Gabrielle

Gabrielle is great at teaching my 9 year old french. She makes his lessons fun and keeps him engaged so that he always looks forward to his lessons. She does a great job engaging with the interests of her students, instead of sticking to a rigid lesson plan and losing the student. For example, quietly inserting verb conjugation and tense training into the telling of a story her student is determined to share with her. She really works with the kid's interests and gets their buy-in and engagement.

Parlez-vous français? French was the first foreign language I learned, and it was definitely a gateway language. I loved learning every detail of the grammar, every rule, every inevitable exception. I took advanced courses at UCI as well as studied in a French university for a semester, so I have lots of materials for us to work with.

About Michelle
Hi! I'm Michelle, a world traveler/teacher who's here to help bring her experience and energy to students back home in California. I've taught various subjects such as test prep, English, history, and languages to students all over the world, such as China, France, and Ecuador. I've worked with students of all ages and love getting to know them to help figure out how they best learn.

I love learning languages in my spare time and practicing when I can. When I'm not looking a bit silly doing that, I'm usually reading, at a baseball game, or hanging out with friends. I keep active, making sure to run or play a sport when I can. However, it's equally as strong as my love for foods of all kinds.

I really look forward to getting to work with you and helping you with whatever I can!

I have a Master's degree from California State University Fullerton. I'm originally from Nice, South of France and arrived in California in Fall 2010.
I have taught French to foreigner people in France since I was 18 years old (my mother has been doing that for over 30 years now) and since I arrived here to adults and students.

Through private lessons I can help you get ready for exams and midterms, help you improve your french or just offer you to have a conversation with a native speaker. I love my culture and would love to share it with you if you are interested.

About Claire
Hello, my name is Claire :) I am French and arrived in the US in August 2010 to study music. I am just starting my Doctorate in Music on a full scholarship at the University of Miami after earning a Master in Music Performance from California State University Fullerton on a full scholarship as well. I am currently playing in a professional clarinet quartet and I am studying with the principal clarinetist of the LA Phil until I go to Miami. My ultimate goal is to play clarinet and teach music at the University level.

I have the experience of teaching private clarinet lessons in France since 2006 and in America since 2010 and am seeking clarinet students of every level and age. I can help you prepare for high school band/university admission auditions or any other type of performances.

I have also studied piano for a few years and hav
e the experience of teaching private piano lessons in France and America.

Finally as I am from France, I was a French tutor at my University for 6 years and can help you learn French, get ready for exams and midterms or just do conversation if you are more advanced.

Claire is an excellent instructor. she makes you feel at ease. she was punctual and very friendly. She has a French accent and is French born. I cannot insist enough how important it is to learn from a teacher who's native language is whatever that your are trying to learn. obviously with me having no background in French it is a learning curve but honestly I felt that after the first 45 mins I was enjoying mind it not because of anything else but the teacher's excellent, easy going manner and her enthusiasm for teaching. she is encouraging without being pushy but we also had material covered so no wasting time here. answered all of my questions and began with a great game plan. thank you Claire with God's grace and permission I hope you succeed in all that you do.

I studied French for 3 years, and use it at an intermediate level. I would feel very comfortable teaching beginning students to the French language!

About Jean
Hello!

I'm a university student who is currently studying music performance. I am interested in taking on a few students this summer. My specialty is brass performance (tuba, euphonium, trombone, etc), however, I can also teach basic music concepts such as reading music, and basic piano skills. Whether it is learning to actually perform and play on an instrument, or whether it is simply being able to audiate and then tap out a tune on a piano, I can teach these skills! I am very passionate about bringing basic musicianship to all kinds of people; all people should be able to recognize (or reproduce) the skills it takes to do any type of music. My teaching philosophy is very largely about music appreciation and music application. One will learn to appreciate old types of music and new types of music (like pop), and one will learn to app
ly their skills to the type of music that best interests them!

I also teach Spanish and French in addition; I have 3 years of French experience and 6 years of French experience; I would love to take on some beginner students!

With regards to these lessons, prices are entirely negotiable. Simply send an email and we can discuss.
I am willing to travel!

Lessons will be customized according to the student goal. Not only you will be practicing your French with me, you will also be advised on how to build your self-learning. We will work mostly on how to figure out the BEST way to learn the language quickly and efficiently.

About Mo
If one were to ask my friends to describe me, they would describe me as a driven, passionate and inquisitive person. I think one of my most distinguishing characteristics is the diversity of experience that I have had.

I'm currently living in Pittsburgh as a grad student at The Carnegie Mellon University under the Computer Science Departement. I lived in France (Paris) for 3 years where I graduated with an MBA in Marketing from the Ecole Superieure de Gestion. I moved to San Francisco 2 years ago seeking better opportunities in the field of technology, a field that I'm passionate about since my childhood.

I had been offered a part-time job as a college student tutor at The City College of San Francisco. As a French tutor, I had to take proactive approaches to adapt to different teaching styles and play a leadership role in motivating
students in their learning process.
